How dare is this dude to criticize this current crew? wasn't he and Layden the ones that signed Houston for a $100 million????

I meant to say Checkett not Hacket...

Lets not say how dare, he who the **** are you kidding, this team has no idea what it is to be a knick and lay your heart down like, Oak, Starks, Ewing, LJ, Spree.....

The layden stuff is garbage because the man was terrible, but this current group is terrible, Marbury's heart is in question, points don't equal wins effort does and he has not brought his best defensively for at least half of the games this season

How dare you

I see that you and Checkett see eye 2 eye. Dude, this is a team sport. It takes a team to win games, not one player. For you to blame this season on Marburry is absurd. Take a few seconds to analyse what you have said to see if you make any sense. Has Lenney done all that he could to put our team in the best situation to win? no. Have Kurt, TT, Houston, Crawf all been consistant this season? no. Oh, you can't see that far, my bad.

checketts is an idiot, JVG's job was on the line and was saved by that finals run in 99, becuase he was forced to use (due to injury to ewing) guys that grunfeld bought in like camby, who saved that series. Grunfeld has gone on to build another good team in DC and JVG the weasle left us in the cold... Then checketts hires his butt buddy in layden, a good guy and a very good scout, but definately not GM material..

Comparing me to Scott Layden is a personal attack on my character, intelligence, and sanitity....

Scott Layden was one of the worst GM's this sport has ever seen and really put us in a bad situation.....

FOR all you wannabe Knick fans it starts from the top on down, everyone sets an example for someone else, Jordan outworks and then others not as talented don't want to let down....When you have a team that takes pride in what they do it filters on down.....

I am not blaming Marbury for the season, plenty of blame is on Isiah and Crawford and coaching....But when a player doesn't get a hand up, box out his man.....fight to get back into the play when they get beat TT, it breads losing, and this teams core is made up of a bunch of losers....

Checkets blew a big oppurtunity to get Phil Jackson, which would have really helped our team.....

But when you have players out there that aren't as skilled willing to die on the floor everyone is willing to die, and do what it takes, for each other....

This team doesn't have it.....

I like Spree but I find it strange that you include a guy in that arguement. Didn't he recently complained that he couldn't feed his family on $14 million. I believe he is one of the main reasons that Flip Saunders is out of a job right now. Wasn't he the same guy that joke his coach because his coach chewed him out about joking around while his team was getting the ass kick... But I like Spree.

Awe Thats so sweet!

I hope one day Layden tells his side of the story. I wonder how much pressure he got from above to do certain things.

Checketts was a straight shooter and was the man behind the team of the 1990's.

I never thought when he left it would go from bad to worse.
I never thought when Layden was fired this team would be so much worse this season.

It is what it is fellas, gotta always put a face and blame on someone.

How did it get worse Nalod? The team has Marbury, four first round picks over the next two years, Ariza, and a lot of expiring contracts.

listen folks, you can't suddenly turn a bad team into a good or great team after 1 year. It normally takes about 3 years. Isiah has only been our GM for 1 year, let's not forget all of that..

2002-2003 record: 37-45
2003-2004 record: 39-43 (albeit with better players)
2004-2005 current record: 29-41 with a lot more losses to come

That's how.

You're including the record with Isiah in 2003-4. He said it got worse after Layden left. The correct comparison would be

Layden: 77-115 over 2.5 years, no draft picks, no young players with upside, no stars to build gradually with
Isiah: 58-69, 4 draft picks over 2 years, Marbury, Ariza

I'd take the latter description of the former. That's why it hasn't gotten worse.

Man, it's still the same thing. We are still way below .500, and we haven't gone past the first round of the playoffs since the year 2000. That's a long freaking time. That was the last team that was actually a contender. We still aren't a contender, and having exciting players doesn't mean jack squad to me unless there are wins to show for it.

One step at a time. If you can't see that

Isiah: 58-69, 4 draft picks over 2 years, Marbury, Ariza

is a better future than

Layden: 77-115 over 2.5 years, no draft picks, no young players with upside, no stars to build gradually with

then I can't help you

N.Y. fans are so ungrateful. When we were a great team, the same ones who are now crying, were out there criticizing Ewing for not being able to take this team over the top. Now that we are at the bottom of the pile, the same ones are refering back the good old years. How can anyone in their right mind cricitize Isiah after 1 year? give the man a little time to acquire the players that he feels could best fit his vision....

Checketts is right in much of his criticism, but he maybe overlooking the fact that the same force that was causing him to make short-sightedly dumb decisions, Dolan, is also causing Isiah to do the same thing.

The Knicks are screwed as long as his father owns the team.
