As we have seen, Thibs has not been shy in making changes early in the year.

What does everyone see as the biggest question/change to be made early on.

Some questions I am looking at are;

Will Grimes stay as the starter.
Go to closing lineup early.
Who we use as PF backup. My long shot guess is Simms.
How IQs minutes change.
How good is DV.

Whos taking the 10th spot (Sims, McBride, Roby, EF, etc...)

1. Brunson
2. Grimes
3. RJ
4. Jules
5. Mitch
6. IQ
7. J.Hart
8. DDV
9. iHart
10. EF, Sims, Roby, etc....

Jhart did fine at PF last year in spots and in Summer FIBA. Some matches.
Thibs is gushing about Sims so I assume he gets a good look in the rotation.
At the same time its been reported nothing said about Robey might be indicative of him not making the team.
RJ off the bench? LOL, maybe after Long summer with FIBA he gets some chill time? Same for Brunson.
Curious what shape Jules is in.
Does Mitch have that offense and will Thibs allow it?

Real competition for SG minutes. Evan can still "Fucking play"! I dig the spunk and he coming to show it!
Good for him, good for Knicks. I hope he kicks ass! He might be good trade bait!!

COVID cases will probably rise over the fall and winter. I guess there's still hope that Evan will see court time with the Knicks.

How good is DDV. Is the question I am most interested in right now. So many seem really high on him

How will IQ and Randle respond to disappointing performances in the playoffs?

IMHO, IQ is our starting SG.
Will give Grimes more opportunity to get things going and expand his offense on the second unit
Also feel, IQ is not a true PG and units have no flow when he is the PG.

May never happen, but it makes sense to me too. I've had the same thoughts.

Curious to read why you think that?

Believe the first unit needs someone to create off the catch
Grimes has not been able to do that.
Believe first unit needs a SG who is not afraid to put up shots.
IQ is much more aggressive and not afraid despite having starters on floor. .
We have already seen IQ in with the first unit to end many games.

Would like to see it because if you look at the top teams, their offensive success comes from having multiple guys who can catch, make a three but also drive on rotating defenses. They have a constant mechanism in place of drive, kick, rotate until they get an open look. IQ fits much better in that mold than Grimes

However, also think it will be predicated on two things. Whether IQ gets an extension from the Knicks. (Hard to see the Knicks commit that kind of money to a bench player.) And whether or not Grimes breaks out this year. Love the kid, but have not seen him improve the things, I feel, will allow him to do so.

I think we discount how good Miami was given their regular season record and in that time they were second in the league with players losing time/games due to injury.
They had a string of success in the two years prior and we forget this.
Reminds me of the strike short season in 1999 when we went to finals as an 8 seed. Fact was that team was damn good and if we went 82 games instead of 56 they might have come out with a much better seed. That team was under
Achieving big time and JVG was on his way out. Only an improbable clause in his contract that gave him a two year extension at elite money enabled him to continue. Instead Earnie was fired. In todays world you don’t keep a coach wrong for a roster. teams eat the money.

Jules had a bad ATL series. One. Last year he was hurt. Now he is framed as an playoff underachiever.

he's a solid role player, nothing more nothing less.

To me we'll see early on if RJ has taken another step. I expect him to come in more confident, better shot selection and reading collapsing defenses better.

That's my feeling as well. Based on what I've seen I'm hoping he becomes a volume shooter and is accurate. I think that'd be really good. I think fans might be overrating him as a defender, ball handler, and playmaker but I haven't seen a lot of DDV so I'm open-minded to him fitting here and being better than I thought doing other things

How will we handle the tough schedule to start? Will Thibs lose his voice amid the losing? Remember it's year five and coaches like Thibs eventually get tuned out and ignored. I can see a scenario where we start off like 6-14 or 7-13 and Ross get's pressured into firing Thibs and making a change.

It could be interesting to see if IQ takes the starting SG spot. I mean having a 2nd ballhandler out there who can also create could be beneficial. We don't lose much shooting or defense either. I'm high on Grimes but I want to see some aggressive on offense instead of just always waiting for an open shot.

Really hope we extend IQ. dont want to start the season with IQ playing for a contract, wanting to start...etc...

Grimes was much more engaged and played better with the second unit. The problem is if IQ starts, who is your backup PG and who scores on that unit? Deuce doesn't look like more than a 3rd string PG

It's wild to me how pessimistic you are about everything.

BTW, this is the start of the 4th year for Thibs and FO.

The Knicks franchise is in the best hands from both the FO and coaching level that they have had in years. And it has shown by their play and continuity over the past seasons.

Enjoy it man. Our team is actually very very good and is also very very well run.
