Wemby is an arrogant classless dirty player (I'm french so I rooted for him to be a good player but I cannot stand the guy now). Between his comments, the non stop flagrant fouls on Reid, Caruso, GTA and Brunson, wemby shows he does not deserve his special treatment from the nba.The thing is the knicks franchisee does not need to be good to generate money and the nba knows it. Being a popular franchise is actually a disadvantage. Even when the team was a 17 wins team and shved was our best player, MSG was packed and the merchandise was selling.
So the nba has more business interests in pushing their next face of the league.
I do not expect any changes to the officiating and knicks will play 5 on 6 and have to beat the odds.
the NBA would be fools to make Wemby the face of the league and Wemby himself is to blame for this. he's a dirty play. Unfortunately for the NBA, but fortunate for the NBA, they don't control the narrative like they used to. IN prior times they would get Doris or the ESPN crew to fawn over whomever they wanted, but just like fans want an honest whistle, they also want an honest commentary. If they know they're being fed baloney they turn to social media, and social media is going to play dirty Wemby (over many series, not just this one) probably forever -- or at least until the league and he cleans up their act.
And no offense to you or France but France is not a big market and I may be wrong but I get the sense a sizable percentage of Americans don't have high opinions about France more generally -- going back to the way they acted AFTER WW 2 when de Gaulle didn't want France to contribute to Nato military expense but wanted a say so in everything else (not endorsing this view, to Freedom Fries, to current day. I'm not endorsing this view but IMO a realty. Personally, I would put Wemby in the category of close to The Iron Shiek (at least for the time being).
If the NBA were smart (spoiler: they're not) they would start pushing Jalen as the Golden bBoy. he's the little engine who could. He has a great character, says the right stuff, not pompous and more people can related to a 6' guy who got great from working on his game non-stop and not relying on extreme, natural athleticism or height. Add on top of that he didn't take bottom dollar and was more interested in winning. No "The Decision" days; no WWE nicknames like The King, or The Alien.
