The both look like good prospects. I am surprised Nickel lasted to pick 47. His shooting is really elite. He has a quick release and good size. This is the draft profile from nbadraft.net:
NBA Comparison: Baylor Scheierman / Jason Kapono Strengths: One of the more proven perimeter shooters available in the 2026 NBA Draft, bringing a highly translatable floor-spacing skill set built around confidence, consistency, and experience … A high-level shooter with deep range and clean mechanics, has connected on roughly 40% from three-point range in each of the past three seasons while shooting over 82% from the free throw line in all four collegiate years, indicators that strongly support shooting translating to the NBA level … Confident and highly effective in catch-and-shoot situations, consistently punishing defenses for helping off him … Comfortable shooting from well beyond the arc and capable of stretching defenses with deep range … Projects as an immediate floor spacer who can thrive in movement actions, relocation shooting, and spot-up situations … Sneaky explosiveness allows for occasional above-the-rim finishes and surprising dunk ability despite not profiling as a major athlete … Strong, physically mature frame for a wing and competes hard … Takes care of the basketball at a high level, averaging just 0.7 turnovers per game as a senior … Moves well without the ball, understands spacing, and projects cleanly into a complementary offensive role … Low mistake player who knows how to play within structure and complement higher-usage teammates. Weaknesses: Lacks ideal foot speed and may struggle defensively containing quicker wings and guards at the NBA level, creating concerns about becoming a defensive liability in certain matchups … Not especially quick off the dribble and lacks a dynamic first step, limiting ability to consistently create separation or generate offense in isolation situations … More of a complementary offensive player than a true shot creator … Passing and playmaking remain fairly limited, averaging just 1.2 assists per game while showing only modest ability to create for teammates … Defensive playmaking numbers are underwhelming, posting just 0.8 steals per game as a senior, raising questions regarding overall defensive impact … Despite elite shooting ability, was not an especially prolific scorer, averaging 13.5 points per game as a senior, which may leave some evaluators wanting more offensive production from a shooting specialist … Ball handling remains an area for improvement, particularly when attacking closeouts or operating in traffic … Older prospect by draft standards, as he will already be 23 years old before the start of his rookie NBA season, slightly limiting perceived long-term upside. Outlook: Considered a likely mid-to-late second-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft … Offers a clear NBA role due to shooting ability, experience, and offensive fit as a floor-spacing complementary wing … Spent one season at North Carolina, one at Virginia Tech, and finished his collegiate career with two productive seasons at Vanderbilt, steadily improving throughout his college career … Could carve out a niche as a movement shooter and offensive specialist in the mold of Baylor Scheierman or Jason Kapono … Ability to hold up defensively and continue improving ball handling will likely determine whether he develops into a reliable NBA rotation player or settles into a depth role. Notes: Tyler Nickel measured 6’6.00” barefoot, 217.4 pounds with a 6’8.50” wingspan and 8’6.50” standing reach at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine … Recorded a 26.0-inch no-step vertical and 34.0-inch max vertical … Averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 36 games as a senior while shooting 44.5% from the field, 40.0% from three, and 84.7% from the free throw line … Hit 110 three-pointers during his senior season, ranking third all-time in a single season at Vanderbilt … Twice made eight three-pointers in a game, the second-most in Vanderbilt history … Shot over 82% from the free throw line in all four collegiate seasons … As a junior, led Vanderbilt in three-point shooting at 40.5% and led the SEC during conference play at 45.2% from beyond the arc … Posted a career-high 30 points against Central Arkansas as a senior … Recorded his first collegiate double-double against LSU with 19 points and 10 rebounds … Spent one season at North Carolina (2022-23), one at Virginia Tech (2023-24), and two seasons at Vanderbilt (2024-26) … Virginia High School League’s all-time leading scorer with 2,909 career points at East Rockingham High School … Averaged 35 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists as a senior in high school and was named Virginia Player of the Year in 2022 … Four-star recruit in the class of 2022 … Born September 5, 2003 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Here is nbadraft.net draft profile for Jack Kayil:
NBA Comparison: Ajay Mitchell / Killian Hayes Strengths: Kayil is an intriguing young point guard prospect with a great feel for the game uncommon for his age, showing advanced instincts and composure as a decision maker … Possesses good positional size for a lead guard, with an excellent 8’5.5” standing reach that gives him more of a shooting guard-sized profile … Owns a very physical, strong frame that allows him to absorb contact well, particularly when attacking the lane … An excellent ball handler with a polished handle for his age, he shows comfort creating space and changing directions, utilizing crossovers and hesitation moves effectively … Displays the ability to create separation into pull-up jumpers, including flashes of comfort pulling up from deep range, adding intrigue to his long-term shot creation upside … A very good passer who understands how to orchestrate offense, he shows impressive vision and timing while consistently making the right reads within the flow of the game … Displays strong pick-and-roll proficiency, operating with patience and a mature understanding of pace … Doesn’t pound the rock, keeping the offense moving and making quick decisions rather than over-dribbling … Appears to be a well-coached player with a polished understanding of team concepts, spacing, and offensive flow … Demonstrated encouraging playmaking instincts at Alba Berlin, averaging 3.7 assists per game in 21.4 minutes, an indicator of his feel, vision, and decision making at a young age against solid competition … While his shooting percentages were inconsistent, he still showed encouraging touch for a young international guard, connecting on 38.4% from the field, 29.9% from three, and 77.7% from the free throw line, with his mechanics and confidence pointing toward long-term shooting upside … Comfortable using his left hand on drives, showing solid touch and composure finishing or navigating traffic … Possesses very clean shooting mechanics and excellent form, giving reason for optimism that the jump shot will continue to improve … Has shown the ability to be disruptive in passing lanes and contest shots using his size and anticipation … Uses his instincts effectively to compensate for average burst and can impact the game with intelligence and feel rather than pure athleticism … Shows some bounce and is capable of getting up for athletic finishes and dunks … Mature pace and composure stand out for a young guard prospect … Has considerable upside tied to his combination of feel, physicality, positional size, and shooting potential. Weaknesses: Perimeter shooting consistency remains a question mark, as he can be streaky despite encouraging mechanics and touch, while the percentages have yet to fully back up the projection … While he shows some bounce and is capable of getting up for athletic finishes and dunks, he is not an elite overall athlete, which can occasionally limit his ability to consistently create separation against quicker defenders … Can get stopped around the basket at times against length due to a lack of elite burst in tight spaces … Foot speed is a slight concern, impacting both his first step offensively and lateral mobility defensively at times … Not an overly quick guard laterally, which could create occasional matchup concerns against speedier ball handlers … Can resort to bully ball at times, using his strength and physicality to overpower defenders, an approach that likely won’t be as effective against NBA size and athleticism, though he does possess the profile to potentially become a physically imposing NBA point guard … Can occasionally rely too heavily on finesse and feel rather than consistently putting pressure on defenses downhill … Still somewhat of an unproven commodity, making it difficult to fully project how his game will translate with greater offensive responsibility at higher levels … Offensive efficiency will be heavily tied to how consistently the outside shot develops. Outlook: Kayil appears focused on remaining in the NBA Draft, though he still has a decision to finalize roughly 10 days prior to the draft regarding whether to honor his commitment to Gonzaga for the 2026–27 season … Considered an intriguing but somewhat unproven prospect, he has generated legitimate interest and appears to have a real chance of factoring into the late first round … Projects as a developmental prospect and somewhat of a project, but one with real intrigue due to his combination of positional size, feel for the game, physicality, and flashes of perimeter skill … If things break right developmentally, there is a pathway toward a high-level outcome, with best-case-scenario shades of Deron Williams in terms of size, pace, feel, and pick-and-roll craft, though he remains far from that level at this stage … He also possesses the physical profile to potentially develop into a physically imposing NBA point guard in the mold of Malcolm Brogdon, particularly if he continues refining his body and athletic profile while successfully scaling up his playing time and offensive responsibility … Teams betting on his feel, size, and skill level could ultimately be rewarded with a versatile lead guard capable of impacting the game on both ends. Notes: Measured: 6’3.25”, 183 lbs, 6’5.25” wingspan, 8’5.5” standing reach, 30.75” max vertical at the 2024 Basketball Without Borders … Measured: 6’4.5” in shoes, 185 lbs, 6’5.5” wingspan, 8’4” standing reach, 20.75” standing vertical at the 2024 adidas Eurocamp … 2025–26 with Alba Berlin (Germany): 21.4 MPG, 7.1 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 3.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, 2.3 TO … Shot 38.4% FG, 29.9% 3PT, 77.7% FT … Point guard committed to Gonzaga for the 2026–27 season … Born 1/27/06 … Trust the Process

Knixkik wrote:Kayil had an early second round grade and offers some upside as a “jack” of all trades, master of none. At 6’4ish, he has good combo guard size. Not sure where he fits in on the roster with so many guards under contract. He could be a draft-and-stash, a minimum second round exception guy, or a 2-way contract. But there’s a world where he can eventually be a good bench secondary playmaker. Their moves heavily point to them looking to retain Mitch while still being under the 2nd apron. The fact they didn't go big man in the 2nd round though says that they have plans for Huk who will probably sign a multi year deal similar to Mo. Knicks could of had Carr & Reed(given what the Spurs offered for him at #26). Who could of been rotational bench pieces locked in rookie contracts for the next 4 years. So for them to not go this route tells us they are all in on retaining Mitch while staying under the 2nd apron. The 2nds they acquired also could be useful if for whatever reason they needed to package some of them to dump a contract. McCullar/Nickel seem like nice complimentary pieces for each others games. Same for Mo & Huk. Hopefully we get to see them all grow together. https://vote.nba.com/en Vote for your Knicks.
