I'd guess limited TO's and rebounding in general also contribute as well as some weirdly hidden floater stat.

Today, Randle and 3s go together like blue and orange. They’re on opposite sides of the color wheel but you can’t imagine a Knicks game without them. And it’s not just Bryant who is emboldening Randle to take as many as he can. This comes from the top.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau has pushed the team to adjust its shot selection, a mission that required Randle’s participation. Thibodeau commonly refers to “the value of shots,” explaining that he wants as many 3s, layups, dunks and free throws as possible. The Knicks now own one of the more analytically-friendly shot profiles. Less than five percent of their field-goal attempts this season are long 2s, the seventh-smallest rate in the NBA.

The strategy is working, too. The offense has steadily outplayed expectations all season, rising all the way to seventh in points per possession.

It's great. Might run into problems in the playoffs tho. Defenses will be more sturdy. We are bottom of the league in assists and thats where the easy points are. Assisted field goals are harder to stop as well. No one can ourrun the ball to paraphrase Clyde.

That guy DJ got it wrong.

We're the NBA's 6th highest Offensive Rating (not 7th, but 6th highest overall).

#1.) 2022-2023 = Offensive Rating of 116.7.
#2.) 2012-2013 = Offensive Rating of 111.1
#2.) 1988-1989 = Offensive Rating of 111.1.

Our Knicks of 2022-2023 now have the Highest Offensive Rating within NYK HISTORY (ever).

PS:

Knicks are 6th Points Per Possession which is the reason how and/or why we're 6th in Offensive Rating (and also 3rd best in Offensive Turnover Percentage).

Nonetheless for everyone who's claimed Coach Thibs couldn't and wouldn't evolve on the Offensive side of the Court? I'd like to have a 2022-2023 conversation with them (now that Thibs has his hands all over an elite PG for the 1st time since arriving in NY and not even a full 3 years ago).

It's why I've barely ever complained about the refs this year outside of when we've played Joel Embiid because our trio of RJ/Brunson/Randle are getting the NBA calls @ 18.3 FTA's per game (combined).

And that's pretty wild when you consider how established trios of Tatum/Brown/Smart only = 15.8 FTA's combined and/or even the dang LAKERS are only @ 18.6 FTA's per game (almost identical to NY's). 1 more. Poole/Klay/Curry = only 12.1 FTA's per game.

I can't complain.

Is it possible we can get Kevin Love. That would be the 1st true shooter we've had in a long time. Combing him with JR, and Brunson would give us a definite triple scoring threat.

I'll never forget that in the best season the KNicks have had since the Ewing days they were first in fewest turnovers.

In shorter words, Jason Kidd.

Last year 27th, year before 10th.

TOs in an underappreciated stat.

Good news- Robinson's minutes have been a lock for a top 10 defense all season as well. Much love to Sims for filling in the past month but I'm betting we're going to be seeing some monster 1st quarters the rest of the way.

Low turnovers and high FT attempts are a great recipe for winning. Even moreso than 3s which can be more variable. Get high pct points, dont give away free points.

Score more points than your opponent. Its old school analytics but 100% success ratio every time.
Two ways to do this actually. Y’all minds are gonna blow:

1. Hold opponent to less point total then your team. Or……
2. Offensive output is greater than opposing team!

This. Now we just need to create offensive sets that generate these shots versus relying on the iso set to create them.

This. Now we just need to create offensive sets that generate these shots versus relying on the iso set to create them.


This. I think that's the biggest challenge and if Thibs can accomplish that we can go further in the playoffs. Our guys would get easier opportunities and would have more energy in the fourth where ISO is sometimes is still needed. But at that point the opposing team should be more tired and ISO would be easier to pull off
