With all being good in knick land, this is a really nice thing to also have the ability to get a lottery pick that’s not ours. That’s best case scenario right ? Knicks pick lands in the late teens to 20s because we are good, and Dallas pick lands just outside the top 10. It’s a shame it’s not more lightly protected, but that’s the way it goes. Knicks haven’t drafted a star, but have been so good drafting outside of the top 10 lately that I think there’s huge opportunity here. I have felt the team could make a move between now and the deadline for a bench scorer/ 6th man type, but I also believe that a player of that caliber will be there in the 11-15 range if the Knicks draft well. That is my hope. There’s a stud wing that will be there if we are smart. Knicks may not want to pay a free agent this year and will likely trim some fat off the roster, so there is still space for a wing scorer/ 2-way player to make an impact if we draft the right guy.
we are so young. I would be fine with bringing back the 9 man rotation (currently average age of < 24)Rose stays, Fournier and Cam are replaced with FRPs and just take the BPA. Guys like IQ/Ob/McBride can all earn their extensions when the time comes. We are MSG and I'm not worried about having to pay guys
Fish, I'm always going back and forth on drafting BPA or Need. I think if we go BPA, it should be for a player who was labeled a potential star, but fell in the draft for injury concerns or other concerns. We passed on Michael Porter Jr due to injury concerns. And he sat out his first year with that same injury. All knick fans were like, yes I escaped that issue. Turns out he's a very solid player and way better than I expected. We can definitely take chances on a player that 1 year away from contributing.

Now that we know what works, maybe finding Grimes type players who are 2 way players, but smart enough to blend in with other stars. And skilled enough to have a high ceiling. To me thats Grimes. And I think every draft is full of these type players. They usually get overlooked by overseas guys or player that run and jump higher. Then there's the players that kill the combine. After all that smoke is clear, I believe we can find a need in the draft and not just BPA. Maybe someone to replace IQ for example, if the FO doesn't plan on keeping him and want to take advantage of these rookie salaries.
Keep building around our top 3 (or 4 with Grimes) with low salary players that are hungry and smart, while having the ability to excel in a defensive minded high IQ system. Thibs seems like he gives his players a lot of room on offense. So high IQ 2-way players are perfect for Thibs system.
