He may not be the Shot blocker mitch is, but i don't see any center (out side of Embiid) that he can't handle.

There used to be a time when certain teams would play 3 guards, now more and more teams play 4 guards,

The bulls/suns/GSW/Bucks/Nets (all on top the conference) play 4 guards on a regular, none of those teams have a defensive shot blocking center....Maybe Ayton on the suns, but he's not really known for his defense.

The NBA is a switch heavy defense and Thibs talked about that when he benched Kemba.

Why keep trotting out this slow as line up that can't keep up with the switch...

How many times did we see Lonzo ball guarding Randle, or any guard for the matter,

Then you see his teammates try and get him the ball for the mismatch, then randle tries to bully his way in the paint backing them down for 10 seconds while every one stands around....then bitch when he doesn't get the call for over powering them

I don't think you are qualified to make suggestion. In fact, when you go on full Rain man rant your barley coherent.

Can we do a podcast where PhilC and 1248 cohost with no guest. just them talking to each other.
But the producer has to hire a fact checker and intervene.

List of topics to discuss.

1. God's existance, the role of religion
2. Soviet economics
3. Where does the Tooth fairy get her funds?
4. Should Santa's elves unionize?
5. Is Blutooth Really blue?

This for the first episode. Anyone have suggestions for the 2nd? Either topics or Guests?

You disagreed with out even looking, just lazy

lets just call them wings/guards who can defend 1-4

I'll just name a few of the starting PF on these teams

Bulls- 6 6" Derozen
SunS - 6 6" Crowder
Bucks- 6 10 Ganis, but for while they started his brother, they have no canter which is why they signed Cousin
GSW- 6 6" Draymon who can guard every position
Raptors 6 6" Barnes
hornets 6 7" bridges

Which one of those guys will mitch guard on the switch, or maybe you enjoy watching him run back to the paint and leave the guy open behind the arc

I can go down the line dude...wake the hell up

Randle
Rj
Fournier
Burks
kemba

Thats how teams play fast a swing the ball

is this a refined version of your tired argument that Mitch and Randle can't coexist?

Cause it is a whole lot better1 I'M BUYING.

We play with no energy, no ball movement. Put Randle at the five, he is a perfect stretch five. Let's go full

Of course, I think Thibs head would explode. I don't mind giving up open shots, but we have to play smart offense and hit our own open shots.

That is a great line up. I'd roll Obi, IQ & Rose as my bench, with Noel or Mitch if the need arises.

Knicks need a Robert Covington type big wing that can guard all positions to give them that versatility. Covington is both CAA and an upcoming free agent. He is a good shot blocker and help defender and also allows Randle the middle all to himself.

C Randle
F Covington
F Barrett
G Fournier
G Burks

You can switch without issues. This would be a cheaper alternative to Myles Turner.

Ok, I am down with that. He would be perfect for this team, plays Sf-PF-C. Hits the 3 at a respectable rate. All Defensive third team in 2018. He did not forget how to play D. It would really open up our offense

Randle is a bit undersized for a PF let alone C. Randle is only really 6’8” and is not a shot blocker. Without Noel or Mitch in the middle, teams will be driving to the basket at will. Mitch and Noel deter opposing players from even thinking about driving. Where our defense is weak is in our ability to guard the 3 point line. That just comes down to better rotations and recognition and hustle. Really, if Randle and RJ return to last year’s 3pt% and we make slight improvements in our 3pt defense, this team’s problems will go away.

Yes & no .. when Lakers drafted Randle they should've played Randle at the SF position throughout his rookie contract. It took Randle an entire 4 season just to become a 20 to 24 minute bench PF.
Randles a poor-man PF, and a poor-man point-forward, plus Randles only defense are grabbing a defensive-rebound. Thibs putting 4 guards and Randle on the court in a lineup down the stretch the other night vs Bulls were a BIG-JOKE !!!

The NBA teams mention from the poster that uses four-guard lineups (Bulls/Suns/GSW/Bucks/Nets) are all fast transition teams that are forever pushing the ball up-court with as less dribbling as possible.
Well, that's not the Knicks 40 min all-star Randle's dribble-dribble-dribble the ball up-court performance.
Randle's poor passing-skills has been averaging four turn-overs a game for 2 and a half seasons, stopping the Knicks team ball-movement.
Randle performace without Bullocks 2-Way hustle always covering-up for Randle lack of defense, plus D.Rose & Quickley pushing the ball in transition to show off the Knicks fastest runner with dynamic HOPS Obi Toppin.
Randle was the problem in the playoffs, and now has been the problem in the Knicks starter lineup !!!

If teams drive into the middle, and get shots at the basket, it means they are not hitting open 3ptrs! I'll take the +1 point differential- that would help.

And if teams do that and it becomes an issue, we can see about adjusting them.

Because with the way Randle is hustling lately, people like Jokic will be scoring 64 points in three quarters, and Thibs will keep getting ejected from every game until Jimmy steps in and fires him.

I'm in no big rush to see Johnny Bryant's head coaching chops.

Myles Turner is leading the league in blocks, yet the pacers are 10-16.

Mitch had 5 blocks in a defeat to the Bulls who shot 50% for the game

here maybe is the thing- you put him at the 5 spot, I think maybe it is a way to call him out and give him a way to re-invigorate himself and the team.

Maybe his role needs to be reinvented for him to get interested again. Maybe he is sleepwalking cause his bored, his not thinking. Maybe its the dose of cold water for his malaise.

The problem with our two main players is that they are not the type of players you can put on any roster and they will click perfectly there.

Randle has to play PF even though we would sometimes like to see him in the center. The problem is that he is simply not the center, nor is he SF. RJ is a great all-round player and is pretty good at most things, but he’s not a top in the league in anything because he’s not very athletic nor is he a top scorer. And that automatically reduces the options you have with mixing fives.

And then you have the situation that next to Randle you have to have a center on the floor, and next to RJ you should have an athletic wing (which Fournier is not and as I wrote, Bullock was a better fit there).

I honestly thought our FO would be looking for some athletic wing who didn’t fulfill his potential in the last free agency, and that we would take someone similar to Fournier in the PG position (a solid stable starter who will do his job but bring nothing above average in that position).

You’re right. And what you’re saying is the Knicks sorely lack a glue guy who can connect the dots. I suggested Covington as a free agent next summer or sooner if Portland starts to sell as a reasonable solution.

It's not just the man to man defense. Julius has been horrible as a help defender. You put him on the back line and it would be a disaster. The only way it would help the team improve it's defense on the three point line is that teams will figure out that they can shoot 70% at the rim instead.

What about shooting, passing, rotating, perimeter defense, leadership, speed, spacing, rebounding.

You seem like you have a blind eye for everything they lack and only focus on the one thing they are decent at, sub par rim protection.

you have zero legs to stand on when it is a proven fact that we were a better defensive and offensive team with out Mitch as our starting Center.

In the 2+ yrs that Randle has been a knicks, he's look super suspect when playing with Mitch ( under Fizdale and now thibs), in fact the entire teams chemistry is way off.

Do you think we are better with or without mitch as our starter...and notice, Im not saying eliminating him from the rotation just the starting line up
