mike doesnt have enough PT; i mean, you build your confidence and your understanding / feeling of the game by playing, not by sitting on the bench.

I voted no.

To me it's a balance. Wilkens has 3 goals: get the team into the playoffs, develop the team, develop the youngsters.

You can't just play Mike and Ariza 20-30 minutes a game and expect NY fans and the organization to be OK with that decision.

If the matchup is good, if the play is worthy, if the team is playing well, then you give the young guys minutes.

Sweet is getting pretty good run, with the exception of a handful of games. And we don't really know what was behind the decisions in those games (Detroit). I think he's developing. And I think his minutes will increase throughout the year.

I'm not a big Lenny fan, because I think he's too passive. I think he gives the guys more slack than they know what to do with sometimes. Also think he hasn't done a good enough job stressing defense. Sure, he says it, and they guys do too, but defense it about attitude, and I don't feel it.

All that said, I really can't quibble with his substitution patterns. Think they're pretty good.

i hope that the utah game is an indication for the rest of the season. i can easily see sweetney being featured in the 2nd unit as the season progresses b/c you need a player like that for the playoffs.

it took Zack a full two years to get it right, and Sweetney is showing signs. The Knicks have no reason to live with Sweetney's mistakes. They can afford to bring him along in old school fashion, and I have no problem with the vets he's learning from. Jerome and KT are excellent pros and have a nice bag of NBA tricks for Seetney to learn from.

fish, i understand where you're coming from but it was little bit different with zack b/c portland already had a post up players in sheed and sabonis. the thing i see is that sweetney clearly has a talent that nobody else on the team has, and it's an effective talent that just isn't used enough. i like him learning and earning his way onto the court but i think we can do more with him right now. but i know in good time, he will be THE guy.

Sweetney's fat ass is holding back his game, to often he comes into the game and partly because he didn't really commit himself to dropping enough weight in the offseason he is beat by quicker players

Why doesn't Sweetney get more minutes
1. He is always in foul trouble he may lead the league in fouls per minute
2. He is turnover prone, everytime he puts the ball on the floor he either travels or exposes himself to often

What we like
1. He continues to get to the free throw line
2. He is hard nosed, and has improved his game even perhaps finding a go to move with the turn around

What he needs to do
1. Commit himself to losing 20 pounds in the offseason, it's going to be his contract year so at least commit to get your money.
2. Work on developing a baby hook in the lane
3. Increase his vertical leap, hire Tim Grover do what it takes

you do realize he's dropped a total of 30+ pounds over the past two years, right? and that's a healthy and good amount.

another 10-15 this offseason would be nice and on target.

he has to learn defense but he gets no benefit from the refs, nor should he, but don't you think he should be out on the court more than he is now?

you folks would have said Charles Barkley was too fat or too short!!

I voted yes- but I think the problem is Lenny is still trying to find out a rotation that works- sometimes I think he forgets he's got some players at the end of the bench.

Some of the games this year have been won because guys like Sweetney & Ariza get put in, get hungry and get momentum back for us.

I don't want to fault Lenny for not having a rotation, but at some point I'd hope he'd have a better grip on it than he seems to at the current time.

Whenever the knicks has to rely on outside shooting that is when he should be playing.

The way he played against the wiz on offense was classic(GEORGETOWN) Sweetney!
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

His predraft 2003 weight was 275. I don't buy the idea that he's lost over 30 pounds and is below 245. He looks around 260+. For an NBA player, he IS fat. He needs to lose another 15 to 25 pounds.

Right now he's playing a reasonable number of minutes, as are JYD and Kurt.

What would keep Sweetney effective is hustling his ass of on the low block. Developing that 15ft jumper to a consistant level as well as that turn around. And help defense he probably just needs experience but he can become decent a shot blocker down the road once he figures it out.

I think you're thinking of his freshmen year in college.

I was willing to give Lenny an extreme benefit of the doubt. I was one of his last supporters. But even I can't support the lack of playing time he's giving Sweetney now.

sweets got ZERO 2nd half minutes. on a back to back.

something's up and i have no idea what it is...

i have no doubt in my mind that if sweetney starts AND gets the offense to flow through him, he'll average 15+ PPG right now, not next season, but now.

I agree Sweetney is ready for quality mins right now. He has played well all month except 1 game in which he didn't play the next game. But he has really picked it up in the last few games. KT hasn't been playing that well latley. Time to give Sweetney more consistant mins. If we are going to be a 500. team at least do it developing Sweetney. His confidence is high right now. Play him 25mins let him grow and grow.
