I know I should move on, but I can't get over the Knicks trading Donte Divincenzo.

I know it's "just a business", but that's a quote I hear about teams before the fall apart. I know his production can be replaced, but I feel there was something special in what they had last year. It was bad enough losing IHart, which they had no control over, and he brought so much toughness and rebounding that we cannot reproduce (even with a health Mitchell). But that was something that HAD to be replaced. Donte was a big part of the success last year, and so much of the heart of the Knicks. I just can't get over them trading him, and I think a part of what was special last year might be gone. Julius I felt probably needed to be moved, and I like KAT, but I just cant shake losing Donte. It just feels "wrong".

As long as we succeed, you will move on. Last season was special and Donte finished really well when he was about last man standing. His 39pt effort with Brunson out was special in a losing cause.
Knicks are a culture and players are finding success here. KAT MIGHT elevate the whole thing if is healthy and the chemistry is right. We felt awful losing RJ and IQ given they "Grew up" as knicks but OG quickly won us over.
That trade also free up Deuce.
Mikal is a big piece whose talents exceed what we lost in DDV.
DDV gave us moments. Perhaps we'll have them again with KAT and Mikal.

I think every Knicks fan has that player and attachments.

Hopefully Mikal wins us over and fill the gap.

it's a downer. We knew there was gonna be a ton of turnover. In hindsight it was always gonna be a total roster overhaul and sadly homegrown talent is part of the "war chest."

Donte reminded me of Starks. Shoot. Slash. Attack. Crash. Full throttle. It is a TOUGH loss. I dont think he wanted to leave but I do think he's not the biggest fan of this area and prefers something like Minn. They really kinda made the trade for Donte because of his contract. Lets them flip Randle (remember they are cost cutting and likely not giving him the bag) and have more depth around Ant/DD/Rudy/Naz

Fucking loved DD and that beating he gave Phili is etched in Knick lore. If we win a chip DD will have been a building piece and a part of that.

Now... that being said Mikal in this role of 3rd scorer and defender is nuts. Mikal/Brunson/Josh is gonna be a very nice rebound relationship. I am feeling very positive about this. Hang in there. I feel you

Mikal Bridges was my favorite player NOT on the Knicks, and I was beyond elated when they got him. But I really enjoyed the Villanova Four "thing", and lament it's loss, even though I've wanted Bridges on the Knicks since he was sitting there at #9. But just as John Starks was traded for Latrell, hopefully it makes the team better.

Yeah, it's the Starks thing. John Starks was my favorite Knick from 91 until 98, and when he got traded it was devastating. I never saw Mikal as the replacement for DD, and DD was going to be the bench scorer. I think his "replacement" is going to be McBride, who is so good as well. I'm feeling positive too, it's just that Philly shot was kind of "the dunk" of last season, and now the guy who got the offensive rebound and the guy who hit the shot are gone, and that's tough.

You guys are totally right about the Starks vibe. Its the fearlessness/physicality alongside the quick trigger on the 3. The fact that he'd mix it up with bigger guys. He seemed like he was born to be a Knick and was here for a decade or something. Crazy he will be a 1 and done guy in a Knick uniform, but he certainly gives you the once a knick always a knick vibe

His time here was so short but memorable. He’s a great player and fit perfectly. I agree it’s a hard pill to swallow. The fact that it came so unexpectedly and he was such an unlikely player to trade. It was just so shocking.

Rumor is he was very envious of the others making the big money and that he was the best player on that 'Nova team and has not translated that to the NBA.
While he was groomsman at Brunson wedding he got very drunk and was talking **** about making way for Bridges and going to the bench. I heard the "Brunson Big head Jokes were a bit out of hand.

IM just making this **** up but if it makes you feel better then run with it!

Feel he is still on the team, just wears a Shamet jersey.
Think by mid season, you will notice Shamet does some of the same things and is also not afraid to shoot. Which we all came to appreciate about Divo. But yes, will be missed.

There were reports of Donte not liking his new role and expressing as much to management. Also reports Julius Randle also expressed connern about his role. Both players were not exactly thrilled with the direction of the team and what that direction meant for their playing time. I think we hit a home run with the Towns trade. Fixed a giant hole in the starting lineup and addressed other issues as well.

The one about DDV has been debunked.
As for Jules, I think its complicated. I think its a bit mutual logic wise and perhaps the tone of responses tell a story.
Jules if he wanted a bigger payday had to have a big role. On a team that adding more talent that would be difficult.
He had no limitations but a 15% kicker which was under 5mil I believe. His fit for Minny? Not our problem. Given his contract we did a bit of over pay to move him but Knicks were ready to move on and randle could have walked for nothing so we got value back.
Jules was really ok to play some 5? or just saying the right thing?
Maybe we can put some of the CAA stuff to be as he came back to CAA and fans thought he'd do a discount and stay. Nope, he got a Sketchers deal and has to be cool with all his public displays. Thus, he'll be peachy in Minny and perhaps they extend him? Thats a good team he is on.

As for DDV coming off the bench? Not sure why that would be an issue with 3 years left on his contract and he playing with his buds vying for a chip. Many things can happen in 3 years so I doubt that was an issue. He was not paid starter money. Knicks gave him a nice deal and a great opportunity.

Not sure we can really do the "Well they were not happy so its for the best"....or "good riddance". This trade will be judged by the season(s) and their outcomes.
DDV can be an Allstar but if knicks win a chip its all good!!!!

Minny vs. NY final!!!! Good drama. That happens both teams won the trade.

I agree with Hahn that if you finish top 4 you had a damn good season! Do it for a few years it can be frustrating to be knocking on the door.

The Knicks probably did a solid for Donte. He took his 12mm contract and outplayed it last year. If he was a free agent this year he would be a 25-30mm player. But if we cut his minutes down to 20 it would have lowered his value. The role in Minnesota is probably better for his future earnings potential. Donte is not the type to complain, but I'm sure his agents were in the Knicks FO years when he got made the 7th man when he was the no.2 or 3 option for so much of last year.
