If Im reading this right hes going to be suspended for having a consensual relationship with a staff member.

I can understand if it was not consensual of course or the girl was not of age---I means something pretty bad---but a consensual relationship between adults? What the heck---I do not agree at all. Its blasphemy if true and whether it was warned or even signed into something of a pledge---a relationship that is consensual whoever the parties--should be a reasonable act of rights --to be severely punished is insane.

I have a diehard Celtics buddy, who was raised by a bunch of women, and he is definitely feminist

That said, he said he’s conflicted

The most important/interesting point he made is that his team is stacked. Let’s say they win the championship, or make the finals, with Ime’s stand in—What happens then? Do they fire the interim guy if that happens? Or Ime?

I personally think Ime should be canned

This is a true story, most of you know I don’t tolerate bull**** and for those that met me, I’m a big guy, I used to get in a lot of fights as a young, dumb man

I had a former boss, an old dude with a wife and kids, and he said I was pretty and he’d like to **** me. What am I going to do there, pull a spreewell and end up on the six o’clock news?

Now put yourself in this women’s shoes. How hard do you think it is, on a personal level, to work in groupie central aka the NBA. Do you remember Patrick Ewings Atlanta jiggle joint testimony? Or see how James Harden blows his cash?

Bottom line is there’s a bunch of bull**** women would have to deal with in basketball. She can consent, true, but he certainly abused his position of power. I think it’s absurd

If it's a consensual relationship between two adults, I don't see a problem with it tbh. Aside from Udoka being married but that's not relevant to this story or situation. I gotta hear more about this story.

I tend to agree with you. Let's throwaway the non-consensual argument right now. If it was non-consensual, "You're fired and we'll cooperate with the authorities." But even consensual, many employers have a company policy about employee relationships for that very reason. May not be a direct subordinate, but very few people within the organization are going to have as much pull as the head coach.

It's not final yet, but if it sticks, the 1 year time frame is weird to me. If you think the matter is severe enough to warrant the full year, than it should just be a termination. Can't help but wonder who the woman is in all this, what connections she may have with senior staff, but at the end of the day I hope none of that information gets out because it will just create a circus for her.

Sounds like it was multiple women and one was married to a VP with the Celtics. I think the consensual relationship wasn’t the issue, but more about the conflict it caused within the organization being the issue as far as violation of code of conduct. This is much different than just a relationship with a single intern or something. Those happen all the time and are just ignored. Can’t ignore this guy having relations with a VP’s wife I guess.

Has to do with *business* ethics guys. It says he violated team rules. Doesn't matter where we see it on the moral spectrum. Of course then there's all we don't know, the specifics. We all like to fly off the handle but we can also wait and see.

And yeah, a hard d!@k has no conscience. I have my stories and I've paid my prices. Always consensual but that doesn't mean not stupid as hell!

I think they would have if they didn’t make the Finals last year. That is the elephant in the room with all of this.

Also there is a chance this is set up for him to resign to avoid him being “fired” by the team. I think they should just fire him but that finals run probably has them hesitant.

That where it's heading. Make his life as much of a hell as they can where he has no choice but to resign. Been there (not the part about banging my bosses wife, but the corporate games aspect).

So flipside it’s all about policy and organizatio. We have Rebecca who had a baby with Wally. On the low Wally could have been fired for that. Sleeping with co-workers is such a minefield and Ime unlike Wally did not get through it unscathed.

Fiz and Coach Spo also met their wives while they were on the coaching staff and the women were on the cheerleading squad. It's not about the activity itself, but probably the parties involved. Also, despite Martin's protests, Wally wasn't in a position of authority over Rebecca and Rebecca was married to anyone within the organization like the Udoka rumors are suggesting.

I don't know enough about Udoka's specific situation but I fully support the possibly rigid rule of no dating within the organization. For every 5 situations that work out "okay" (meaning no lawsuits filed, no clear abuse of power) - there are many that don't. I agree with the previous comment about the difficulty of women in the NBA workforce. Just because something's been allowed for decades doesn't mean it's right. So if you fall in love with someone you work with - you resign or take a position that doesn't pose a conflict (however the law is written). Then we can finally start reading less about ethic violations, abuse of power, codes of conduct, etc...

Yeah, also I wonder did they openly date these women. I have no proof, but openly dating might be seen a lot less harshly than affairs between married colleagues,

If Udoka was single, then became involved with another single (consenting) employee. Im guessing the Celtics FO would have kept it in-house. But this was a lot different. Different enough to reflect poorly on the franchise, if they were to let this slide.

Unless this story isnt true, I dont believe there is anything left for the FO to do but ask for Udoka's resignation. Not a good look.

Yeah, I don't think people get how bad these situations can be until they're in them- even if they start off consensual- when I was younger I found myself in a really messy situation with my boss and when it didn't work out I suddenly realized how much power she had over me that really limited my options (they can bad mouth you to other employers, they write your references, they can control your shifts, work, performance reviews, promotions, demotions, etc etc. Would never make that mistake again, it really is horrible situation to find yourself in- there's a reason for strict policies re: relationships between staff (plus it leaves the company open to huge financial threat through civil suites etc.)

I will say this. I agree that he should not have had sex with a staff member, especially with him being married (to f..king Nia Long of all people, I mean how stupid can you be to get caught cheating on such a beautiful woman) but I do feel like these women play victim too quick. You are a grown woman who has probably been rejecting guys your whole life. If he steps to you, just politely tell him no and let that be the end of it and he should let that be the end of it. These women want to be treated as equals but the second they submit to having sex, the guy is the predator and the woman is the victim. She knew he was married. As far as we know, she was flirting with him. Should he be suspended? Yes, if for nothing else, cheating on Nia fricking Long, but I would not fire him or suspend him for a year.

this might be a difference between the celtics and many other organizations. The celtics had a policy and they meant it. someone tested that and got caught. A really professional organization that knows what it's doing will take action even coming off a great year and all the other mitigating factors mentioned (e.g., consensual)

i also think that situations like the SUns and others have an influence. Who knows how this surfaced but once upper mgmt got notified then everyone is potentially on the hook for a hostile work environment.

i say this being surprised about the amount of suspension being discussed or even the possibility of resigning.

They never married. I won't get on him too much for that because for all we know, they might have had an open relationship. I think what makes him dumb is that he was willing to risk his job, one of the most converted of the 30 that exist in the world, for some tang. That is on some Derek Fisher levels of irresponsibility.
