They have better players. Two good 7 footers is impossible to match

If we keep defending like this, most teams are better than us.

They were on fire.
But realism. We can’t guard two premium 7 footers. Makes everyone of the perimeter players better

Their zone defense is very good. Long arms lebngth for days

Yeah, this team has become too reliant on pull-up threes. It's an important skill, but the team isn't going to be as efficient taking them over the long haul. This team isn't good enough to think. It can just gunsling it's way to a W.

If I'm being honest, thats a lot of teams in this league. And I think we've done a good job at creating looks for 3s but yes we are reliant on them.

Yeah, but those teams, at least the good ones, also run consistently effective motions on offense and get into the paint to create good spot up opportunities. I don't feel the shots have been coming as easily and we've just been really hot. Let's be real. Kemba ain't gonna keep shooting like this. We're going going to need him to consistently take the paint.

The Rubio argument would be fine except Mobley (a rookie that Randle definitely thought he could take to school) shot 11-15 and Allen completely overwhelmed Mitch and Garland didn't exactly shoot poor from 3 himself.

How exactly are the Knicks better than Cleveland right now?

That Mobley kid is solid and plays well for a rookie. We can beat the Cavs but they are definitely better than they were last year.

Knicks shot 9-31 from 3.....missing a significant amount of open looks. Cavs shot 19-35 from 3 (54%). Thats 30 extra points from 3. They were certainly better last night, but hard to really say who's better overall when the shooting normalizes to average. For instance is Rubio going to average
90% from 3 for the year? If he shot to his career average (32%) the game/score is close.

They aren’t but Cavs are likely a playoff team this year as are we

Their best 3 point shooter missed 5. They played without sexton. Rubio was unreal but we lost because their big men dominated. ThTs not including Laurie M

Look at their zone defense. They put Mobley up top! It’s nasty good and that’s with two smallish guards

How about looking at how our defense absolutely sucked. When it wasn't raining Rubio threes, they were getting wide open dunks.
Too much standing around, staring at each other.

How the hell does Mitch rotate and leave DRose alone under the basket?

Yes, and as they proved yesterday, they can beat us.

Eh. I disagree. I see people on here saying we can't guard 2 7fters, I see people on here saying the Cavs have better players or the Knicks played terrible defense. Nah. To me, it looked like the Knicks just shot poorly. In particular, RJ and Fournier were off. RJ was completely off his game. I think he was like 1-6 from 3 before Thibs benched him. Fournier wasn't getting his 3's to fall, even though he was making it happen off the dribble once in a while.

When the Knicks can't hit the 3 and they fall behind, it's tough to come back. They either need a massive game from Julius or a huge defensive effort.

By the way, a couple of other notes top add. Rose played well but he was also off from outside the arc. Quickley and Grimes hit some 3's but it was too little too late at that point. And Kemba was out.

This game was far from a blowout. The Knicks D was far from terrible. If they hit their shots they would have probably won easily. I'm not even going to get into how unstoppable Rubio was. I doubt he will have a game like this ever again in his career, and yet the game was still within reach in the 4th.

Sucks that the Knicks lost. I hate seeing these upswings just to see them lose the next game. But it is what it is. These games happen. As the team is built right now, with the personnel they have, they can probably go toe to toe with any other team in the league. And IMO it will come down to how well they defend and how well they shoot from the perimeter.

Exactly. If you don't have dangerous 3 point shooters, if you can't generate 3's or have guys who can pull up and hit a 3 when needed, you are pretty much toast in this league. Its the reason we went out and got Fournier and Kemba in the offseason. It's the reason RJ has been working tirelessly on becoming a better 3 point shooter.

And I'm not sure how you can say they are reliant on it when they can (and DO) throw the ball to Julius on a regular basis to attack the rim and make something happen.

Bottom line, to win in this league -especially this year now that the refs and letting the defense play- you have to play tenacious D and hit your shots.

I have to wonder if the way the game is being officiated this year is making teams w/o star treatment more competitive. I don’t have a stat, but I think foul calls across the league are down overall. Refs are letting them play. You keep seeing young guys guarding stars and making life difficult w/o questionable fouls being called.
