Knicks are center hunting... KAT, Kessler, Sengun, who else? Randle could be, of course, at the center of all of this

This is way too much of the Knicks beat chit-chatting about stuff. Leon and Knicks don't usually do this. Something is up.

These reporters don't usually have access like this

My assumption is that the Knicks have convinced themselves that a lineup having a spacing center would be in line with or a positive net benefit across offense/rim protection that having a non elite rim protector who REALLY opens the court would be AOK with Knicks.

Brunson, DDV, Mikal, OG, Sengun/KAT. Less bench

Or

Brunson Mikal, OG, Randle, low cost center. Stout bench

That's my baseline.

They also need to create a market for several players, thus the noise. I wouldn't also be surprised if this was to feel out what Randle wants and make decisions after that.

IMHO something big will cook with Houston. They want to win and Randle/Mitch would fit AND they are trying to keep eye on Durant.

Would rather keep Randle & Mitch than take on KAT.. Jaren Jackson Jr would be my choice if available.

Reposting this here:
I threw this out there a long time ago not as a prediction but just a convo thing. There is a logic and Salary wise it sort of makes sense. I love Jules but we need a center. KAT can play center. Kat can play with Mitch. I think Minny saves money until Jules needs to be resigned, and Jules might be a better fit next to Rudy upfront.
Im not Brock Aller but There is a 20mm difference in salary which I don't understand how knicks get this done if its even a thing? Thats a big number and that contract KAT has is ****ing massive! Given the way of salary in a few years it might not be so bad but even still, it taps out in 4 years at 61mm player option when he is 32. Jules is two time All NBA player now and if he has a really good season he will want big money also. Im not saying who has or will pay him.
Both are CAA. KAT from Jersey. Karl melts in the spotlight a bit and the lights are hot in MSG. But, the talent and type of talent is there and players can get mentally tougher with age. Its not like Jules is without his foibles either.
In my mind Bridges is a 3, not a two and OG as he thickens with age is a 4. Funny, OG is the evolution of Charles Oakley!
I can't speak for what Randle wants on or off the court as to the money or is he concerned about less touches with Mikal on the floor and thus his earning capacity diminished? At the same time signing a reasonable contract on a really good team can prolong ones career and be very enjoyable. Thats on him to decide. As the video says he has yet to sign an extension. I can't fathom the market for him. Same for KAT.
Easier trade? Rudy for Randle. Not by much, He makes 43mm vs KAT 49 this coming year. Randle and Mitch gets you there.
I would think there is not a lot of fans on the surface gonna like that idea. Despite him being French, isn't Rudy a Thibian kind of center? Stays pretty healthy? Minny slides KAT to the 5 with Mitch as back up. They are still have Naz Reid or him as a trade chip for picks or round out that roster. I think this makes Minny a better team. I think knicks are very complete starting 5 with Rudy, OG, Mikal, DDV and Brunson. We get thin after that. That gives me hesitancy but this is where "culture" starts to build out. This is how Miami has stayed compeetive coming up with inexpensive players and Boston won a chip this year.

Are you implying that the Knicks org are putting these rumors out to gage how Randle would respond??

IMO...This rumor, from pundits, that Knicks want to mimic Boston's model is absurd considering that KP only played in like 5 playoff games.

He was pretty much a non-factor.

I see the most opportunity with Houston on both sides.

Great thread. Segun is a new name in the mix.
Berman back on it?

Jaren Jackson contract is now reasonable. Hell of a player. he has the height to play the 5 but not durable, and more of a shot blocking weak side shot blocker?

Duren/Duren? Pistons still have Isiah Stewart also.

It was enough to win 63 games and a chip. I think the "Model" is the 5 and out were all players can shoot form the outside.

I know little about Rockets. Sengun on. rookie deal. Randle/Mitch is 43mil. Can rockets that that after Sengun? Who comes back with Sengun. Me loves saying "SenGOON"........

Segun is a hell of a player. If the FO can pull him for a reasonable trade, that's a coup. Very skilled big.

Would not be shocked if deal centered around Randle/Mitch for Towns is already in place and just waiting for Julius extension date (8/3?) to announce.

Me personally if we got Kat ---- I would (re-sign) and put Precious next to him at the 4 and use other assets to find a legit back-up 5 (ex. Kessler)
Kat/Jalen surrounded by 3 elite defenders and 2 of the 3 are elite 3 point shooters. Still leaves Donte firepower coming off the bench.

Kat
Precious
OG
Mikal
Brunson

Rather than multiple first rounders for Kessler or a massive trade for KAT, I'm making a run at Naz Reid. Can play the 4 or 5 and over 40% from 3. S&T with Precious & Deuce with a FRP could do it. There are still a bunch of Free Agent point guards available who can be had on potential Vet Min type deals. Lowry, Beverly, Mills, Payne etc.

I would imagine we know what Randle wants. his CAA agent I'd think would have communicated the number. Question is what was Leons response. I doubt this this plays out in public and if so, being a bit early on it.
Leon really does not float much previously.
Seems media is implying Randle as trade potential given the lack of extension. For that matter Brunson has not either.
Its logical they wait and finish other business. If Leon is to make a big move obviously Randle is the obvious chip given the many aspects discussed but mostly salary implications.
That Kolek contract is interesting. Not sure how though.
Duece's and the timing of it was as well. Again, not sure how.
See how the summer plays out and how it aided any trade scenario.
A lot goes on in Vegas for summer league.

Towns no longer fits the teams needs. We need a playmaker if we are to trade Randle. Towns is not that. We can not go into the season with Brunson being the only major playmaker again. We saw how teams will overplay him to kill our offense once the playoffs starts.

I think the vision for the Knicks with someone like KAT is offensively bonkers though and they would value that tremendously. I would start by saying I am guessing at what role KAT would fill; I thought he could be an offensive hub on his own without Brunson but am not familiar enough with his play.

The PnR with Brunson/KAT with DDV, Mikal, OG on the perimeter is not stoppable. It's a dream wing lineup - cutters, defenders, 3point shooters - with 2 offensive savants around them who are also deadly 3point shooters themselves.

agree... it's even more balanced with the top shelf wings and makes it even easier for a guy like Mitch or whoever else we add to be a role player.

IHart's passing only happened because he got Randle's touches when they run it through the high post. That was not happening this year with Jules back.

Jules is in a walk year at $30mm when kids who have never won a playoff game are getting $50mm a year. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Personally I am in favor of what it takes to keep Brunson/Bridges/OG/Randle together for the next 5 years cause I think they compete for a title and that's worth the apron taxes etc

Sengun came up in the Durant discussions. Only place I have seen it. My conclusion was he is available, even if Houston only dangled him for Durant. Green and Sengun get paid next year. Houston has decisions to make.

I 100% agree. And I don't think he's worth his contract.
