I know positivity is boring around here but he looked really confident last night. He looked like a spark plug on offense you want from your 6th man but he’s also a really good defender. He will never be a playmaker for others but on this team he can play next to Brunson effectively without needing to be. I always saw him as an undersized 3&D but his self creation is really growing. With the pull-up 3pt game, is he becoming basically Quickley 2.0? His size may be a problem against some teams, but generally speaking he looks like the real deal as a 6th starter level player. And best of all he’s locked into the tiny descending contract for the next 3 years. Huge x-factor going forward for the Knicks.

I feel bad for him that he signed the contract extension that he did. He's definitely earned a much bigger payday.

Deuce looked like a super vet out there? Very impressive although I would say I didn't catch his full minutes last night, just the nightlights.

I had thought Deuce would be an additional piece if the Knicks ever needed to make another medium to big trade, I think I may be wrong on that. Looks like he ain't going nowhere.

With his style of play and his cheap salary slot he would be almost impossible to replace. And there’s no way we can trade him for a guy like Kessler.

Right! I'd want a few firsts FROM Utah!

Quick was traded because Deuce was ready to step up but we could not afford to have him walk. He came out early and needed time to mature. If he stayed one more year he would have been a 1st round pick. He knew this but the itch was there to move on.
Knicks not just offered him nice money, but something even more valuable " A Role". IQ gone he got minutes!!!
To get paid he needs consistency and a role in the rotation offers that. Keep it up and he will make his bag!
But, if Dadiet proves good at 6-7 (he is listed as a 2) and Utah wants to make a play for him with kessler or picks, and willing to pay him starting wage then you do it.
Could be another team perhaps in a year or two.
He is under contract for two more years AFTER this one! He is a major asset for his production given his deal is for 13mm over three years. We need players like that but at some point after next year you have to extend him or trade him.
What to do? Nothing yet. Dadiet or another might create a good situation in the future.

Start him with JB and have Mikal or Josh come off the bench.

Better ball movement, better shooting.

If Thibs doesn’t, it’s time to fire him

The only concern is rebounding. But one thing I do see is we may finish a lot of games this year with McBride in the lineup over hart. Regardless we have 6 guys who will see 30+ mins a night.

haha board kind of feels lost now that he's been traded

deuce is exhibit A for player development. for many if not all teams i could imagine him riding pine when drafted and then ousted the next year or two. our organization saw the intangibles and mentality and gave it a more serious effort and it's paying off

I didn’t think he could squeeze more juice out of his size/skill package but it appears I’m wrong and both his shot (butter) and confidence (sky high) have jumped another level.

He’s pushing for opportunities with his dribble and if he rises with space it feels like it’s going down.

His development has really given me high hopes for Dadiet, Kolek and Hukporti. The player development is there. I always said my biggest criticism of this front office is not giving themselves enough bites at the apple in the draft. Knicks have been hitting on so many later picks.

I don't feel bad for multi-millionaires.

That and his reluctance to get to the rim is why I would trade him in a package for a more complete player.

Im not anxious to see Deuce traded, but Id be OK with it if the FO sees a way of upgrading the roster.

During the off-season with the Kessler rumors and our center needs I thought Deuce for Kessler would be a solid trade for us.
This is pre-Kat and pre losing Donte.

To be fair Kessler put up 16 and 14 last night with 5 blocks on 6-7 shooting and 4-5 from FT line. A young healthy mobile big that can move his feet and swat shots at a high rate would be nice.

Still wonder if maybe we need to run Deuce with starters and figure out the bench workings on the fly.

If we end up grabbing Shamet/Ryan and adding Huck back I could see Deuce starting with a bench unit of Payne/Shamet/Ryan/Josh/Precious but understanding other starters would be mixed in.

Still think Deuce should start over Hart. Like starting your best shooters. Thibs then can pick & choose what player Hart comes in for, which adds to his versatility.

Deuce has a great wingspan for his height so defense should not be an issue.
