Last season at this time most of us wanted Julius gone. However, Julius went to work and humbly confronted his faults and came back a better teammate and playing better team ball. RJ has the talent and physical gifts to be a valuable third or four player. I think IQ or Grimes may become the third option but if RJ can be a consistent two way player, he can be the piece the team needs, if he takes that step up. What needs to happen to help him improve love to see him be the MIP next season

He's actually came out of All-Star weekend super focused on playing winning basketball.

Previous 4 Games Since his All-Star break:
26.7 Minutes.
16.0 Points.
3.7 Rebounds.
3.2 Assists.
FG = 22/48 (.458%).
3PT = 8/14 (.571%).
+/- of +32 (+8.0 PG).
4-0 (undefeated).

These are nothing except box score numbers but it's his defensive Energy and Defensive effort that doesn't show up on his box score.

R.J. Barrett is only 22 years old and his Coach believes in him; I'm proud of this kid.

Something from the Post article on the front page...

But Barrett still has given the team a third 20-point scorer (20.1 ppg) since Dec. 4, with a 44.4/37.0/73.0 slash.
Grimes is contributing 11.5 points on average over that stretch (44.7/37.1/80.0), including 6-for-9 from long range and 22 points Wednesday against Brooklyn. Sixth man Immanuel Quickley also has played in all but one of the past 41 games, netting 14.6 points per appearance while shooting 46.1/38.0/80.6.

For all the **** Barrett is getting, and all the praise IQ and Grimes are getting about their shooting....All 3 players are shooting are pretty close percentage wise. Not saying it to be a schmuck, but it really surprised me they were so close.

Barrett will never be MIP because his counting stats won’t be different than they are now. The issue he’s had this year is he is behind 2 guys who are combining for 50 ppg. Elite 1-2 offensive punch. And then those 2 (Brunson and Randle) are surrounded by very good role players. Barrett is stuck in no-man’s land of not being a star and not adjusting to a role around stars. The hope is he learns and develops into a Wiggins type. But he is struggling to be the third guy on a team that has had 2 guys running the show.

This I agree with. Last year Barrett was top 2 on this team. He has been squeezed out with Brunson (both Brunson and Randle are obviously better). Even at his best I don't think Barett puts up the same gaudy numbers as Randle or Brunson even if he was a top option. I have always viewed his ceiling as a 25, 6, 3 with about average shooting percentages guy that was a good defender. I thought his contributions were going to mainly come from his leadership (he struck me as a future captain-not best player-but captain). He will make a clutch play. There are alot of intangibles I think RJ has that are very similiar to Brunson.

RJ is build for this. This we been told. Good looking kid, composed, and inconspicuous in many ways. he keeps his cool, got clutch in him and very polished since he came to us at age 19.
Likable young man.
I enjoy so many who offer what he needs to be, work on, what his mental state is, and can diagnose his problems.

I offer this:
Kid needs to be meaner. Needs to be a motherphucher out there. Next year, find the toughest player in the NBA, and just kick his ass. Find one in every city and wreck them one by one. Kick them in the balls and get ejected.
If he has a nice girl, he needs to get drunk and cheat on her. Then hit her. He can feel bad, but not let anyone know.
I read his parents are educated and really nice. He needs to burn down their home with the family dog in it.
And not care.
Greed, selfishness, and the sociopathic ways of Kobe and Jordan. he needs to drive recklessly in his car and crash the car, like JR Smith. Killed his best friend and walks away. Had to pay money.
Beat his girl, get some cartoon tats. Maybe matching ones with said girl.
The maple Mamba needs to sleep with his best friends mother and make the friends father watch.
He needs to old truck that polutes, and he don’t care. He needs to spend off season Dirt biking in south america with new cartel buddies. He needs his own brand of weed.
Show up late to practice, perhaps also to training camp. If you break your hand and not tell anyone, just tell them anyway and eat the suspension.
RJ needs to take a gun to the airport and get caught.
RJ should do an interview and say he thinks ZIon is fat ***** who eats and smiles too much. If asked about Reddish just reply “soft”……
If Coach K tries to straighten him out, he should hit him too.
RJ needs to send dick pic to Rebecca Haarlow. If questioned about it he can say Martin hacked his phone. Nobody seeing the picks would believe it. RJ knows this. RJ won’t care.
RJ needs to smoke cigarettes. In public.
He won’t choke Thibs, But he’ll choke Dolan. Dolan will like it.
RJ needs to impregnate half the Knicks city dancers. He won’t deny it.
When he goes to vegas with Oak, he comes home alone.
RJ will end Draymonds career. RJ will become a prolific funk bass player and grow dreads.

Then, RJ will be a top5 player in the league!

I saw this article too and was surprised to see RJ’s percentages in the last 41 games essentially equal to the much loved IQ and Grimes. And averaging 20 points a game. Not saying there aren’t other issues such as consistency on defense, but it is interesting.

Since Randle is balling everyone just needs a new outlet and RJ is the punching bag for the year. Every year it has to be someone. It should be Obi but he’s too much of a fan favorite like Ntilikina was. And I’m not saying RJ concerns aren’t warranted, they are just overblown because everyone is hyper aware of when he does something wrong, myself included.

Excellent way to put it. I tried to convey this feeling in another thread in a not so eloquent way. Well played.

I'm so glad 50 games into the season that's the direction RJ is taking. Someone insert a green check box

Everyone wants to see the same.. better handle, some passing, better defensive effort, more boxing out and less ball watching. Basically all the things we have watched IQ improve on in 3 years.

I like that RJ isnt trash. He brings some things to the table. I have pretty high confidence in this FO to correctly gauge if he's worth waiting on or try to upgrade or move for a lateral trade but possibly better fit.

how is the bold "an issue" as it's certainly not stopping RJ from getting almost as many shots as those two. They just dont go in as often

Honestly, I just want him to be more consistent defensively and get a consistent shot. If he aint an all star thats ok but theres no reason why he can't mold himself into a super high level role player.

Worth seeing again twice.

Its the intersection of the bogeyman syndrome and confirmation bias, which in turn accelerate one another into circular logic out of control.

Parroting the negative does taint.
Pointing to worst moments does magnify the bad.
All this, and 7-0!!!! No doubt JHart has been a big part of it, but its a team game.
Mitch has mattered also.
Jules has been incredible!
Narratives or aggregates?

It’s only an issue for people who think Barrett can ever be a MIP. Not an issue other than in that context.

RJ is both sneaky good and sneaky bad.
He never got the accolades of rising stars.
This year his bashing is a bit over rated.
His 1099 is ok though.
The Maple Mamba will have an interesting summer.

There’s no question it would have to be considered, and same with RJ for LeVine, but it’s not a sure thing.
