Interesting timing. Don't think it's for Myers, though. Idk if Rose would want a guy that may be higher profile than him. Could be wrong though. Letting Perry go though, pretty much cuts the ties that they have to develop/prove the players he bought in.

The first question Myers would probably ask is how much of a free hand he'll have to reshape the roster. It was reported (and confirmed by 2 sources) that Perry wanted Derozan, but Thibs wanted Fournier. I doubt Myers would want to work under the same conditions, with Thibs having more say than he does.

Rose avoids the spotlight, not a publicity hound. I believe it will come down to how much power Rose would be willing to cede to Myers. No point in hiring him, if he isn't allowed to build the roster as he sees fit.

Thanks to Scott Perry for making the Knicks a much more disciplined franchise. Before Perry it was quick fixes, bloated contracts, few picks. Not much homegrown talent.

Gerson Rosas was well thought of as GM of Timberwolves but his extra marital affair derailed him there. He has been employed for well over a year now.
We all saw Perry who was hired by Mills as perhaps someone who would transition. Knicks resigned him 3 years ago when Leon came aboard?
Allan Houstan has been assistant for some time and perhaps he is being promoted.
Perry was spoken about in an article or opinion piece for the Wizards job. Curious if he is being phased out or has been and this is all been in the works for some time. Other than Myers is anyone else in play? Retiring? Or on the “hot seat”?
Perry could have medical issues and step away from the grind? Or he is looking to run a team on his own.

Things got better with him employed here over 6 years. Mistakes and perhaps disagreements are part of all teams process.

Better not be dumping Perry for the guy whose biggest accomplishment is inheriting Steph Curry and Klay Thompson

Surprised people are mentioning Myers. He’s not replacing Perry. He would replace Rose, which isn’t happening. It’s likely the front office is just consolidating and promoting from within. Perry wasn’t bad. He had some bad habits of going after his own crappy players but otherwise he did a solid job.

Perry lost me with the Fournier signing. I know some of you touted him for his 3 point prowess and that’s good and all, but his weaknesses on defense, the matador defense, were obvious. Now, I was advocating for Kelly Oubre and his 3 point didn’t improve the way I thought it would, so from the perspective of adding 3point shooting, I wouldn’t have been any better. Note, I would keep an eye on Oubre again this offseason. But don’t expect him to solve the 3 point issues.

From the outside it is hard to tell who makes what decisions. But the draft day trades have been quite good and I think Brock Aller should have a leg up on the position.

I’m not defending Perry, as I thought he left some to be desired. That said, I am surprised by this. The franchise has been super stable. I doubt FAs care shot front office stability as much as the rest, but I kinda thought they would run it back one more time

Beat writers said this was not unexpected and that the Knicks already signed his replacement a long time ago. It is looking like Gerson Rosas was signed for when Perry left. It makes sense since it was Rosas who was doing the actual negotiations for Donovan. For him to be given something so important means he has a big role and the trust of Rose.

there are so many voices in the knicks organization its hard to pin point who is to take blame or glory.
He came in 2017 and had to clean up the Melo mess inherited. Then the KP thing,
At the end of the day he was the adult in the room that was part of a transition to a good FO.
We have WWW, leon, H20, Perrin, Aller, and Rosas all in the C-suite making decisions. He was extended for two years to smooth a nice transition. he was part of the process that has knicks with picks, yoot, prospects, and two nice seedings. Before it was a **** show.

Can’t say why this is all happening but while he was not prefect, we simply don’t know who and how the good and bad picks occured.
He drafted Mitchell and had a good relationship with his agent. If you flipped those picks around and Mitchell was taken in the first round we’d be happy.

Myers? 11 years and 4 chips? All great execs have great players. he is not even 50 yet and has killed it. He dealt with draymond and many issues. Is he bailing? Is he burnt out? Does he have other aspirations?

Not sure why we tilt towards trying to only bring the bad out these guys have done. Myers will be fine. Perry will be fine.
MY guess is Rosas. Aller is a numbers guy but is he a talent guy? GM’s also do a lot of other things besides comb over talent.
The over see communications, travel, hotels, food, etc. But as said, many voices and who does what is not disclosed.

To go with whiffs like Knox, Fizdale, and Fournier - we have Brunson, the Harts, IQ, Grimes, Mitch, reasonable contracts and draft assets. And yes Randle and Thibs. And for what it’s worth no crazy trades for Donovan Mitchell and the like and good ones like the KP one. We live in a different Knicks World than before under his watch. Tip o’ the Knicks cap.

I think Perry was the GM in title. I never got the sense he had final say in decisions once Rose took over but he was responsible for Knox which was one of the worst lotto picks in history so I'm not sad to see him gone tbh.

Expecting Rose to promote Perrin or Aller.

4 rings in a decade plus worth of work. 6 finals appearances. Both of those guys were nowhere near where they are now.

Gerson Rosas had a prior relationship with the counterpart in Utah, that's the reason he was given the role he had in that negotiation. This is a common thing to employ when possible.

Perry was at the end of his contract.

I dont understand the thinking behind the second bolded part, it doesn't make sense to me.

There were rumors of the Kings being interested in Perry years ago. The Wizards were also rumored to be interested in Perry this season. Those positions appear to be locked up for the time being, but I think it shows that Perry's brand is still in decent standing around the league.

Fizdale wanted Knox. He was the hottest young coach in the league at the time. The FO let Fizdale draft the player he wanted.

Thibs wanted Fournier. Perry wanted Derozan. As some reports have suggested, Perry was having less and less say in personnel decisions.

Would have liked to have seen what Perry would have done with a free hand.

check his career; it's been dismal. One bad franchise after another including the Knicks before Rose brought some discipline and common sense. and one bad draft pick after another. Whenever this is brought up people try to defend that somehow he is/was not responsible for the picks that actually happened, and then in the next breath want to refer to rumors of people he wanted but never got -- which if you really think about it is nuts

this is the first I'm hearing about Perry wanting Derozan but i have two reactions to that. 1) the fact that we didn't get Derozan could be a reflection that Perry's opinion was less and less respected over time. He also wanted KD; does that make him a genius? 2) Fournier clearly didn't work out (same with Kemba) but that doesn't mean those were bad ideas at the time they were made. Knicks wanted shooting and got it. That said Fournier's chemistry on court and defense became too much of an issue.
