How about TT/Penny for Odom and Brian Grant?
Grant has one more year after this, and since Houston will still be on the books that makes it all ok. Odom is the do-all forward this team desperatly needs... he can play all 5 spots at any given time.

Why would the Lakers do it? Easy.. their payroll goes from $50mm at the end of next year to $25mm at the end of the year. They can draft a solid PF prospect this year and have HUGE cap space to offer FAs or make trades where they take back $$$

I would do this deal in a heart beat. That is given that we trade both Sweetney and Kurt Thomas.....Actually, this is a very doable deal, because LA will want to make a viable run at Yao Ming next season. TT's expiring contract would look really good in their eyes...

they woulnd be in possition to offer Amare max money. Also any restricted FA that doesnt get an extension this year, ie Chandler, Dalembert, Curry, etc.

Why would they want Amare??? Yao would complement Kobe perfectly, because he is not a demanding big man...

This is an interesting trade...after next season the Lakers would be able to sign 2 max free agents. Who of that caliber would be available?

I can see this turning in to the Phoenix situation all over again.

That trade would be an absolute steal from a talent standpoint. Lakers are out of the playoffs and my be looking to shake things up this summer. I doubt, though that TT/Penny would be enough. Players the caliber of ODom are never traded for expiring contracts alone. I could see this deal happening only if we give up picks and/or Sweetney.

Perhaps a situation where we swap 1st rounders (trading down from 6 to say 12) and throw in the late 1st rounder this year or next year. Would that be enough to get it done? I'm not sure.

this is the kind of trade I think you can justify the $$$. The Knicks clearly get the best player in Odom. This would be a case of how you can use $$$ to turn scrubs into one of the league's young bright players.

The more Mo Taylors and Malik Roses you have on your roster the tougher it is to justify a trade like this. I would include the late #1 if needed. I think this would get us MUCH closer to establishing a style of play... obvisously something I harp on quite a bit.

How would this line up look:
pg Marbury
sg Ariza 6'8
sf Odom 6'10
pf KT 6'8
c Petro 7'0
with Crawford, JYD, Rose, Charlie Bell, Grant, Taylor and Sweetney rounding out the roster.

MAybe we lose just as many games, but if we establish a style of play we can afford to be patient and build around that.

yeah, i suggested pretty much the same trade yesterday fish, only mine included the late 1st round pick going to LA as well...i feel that evens it out a bit more fairly for both sides...obviously you know i'd jump at the chance to make this trade if offered.

I would be willing to go as far as add Sweetney and our #2 or the Spur's #1 nexr year.

If the Lakers want to move Odom they will get 100 offer with more talent coming back, but at the end of the year they will have what they have. The Knick trade would let them add a couple more young guys if we included Sweetney or a pick, but the cap space is paramount. LA isnt Atlanta. Players dream of being a Laker since they know what a BB is. Having $20mm in cap space, Kobe, Butler, Mihm, a couple of decent young players and they are in VERY good shape to do things.

I would say NY is the only team that would or could take on Grant's $$$ to set the Lakers up this way. Now, the Lakers may just say no thanks, but to me this is a scenario (like Marbury) where the ability to take on $$$ cash yeilds us a great player in Odom.

Rose, JYD, Mo Taylor.. these guys hurt our ability to do that.

Dudettes!!!! you are all nuts... I like Ariza, but I don't know if he can play the SG position just yet. If we were to trade with LA, we would have to include Crawf in that deal. Crawf, Kurt, and TT for Odoms, Devean Brown, and Grant. We could easily draft a player from the draft who is ready to contribute to play the SG, one from a good program preferably, who happened to be disciplined. LA would be very happy with that deal, because they would eliminate Odoms and Grant's big contracts, and add a guy like Craw who would best fit Phil Jackson triangle. After all, Phill will go back to LA...........Forget about him coming to N.Y, because that will not happen.

I agree. that lineup isn't championship calibur without bogut or taft in the frontcourt. You need a star in the frontcourt if you're going to be a serious contender. We would also still need a SG. Ariza after he puts on some weight will definitely be a SF. And we need perimeter defense. With the very little minutes Ariza is getting lately, he will still make the same defensive rookie mistakes next year. And I definitely don't want Craw starting because then we have no perimeter D.

i'd love to see Odom at the PF, w/Ariza at SF, Bogut or Taft at C, Marbury at PG, & letting Crawford have some more time at SG...maybe we get lucky & nab ourselves a quality SG via the MLE?

who said anything about championship caliber? I'm talking about getting younger, establishing a style of play and collecting players that have skills that fit together.

As for Ariza at shooting guard I like a couple things. With KT, Odom and Marbury you have guys that can shoot. Ariza can guard guys smaller and it allows you to stick him on the other team's better offesnive player. Give him some minutes and he will give you something like 10 points and 8 rebs a night in 26-32 minutes at SG while playing good D. I dont know how Petro is on the boards but you have 4 guys thats are FAST and great in space and you will get exellent rebounding at the 2,3,4 and maybe 5. Run, hit the glass, attack the basket, create space. You have a style of play there.

I could live with that team, and it is a very young team with the exception of KT, but with odom and Ariza on the floor, you would have two guys that can do just about anything on the floor, from defending, to rebounding, to scoring. I like that... sign me up for that trade..

The trade would have to be TT/Penny for Odom/Grant/George to make the work contract wise.

This would defnitely mean that we have to trade away 2 players from this list

KT, Sweetney, JYD and Taylor.

A KT for Spoon and Houston 1st Round pick is still very enticing.

I still see a Denver trade sending Jamal to Kiki. Jamal/Sweetney/JYD for Andre Miller/Lenard/Nene. Denver needs a SG and Jamal would fit right in there with those high flyers. Miller can be our version of Dumars with Marbury playing role of Zeke in the backcourt.

I would then draft Gerald Green for our lotto pick. Take Jarret Jack for the late pick. Take a euro on the 2nd round and leave him there for some more seasoning.

C-Nene, Butler, Grant, Sundov
PF-Odom, Taylor, Spoon
SF-Ariza, George
SG-Miller, Green, Lenard
PG-Marbury, Jack

Oh...for the houston 1st round pick...we get Hakim Warrick. By the way, this if all planets and stars align correctly for the Knicks on draft day.
