when Thibs started him in the 2nd half of the suns game, the suns went on a 14-0 run
There is a point in every game where the starters give a up huge run. Grimes did not help but it's been a pattern the whole season so I put more blame on the normal starters.
The point is he didn't help..
I understand that. My point was in response to your point. My point is that since giving up huge leads is common practice for the starters maybe its not the fault of the new guy but of the people who always gives up huge leads. Every time Grimes play with the bench he is always positively contributing. When he played with the starters he did not. I think its easy to see where the real problem is.
You think Randle is the problem?
I have my suspicions that Randle is the main problem. For 2 years the only player who consistently played well with him was Reggie. Reggie only wants to catch and shoot. So he was just fine with Randle dominating the ball and doing everything on offense. RJ's ability to play well rests on his ability to hit shots because with ISO Randle he is relegated to mostly a spot up shooter. The bad thing is shooting is not his strength.
ER and Kemba both did not magically forget how to play offense over the span of a summer. Their defense can be blamed on them. Last year on the Celtics they were both efficient whenever they played with each other on offense. During games when the bench was playing well and brought us back into the game what happen? Randle is subbed in for Obi at the end of the game and then the team sucks again and we lose the game. We usually blame the bench being fatigued but it always happens when Randle subs back in. I can't say without 100% certainty because Randle is never injured. This is why like 10 games ago I was saying in the game threads I want to see the starters play 2 games without Randle to come to a final conclusion.
I think younger or less seasoned player will defer to Randle way too much, and they become less affective. Without Randle, like the 2nd unit, there’s no pecking order. Play hard and score. But that SL needs a player better than Randle. CP3 or a true floor general PG would do wonders for Randle and the roll players. Someone Randle will naturally defer to. Right now Randle is frustrated and starting to go into bully mode. I was hoping Kemba would be that PG vet who will take the ball out of Randles hands. But he’s in the dog house. Randle needs vets around him to succeed. But when he’s the lone star, it’s too much weight for him to handle. He can’t be his normal high emotion self. But that’s what he needs to do if he’s playing bully ball. We go as far as Randle takes us, until we make a trade for another star. Randle even said, we not like the nets…or lakers with top 10 nba starters. That’s why he signed a star friendly contract. To bring on another star player. Just need to be careful which star player we add will develop chemistry with Randle. He’s not easy to build around….in my opinion, because I think he’s a tweener at PF and lacks flexibility to affectively play more than 1 position. Too small at center and too slow against most SF…..Which available star fits with Randle? I don’t think that player is available. To me cp3 can make Randle an all star if he was available.
