Obi shown too much when he starts to accept role player status and money. I personally don’t care what Dolan spends but grimes iq and obi are gonna want to be paid. I think grimes and iq are locks to be paid but obi has a problem because we already have randle

You make a good argument to wait one more year and see what the market price is for Obi. He really needs to figure to atleast not be a liability on D if he wants more than spare change minutes. I hope he can figure it out but he’s really only got one more year to do it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Obi quietly backchannels a trade request. You can see how much he wanted to contribute on the offensive end in this last game. Obi’s biggest value is probably as a trade asset. We are going to need some cap management going forward. Unfortunately Obi, as popular as he might be, is going to be a cap casualty because he is so easily replaced

to me, the weird thing is Obi produces with minutes, but in limited time, he can't seem to impact the game.

I get rhythm and that sort of thing. But if Randle or Jalen or Hart played a similar short time, they would impact the game.

I love Obi, but maybe the best outcome for both parties is bundling him in the off season- package him, Fournier and some draft picks, including Dallas's- for some nice impact wing player.

Wonder with Obi’s improvement from 3 with a legit/quick stoke —- if maybe the Knicks could push for him to play some 3.

Obi’s problem is he only balls out when the games are loose and don’t matter. He’s like a pickup player.

Maybe an Obi and a couple of second rounders for Devin Vessel swap in the offseason works for both teams. Fills a need for us depending on where the spurs land in draft.

I would love Vassell but he’s worth way more than that.

I've always felt like Charlotte with LaMelo Ball would be the perfect fit. And with Mark Williams as your starting C, those 2 guys may at least compliment each other too?

Isn't Jordan trying to sell his portion of ownership? Could be a good attendance booster in the very least with Ball and Obi running.

No idea if Hornets have anything to give up besides Bridges quite frankly.

I like Obi and think he’s a good player with a good demeanor and likable personality. He definitely deserves more. More time and more money. He came in as a rim running dunker. Now he added a 3pt corner badge to his repertoire. He definitely improved but so did Randle who’s our 2x all star PF. If Obi had the agility of Roby, he would be more valuable for us. But since the only position thibs plays Obi is PF, we should move him for a player that understands their role and impacts the game with minimal mins at a cheaper price tag.

the bold has clearly blinded you to how simply below average Obi has been. I like him too. He hasnt been good here. He didnt "add" a 3 point shot. He was regarded as a top pick because he dunked everything in college AND shot the 3 (and took a bunch) at over 41%

He has not gotten better here in 3 years, that is the bottom line. I keep reading stuff like "Obi deserves" and I just dont get why. Cause we like him? He's great with fans?

That's the hard part about building with youth... some of these kids aint gonna make it.

It will be hard to keep Obi at this point. We can't/won't offer him the role that maximizes him and therefore won't pay him as much as someone who does want to project him.

There are varying opinions on him, but he's almost the polar opposite type of power forward from Randle and that's what makes him such a difficult player to slot in behind Randle. Its not a like for like change, its a different style of play. But you can see how when he's out there with guys like Hart, Grimes, Quickley, Hartenstein that like to create turnovers and pass the ball, how he is a weapon as a guy who can run the floor and finish. Then his energy level is up and he's hustling on defense. When he's out there with ISO players like Barrett or even Brunson, he's just standing in the corner shooting 3s and can look lost.

Money players are there to finish games and produce even if iso.
Is this a true statement or not?
If so, then look across the players with big contracts and skill sets.
They are “finishers”. Can shoot, dribble, penetrate, play defense, rebound.
Brunson defense is not great but he his not a max player.
Randle is an allstar but not top tier consistent.
Obi is an NBA player but what is he? If another team wants him they can come get him via trade this year, or as a restricted FA. Most likeley its in his best interests to get traded to a team. CLT likey has Miles Bridges returning next season. Can’t speak for other teams.

Since we always have to talk about RJ, its my opinion the knicks are developing RJ into a finisher. FT% is improved, his inside the paint game is improved, stronger to the rim im proved, gets to the line more improved, he is doing more with the ball and thus his TO’s are worse. His 3pt shooting is worse.
Some fans think he won’t get better. Im not here to say it will or won’t. He has a contract, FO and coaches see whats good and whats not, and it will be what it is. Knicks committed to him.
Now its Obi’s turn to see whats up. He makes 8mil next year. Does he get a 2 year extension at say 10mil?
If his market value is higher, knicks pay him more or trade him. Simple.

HE should want out but whats waiting for him among 29 other teams? Fans don’t have much experience with resigning rookies since Charlie Ward. We did Mitch well and extended RJ. Both still young. Very young.

Then there is IQ who has come on very strong 2/3rds of this year. He is trending very well in year three. Grimes same in year 2!

Its not what I think Obi or Iq’s value is that matters. Its the 29 other teams that will make up their market.

this is the answer. He's not gonna be worse on D than RJ, he spreads the floor and now can run and not worry about the rebounding

I think 12-14m per year is good enough for him. If he dosen't take it then oh well gg go next. He's the ideal backup for JR and fits well here in NY.

Haven't they tried playing Obi and Randle together? As bad as RJ is on D he is not a total liability like Obi. Unless our coach gets brain surgery in the offseason, we will never be that team that scores 138 points every night and plays no D.
