I mean last year for us, he had flashes.

But during the regular season and playoffs, and especially tonight, he is looking like a young stud.

Did getting traded motivate him?

Or- is it playing for a winning team that has brought this level of play out of him

Deke looks good tonight, he is a force and in the 4th he dominated the paint. I would like to see the suns vs the rockets....

Mutombo's the f'n man!! I LOVED the finger wag near the end after a huge block... I honestly don't know why we weren't starting him. The Rockets have been playing much better with Yao on the bench lately... their second unit really carries them

Sorry to hear about Ewing's sister

I was really pissed off at the Knicks when they put him in the dog house last year. Our defense went down the crapper! It just seemed like they were trying to erase all of Layden's mistake and signing Mutombo was actually Layden's good move!

Of course you always have those fans who were complaining because Mutombo is slow without realizing how he WAS our defense but thats not surprising its problably the same people who wanted Ewing traded and don't want Big Z and say they want a C who can run the floor when in reality Centers never finish on breaks they start them with good defensive and rebounding

Dikembe says

Rockets/Mavs series has been a joy to watch. Deke's play is a key reason why. When Yao is just not being Yao Deke just steps up and fills the void. He has the confidence and still has the skills to do it.

Deke and Nazr would have made for a good frontcourt tandem. But thats all water under the bridge. If we can get Taft in the draft and sign Hunter, its all gravy.

Deke was badly missed by the Knicks this season. I thought that it was a mistake to trade our only shot blocker/ defender. Isiah had to do what he had to do, but considering that he trade Zeke to obtain Crawfford, I wasn't too happy with the move. Deke would have helped our team tremendously..

Isiah has no business sense, and unfortunately no basketball sense off the court, hated the trade from the beginning, pretty much hated every trade he made.....

Van Horn was a bum, but he fit the system and style we played as did Doleac

I don't care that Frank Williams didn't play at all this year, he played well for us and showed some flashes of being a good player and a tough back up guard.....and he had some of the old knicks in him, harrinton is better than Rose and Mo Taylor and we wouldn't have had his contract after this year.......

Zeke you don't give up the one person that can erase all of the terrible mistakes of your guards....by the way the Bulls weren't going to sign Crawford so we could have probably got him with the mid-level......

Last years team would have made the playoffs too......Nazy looks pretty good right now on the Spurs and a nice sign & trade option for a team like Memphis, but we don't need stro swift we have the five headed power foward.....

Did i mention we have four first round picks, fantastic thanks isiah

stop crying about Deke...no one was crying that Deke shouldn't be included in that Crawford trade when it went down...he fits the HOU system perfectly...Isiah wanted to go w/young legs, at least that's what he said his plan was at the time...i didn't hear any complaints then.

yes, he would have helped this team this year, but they still don't make the playoffs w/him anyway...& who cares if we HAD made the playoffs this year? so we could get embarassed again by a far superior team like the Heat? i'm glad we have a lottery pick this year...i only wish we had lost a few MORE games so we could have a better shot at a guy like Green.

I though trading Deke was crazy then and I still think it was crazy. I approve of almost everything IT has done, even Mo, but I cannot for the life of me understand why he would have gotten rid of Zeke in the Crawford package.

Mutumbo can still block shots and board. I think we knew that from last year. He's in a perfect situation right now with a defined role, with a team that plays the style he can play. When we were playing Chaney, half court style he fit. One Isiah got here, brought in Marbury etc., he was the right fit anymore. Either way he wasn't gonna be some panacea for us, and I have no problem giving him up for Craw...

I didn't like Crawfford then, and I don't like him now. Crawfford is the epidemy of what a Knicks player should never be....He is soft and frail. We need guys like Ariza who is hungry. I know that Isiah didn't have much of a choice, but in all actuality, he should have at the least try to get a draft pick with that deal. I think that he will be a FA next season, and Isiah should at the least consider to bring him back to teach whomever we draft ....

because CHI wanted his expiring contract...w/o Deke it was no deal as far as Paxson was concerned, & there were no objections posted on this board when that trade was made.

I think that IT gave up too much for Crawford. As for Deke, even as an FA Houston will probably give him enough to keep him. And I got the feeling that someone in the Knicks front office didn't like/or undervalued Deke, so I don't think he'll be back.

I'm very surprised people believe we gave up too much as far as players for Crawford. I think you can make the argument for money, but no way those players would even come close to giving us as much as Crawford and JYD gave to the team this year.

Nobody's talking about JYD - separate topic. For Craw, we gave up too much.

how can that be a separate topic when we got both guys in the same trade?

folks- when mutombo was here, I saw first hand a 7ft C that was a step slow- sure, he would block shots and have the occasional game, but I thought he was washed up-

now, the question I'm wondering is- is he rejevunated because he's coming off the bench and not starting- is it a winning organization or is he motivated because when he got traded, he wanted to prove he wasn't washed up.

I don't know if anyone posted this- but does Mutombo look 25 years old or what?
