If we pay him $30 mil a year that’s like a $1 mil per game

If the draft is any indication, I don't think Windy or Pelton are really that clued in to the Knicks plans. It's all speculation at this point.

Zero chance this happens and I'm glad. Kyrie has to be the most annoying, selfish, lazy and dumbest players in NBA history.

Lakers for $6mil is the best place for Kyrie and very good for the Lakers, in at least it gives them hope for this season (I don't even like the Lakers, but having Lebron and AD just wither for another season is such a waste for the nba

Kyrie may have to wait out Brunson. If Brunson stays in Dallas, Knicks become an option. If Brunson chooses the Knicks, Dallas may have interest via sign and trade.

I like it when the lakers lose a lot. That team gets way to many gifts.

Kyrie and Doncic? That's a reality show I'd really like to see. Even if Kyrie only plays in 20 games.

Texas is really flat btw, isn't it?

As different as Kyrie is, cant see him leaving 36 mill on the table for a mid level deal. I think he opts in and the nets make one more run at a chip and figure things out next summer.

Normally I'd agree, but the western conference playoffs were pretty boring- I'm still hoping to see a clippers vs lakers playoff showdown (and for the Clips to win it)

For the most part didn't he just leave like $16M on the table this past year? And then someone on his agent's team must have told him the downwind ramifications of that? Like Brooklyn won't offer you an $186M extension?

While Irving is staring down the barrel of more than $16 million vanishing into thin air, the stakes are even higher than that.

Kyrie Irving is entering the third year of the four-year, $136.5 million contract he signed in 2019 and is eligible for up to a four-year extension worth $186 million.

He would have to exercise his player option for 2022–23 ($36.5 million) to get the extension. But that is now off the table, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Charania spoke recently on The Glue Guys podcast about the situation.

“He was willing to sacrifice, at the end of the day, $16 million in salary this upcoming year and $186 million, as far as an extension, that he will not be offered now,” Charania said.

That’s more than $200 million in lost income Irving is facing. But in comments he made on social media on Oct. 13, he’s aware of the stakes.

Didn't that also essentially cost him his Nike contract too? (they decided not to renew which was $11mil per year).

However if he goes to the Lakers and they're successful, he gets maybe a max deal from the Lakers next summer and the sponsors come crawling back. It would be a game. Essentially a one year opt in with the Nets now, or take a $6mil all or nothing gamble with the Lakers, in which longer term he ends up with more money (though much riskier), or settle for the certain 1 year deal now and try not to implode again.

Good point. The fact that he lost so much money is why he seems adamant to want the full max. But you are right, Kyrie is different, different...lol
