on the Knicks. We are the official pisspot for other team max player failures, so nothing in any terms will surprise me.

If Isiah takes on that contract without giving up worse contracts in return (including the number of years remaining), he is dumber than Layden.

Briggs! You know why I would trade for Dampier, it is simply because we would have a chance to rid ourselves of perhaps 2 of our PFs...Kurt and Malik or Kurt and Sweetney...Really, I don't care. With such a trade, I wouldn't mind drafting a guy shorter than 6'10 to play PF, as long as he is a gifted athletic type. Dampier is not the answer, but with him in the frpnt court, we would be better than with Kurt.....Mo T. or Tim Thomas can play the PF position....Whatever Dampier can't give us, we can get it from others...

Dallas would obviously want our 8th pick. I think this would be a horrible move. IF we were closer, Dampier could be the pressence that we lack, but we aren't close enough to the playoffs, let alone contending where Damps would make a difference.

I wouldn't do it if they want the 8th pick...Trust me, Isiah will not trade the 8th pick...the only way he would do such a trade is if and only if he would get 2 first round picks in return....

I agree. If they take Kurt and Malik for him I'd do it. The money is similar and he gives us something we lack, size in the paint, and a real center. I would still try and sign Steven Hunter, and draft 2 of the many bis in the draft. Damp is better than Nazzy and you saw what Steph could do with Nazzy. plus he can block shoots and help control the glass along side on of our newly acquired pf's.

Theres no way they get a pick for Damp tho, it cannot happen, and Zeke would not do it. His contract is until 2010, it would have to be Damp and and expiring for Kurt and Malik or something.

Trading a pick for Damp is not necessary, in fact, Dallas needs to trade Marquis Daniel along with Dampier to us with that deal.

if we get some picks and get rid of one of our overpaid PFs, other than Sweetney, I would take Dampier off their hands!

Kurt

for

Dampier + 57th pick + 2006 1st round pick

At least!Thats the only way I would take on Damps. Definitely not for the 8th pick. They can screw themselves if thats what they want!

They could use a hardnose guy like Kurt(which he would be once he's out of this Knicks system--just look at Nazr) more than a lazy overpaid Dampier.

That would be a great trade for us! Dampier expires after 2011 just like Crawford. Only 3yrs more than Kurt. Geting this year's 57pick and next year's 1st rd pick would be worth it!

I like that idea. Gives the Knicks another future pick. The rebuild of the Knicks IS NOT going to be accomplished in this draft alone.

I'm not that crazy about their 57th pick this year which is their only draft pick in this draft. Most likely we won't even have the roster space for the 57th overall pick.

But if we can get that future 1st round pick, which will problably be in the late 20s, let Isiah go to work with it and draft a steal who improves the talent level of the team as Ariza has. And all the while, we'll have ourselves a servicable bigman who can block shots and score inside. It would be easier for him to get his numbers in NY than Dallas. And also clear the glut at PF!

Do it Isiah! its better than the Spoon + #21 trade since most Likely Dampier will contribute more than the 21st pick right away.

no way do i think DAL would be expecting a #8 pick for Dampier...they would be happy w/cap relief & a player like KT imho...for that deal i might take the deal...but not if we have to give up ANY picks, & that includes a 2nd rounder, or any of our young guys like Ariza or Sweetney.

I don't think there is a single possible deal that would convince me to take Dampier.

I agree with you Marv. There is nothing that would make me want to take Dampier and his enormous contract. What's the logic? We need to draft a young franchise center, and Dampier would totally impede his progress. He's way deep in DJSUNYCs no thanks club. I don't want him for free. He'd be almost immovable on our team. He take away minutes from guys. Just no point. I'd rather suck for another year or 2 than have him.

New York trades:
Kurt Thomas
Malik Rose
Michael Sweetney

for
Erick Dampier
Marquis Daniels

Trade ID: 2402629

Dallas rids itself of Damp's contract taking two contracts that are shorter than Damp's, while getting 2 tough veterans, and a young cheap, promising PF in sweetney. They had to trade Marquis to make it happen but they have alot of good guards on their squad so they wont feel it as much.

New York rids itself of the PF glut, while trading 2 long contracts for 1. We also add a good young 2 guard who plays defense and is on track to be a really good player.

The Money:
When I crunched the numbers, Damp has 60 million dollars left on his contract while Kurt and Malik add up to 41. Not to mention Sweets and Daniels have 8 and 31 million left respectively. From a purely financial standpoint, we are adding over 40 million dollars in salary over the next 5 years. You have to weigh if its worth it.

BUT HOW ABOUT THIS?

I'd like to just trade Stackhouse for KT straight up, but the numbers don't work.

it would have to be KT + Sweets for Stackhouse + their 2006 first rounder (they don't have one this year).

Who would do it? I would. We'd have 2 late first rounders next year to move up.

But we would be giving up probably our 2 best PF's for an aging role player and a late pick. On second thought, I am not so sure. Just some thoughts.

It would have to be only Kurt for Dampier for it to work under the CBA since they both make $7mil

Kurt + Malik = $12mil...it does't work. It has to be Kurt straight up

yeah I see what you're saying, especially if we Draft Bynum. but think about this....

you rather have Bynum sit behind Kurt for 3yrs or sit behind Dampier(who might self implode) for fewer yrs?

I remember discussing that trade before. That would be a great trade for us if Dallas accepts.

Forget about Stackhouse. Dallas gave up a lot to get him when they traded Jamison. Stackhouse is good. He's worth a lot more. He was their most reliable scorer other than Dirk.

Daniels maybe but I would be happy with just Kurt and next year's #1
