The Frenchman with what looks like a newly tattooed hairline, is the key to the team having a surprise season. If we can get French FIBA national team player who can create on the offense for himself and others, then the team will have something special. I know he is not a defensive player but if he can play average but play make for others and score within the flow of the offensive he will make it easier for RJ, Julius and Mitch, with Brunson. Plus he can also play behind RJ at the 3 and play alongside IQ and Grimes to offer lots of spacing

I’d say he’s one of the “ifs” that could lead to a much improved team and season. If he, Randle, and Rose rebound and play better. If the young starters RJ and Mitch take a step forward. If the other younguns progress. If Hart gives better second unit performances than the MIA Noel or perhaps even the beloved Taj (for the Taj lovers we’ll predict a hopeful wash). Under the tutelage of Thibs and Brunson, I see it as a pretty good call for optimism. But yeah, I would accept a border All Star season from Fournier.

I like this take. Fournier was kinda odd man out for preseason minutes but obviously deliberately so for a look at others.

If Knicks can hold tight with ball moving Randle and RJ, and Mitch establishes consistent play ala against Wizards, Fournier will get the biggest lift

EF should be the beneficiary of many assists this year.

I also think there’s more hustle in his game than what we saw early last season.

I wanted him gone last year, but I’m rooting for him now.

The guy was played all the way to the finals in Euroleague, it’s not like he needs game time for conditioning. At his age resting during our preseason was likely appreciated and also gave us a chance to look at other combinations with those minutes

I'm hoping he plays well enough to get traded imho early in the season. If Fournier's shot isn't falling he's pretty useless. Can't win with players like that. Especially on a team that's not that talented or experienced.

the bold tells me you dont watch or you are just spouting. Fournier is not a good 1-1 defender, but he's not useless. He's very physical and has shown he can be a good team defender. He's also a complete offensive player. He can handle the ball, break down a defense 1-1, pass off the dribble, gets into the paint... I dont get why people **** on players because they arent their shiny favorites.

People also want to write him off like "he is what he is" but the growth that can still come from guys like Fournier (and should we trade him Randle) is chemistry. EF plays hard and works hard and his teammates like him. Expect to see him/RJ/Mitch/Jules level up together in terms of basic basketall chemistry. They can play better together and with a better PG surely will.

EF is a stop gap player. He's here to be supplanted by Grimes or whoever, but we dont have anything close to being as good as him at that position right now.

You don't pay $73M for a stop gap player. And I watch every game. I see a player who plays soft defensively (beaten off the dribble at will, doesn't rotate fast enough consistently, beaten back door for layup's, his man leaks out in transition) and doesn't contribute anything consistently if that shot isn't falling. I don't like players like him. Felt the same way about Tim Hardaway Jr. These are the worst type of vets and players to have on this type and level of team.

You pay $73M for the spacing he helps create on offense. He holds the single season record for 3pters made. He did that without a PG.

He will, if healthy, break it again. And if he doesn't, it will mean other players stepped up hugely and he, Fournier, made the pass to give that player the production he has seen.

Fournier showed leadership last year.

The Knicks are going to be fun to watch this year - don't let your hate get in the way.

Please note, what matters is:

Trade Randle
Fire Thibs
Trade Fournier
I can't believe we gave up Knox and probably #2s for goddamn Cam
That draft pick we gave up to help create cap space for Brunson could have been used to draft Tari Eason (or....)

It might have been about giving Fournier a breather, after a summer of playing in Europe. Fish is right, Fournier is a stopgap at his age. But he still has enough left in the tank to move the needle. When he's playing good D, and doing a good job of setting up teamates. Like he was vs the Wiz.

The biggest X factor Imo is Hart. When it comes to the second unit offense, seems more like they have to get used to Hart, than the other way around. Hart is making great passes to cutters. His teammates have to make sure they're doing a good job of moving without the ball. Not something this team has done well.

$18M a year for a floor spacer, specialist is still a little too much for me on this team. We could've/should've just brought back Bulloch at almost half the price and gotten better D but whatever.

I might debate you on how much leadership Evan actually showed last year, but I 100% expect him to be a leader this year.

Fournier came to a team that overachieved, won home court advantage in the playoffs, and had most of the same roster intact. I thought he spent a better part of last season (certainly the beginning) trying to fit in as opposed to stepping up - and I think that's justifiable on his end!

This year though I want Euro Evan. I want to see him take control of this team, especially since Julius proved last year last year that there's still a vacancy open. Having Captain Rose back will help, but need someone on the floor who can calm and corral the team.

Bullock is cheaper but he sucks. He can’t create his own shot and his defense is insanely overrated. Fournier was not a great signing either but he’s a better shooter and more dynamic scorer and he will be better this year especially with an actual pg on the roster.
