I know it may seem less logical to not ride Randle's improved play this year and go for the playoffs but still think this could be the last (good) opportunity to sell high on Randle and use the rest of the season to decide on IQ, Obi, Sims and even Cam. While the FO may be content making the playoffs (even if early exit) I still see this path as short-sighted to some degree.

If Randle flames out in the playoffs again - there will be more pressure to move him and yet his trade value will decline again (like the last time).

If I'm wrong and he plays well we are still not realistically strong enough to beat the upper echelon teams in a 7 games series.

I'd even be open to trying to rebuild our roster with Randle but then feel strongly that Thibs has to go for it to work. I get this is an unpopular take and likely not realistic but does anyone agree with the position that something out of Randle, Thibs and RJ has to move or change for us to healthily progress to next level (even if not likely to happen)?

Remember the 1990's when we made the playoffs every single year (x10) being led by Patrick Ewing?

Well.

Make the Playoffs this year and it'll be 2/3 Playoff appearances throughout the 2020's (2020-2021 and 2022-2023).

Long story short?

Heck no!

Julius Randle is becoming an elite All-NBA All-Star type of Superstar @ PF and should be here for the next 5+ years because this PG/PF duo of Jalen Brunson/Julius Randle is becoming one of the most electric/dominant/exciting/fun/dynamic tandems within the entire NBA.

Both of Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle can lead us to an NBA Championship as long as everyone else buys in and continues to improve.

Julius Randle has earned his opportunity to stay an NYK long-term and is the best overall Knick since both Patrick Ewing/Carmelo Anthony (still in his prime too)

Tonight @ Boston Celtics (#1 Record within the entire NBA) and Brunson/Randle went out there and combined for 66 Points, 13 Rebounds, 9 Assists and off of 25/50 from the field too (.500%).

But yet we've still got fans talking about "trading away" an All-Star PF?!?

It's just my opinion;

But it's mind boggling.

I know you were away for a while -- but not that long ago it was all some talked about. I think it became an OCD thing that's still hard to let go of. Anyway, this FO isn't trading him, just ain't happening.

Trade Randle for what ? You don’t get worse for no reason. This team has Brunson, Barrett etc. this group is beyond any type of tear down and moving Randle is that.

Other problem with this plan- Knicks already have a surplus of draft picks. The downside to that is a situation like the past draft when OKC traded multiple picks to move up a few spots to the Knicks. Adding 2 new guys a year is about the limit for competitive teams. Boston's stash of picks pretty much was a bust. As is the Knicks are set to have a solid infusion of cost controlled contracts for the rest of the decade. If a team wants to keep a player, it's pretty much impossible for him to leave during the first 7 years of his career.

Anyway, not really sure what.the rush is on your end. Let's give 2 more seasons to the current core and then we can discuss it. Brunson is the best player Randle has paired with here. Let's watch them fail to make the playoffs and lose a few times before you make any predictions.

FLamed out again? We talking the 4th seed in a short season with ATL just a game behind us and had been playiing real good ball? Who likely if there was another 10 games left would have surpassed us? There was a few teams bunched in with us and we had a nice finish to get that 4th spot but anyone really watching that understood we had big problems with Elf and the PG spot.
And if Knicks make playoffs, and Randle is our best player and we lose it no doubt falls on him.
One must lay out a trade scenario that makes sense. How do knicks get better by trading him? Lose more, higher draft picks? Does that player for certain ascend to to be better than Randle or just conceptual?
No guarantees in sports. Not with Randle, not without.
Me, I loved last night winning in boston!

Do I love everything about our game these days? No. Grimes was awful down the stretch last night but the defense was good. Sims had a great block, Brunson over dribbled, but he gets a block at games end.
Jaylen Brown choked. RJ did not. RJ was missing everything but not that Three. ALl star Jaylen Brown choked two FT’s that could have sealed it. RJ did.

We let that game go in Regulation but snatched it back in OT.

I know, none of this matters if you don’t win playoffs………..Shit, that itself is no guarantee either.

The only player I would consider untradeable is Brunson. Not just his play. Was the first legit PG in many, many, years to go against the tide, and sign with NY. Believe the org, the fans owe him that, beyond the contract.

Not hyperventilating about anyone else being traded for the right price, the right player(s)

I wrote earlier in the season that if Randle is to be traded, it should be after he gets his game back. Was playing poorly at the time. No fire sale. Well, Randle upped his trade value. But he still has trouble closing games. What to do? Depends on the proposed trade.

If Davis gets hurt again, Lakers playoff run is stalled, I would be in favor of a trade that brings LeBron to NY. Im over "the decision". Having James bring us a title at this stage in his career woud be special. It would involve waiting until the offseason. James would attract some good players who will be willing to take less for the chance at a ring in NY with LeBron. That would make them legendary in NY, and they know it

To answer the OP's question, depends on the deal. If we were to add an All-Star without trading Randle, and gutting the roster, Im for that as well.

For sure Randle is not untouchable.
The devil in the detail is not if SGA would be a good acquisition, but what is the team with him?
Change path?
The path is gonna be the path. Have fun along the way, win more each year, know not every team can win, and this roster as we know it won’t be the won that wins a chip. The path might is unpredictable.
That makes it frustrating for fans, but its also what makes it fun to follow.

I don't believe Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is mentally tough enough to endure this NY Media.

Julius Randle is proven to be NY TOUGH with (already) 2 All-Star caliber years as a Knick.

Trade Randle for what? For Jae Crowder or Hayward? Sorry but that's stupid.

I'm only trading Randle for a better player and like it or not, there aren't many who are playing better then him this season. And chances are none are available and you'll have to attach assets too. Whatever Randle has done and changed from last season is working. I think our best bet is to keep him and hope it continues. Trading him for a lesser salary and lesser player/s is always going to be there. But right now simply trading him for whatever is stupid.
