Hes been building up under the radar sincc he came into NBA and really revealed in last years playoffs. Hes going to stabilize and correct some woes we had last year. our differential will change and we will get many more Ws

Would love to see him blossom into a star but I’d be happy with him being Mark Jackson 2.0

Eh, when I think of a star, I think of guy who is at least top 10 at his position. Don't see that for Brunson yet. But I do think he is quality starter and there are plenty of teams who would love to have JB.

He gets to his spots so easily. He elevated to a star level in the playoffs and the big question is will it carry over to a different team. So far so good.

OK, I got one for you....

Would you rather have had things unfold in FA as they did and end up with cap space and Brunson?

OR

Would you rather have had the chance to trade up in draft and land Ivey without room to maneuver for cap space/Brunson?

JB has few star qualities. Kind of build that makes him look smaller, not quite the face you will see in shaving ad, and won’t be in TMZ knocking up a Kardashian or smoking weed on a pod cast. The kid is not “Broadway”. Just a quiet leadership quality and the center of leadership at every level he played at.
His ambition to be paid is honorable, and maybe for the near term being able to run this team. In dallas, it was Lukas team. Not that he is a top 10 talent but he put himself front and center in the biggest city and not shy away from it. He wants to be here.
He is no the flashy “NYC” point guard and I doubt he makes allstar teams outside of NY voting but for now he is our anchor, the defacto captain of this team. Good investment!

he's not top 10 at his position so no... but he's really good player, fills a need and will help and is in his prime. He just turned 26 and is playing his best ball. That's a thing of beauty. He's also a great fit for this coach

Definitely brunson, but I do think both would have happened. Obviously landing Ivey would have made it impossible to pursue Mitchell, but if we landed Ivey, I think we would have used remaining draft capital to clear necessary space for Brunson.

When all the Brunson chatter started last season I thought there was no way Dallas would let him go and he would end up with the Knicks. The more I see and learn the more hopeful I am that he is the X factor - glue guy? - that allows the team to to take a few steps forward. Marbury was a "star" -- I prefer a hard nosed, intelligent, team guy which is what Brunson appears to be. Very very happy he is our point guard with and how the FO acquired him -- including the draft night moves to free up cap room that caused a river of pants wetting (Stephen A "#1" contributer).

Even if I agree with you, my fear every year with knick fans is the over exaggeration analysis from preseason games, especially his first game in a knick uniform.

Also, does it matter if he's LABELED a star or not? What matters is his fit with the team and how that impacts RJ and Randle. Labels come with time and experience.

I'm happy with the direction of the team. Having Brunson, Cap space and Picks.....Along with a deep team of players 25 and younger. If JB helps Randle reach All Star level play, we might have to trade Obi / Cam. I'm not the contract expert on this forum, but I believe these guys (along with others) are due for a new contract soon. I've always said, Obi or Randle has to go. Not sure how we can have both, unless Obi signs a super cheap contract where he only get minimal mins behind Randle.

But I believe Brunson has the potential to be a stable force as the PG of the future for the knicks. And Mitch Rob with Hart solidifies our Center position. I love how this FO just locked down the two most important positions on the floor for several years. It's been a while since I could say that about a knicks team.

How are MVP candidates chosen?
Until the 1979–80 season, the MVP was selected by a vote of NBA players. Since the 1980–81 season, the award is decided by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Each member of the voting panel casts a vote for first to fifth place selections. I don't believe there's a 5-10 place selection.

This is just one sportswriter perspectives of how he votes for MVP.
Steve Aschburner: The MVP is the best player on the team with the best record. Unless it's the star who has done something statistically and artistically masterful over the 82-game, regular-season canvas.

JB will be the most valuable player on the team (to knick fans). But I doubt he will be on anybody's radar for NBA MVP outside of this knick community. Sportswriters and Broadcasters will simply select the best player from the top 3 teams in the NBA. I haven't done any searching if there's been an MVP candidate (since 1979) that came from a team that didn't make the playoffs or did not make it passed the 1st round.

he may have come here to be a star that he could never be in Dallas playing with Luka (money was secondary)

fingers crossed. And even if he's not a star he will be transformative for this team -- they needed a brain at pg

I’m hoping he becomes sort of like Kyle Lowry did in Toronto. Lowry also got to Toronto at age 26 and broke out a year later.

I was sold when he chose #11. Keep Frank’s memory alive!! I am sure Frank told him to take his number or they had some conversation about it. No way that was just coincidence.

Brunson looks spectacular on offense. On defense, he definitely had some problems but he also played tough and took some charges. His offense should outweigh his defensive limitations and just having that steady hand at the point should do wonders for this team. It was what we missed last year once Rose got hurt.
