Wea re getting back a player that claims to have put on 40-50 pounds of muscle/size.
He did not have a polished game but ws effective as is--wiry length and strength that allowed him to block shots rebound and play junk man on the O.

With this size whether it be muscle etc... what can we expect? Will he have the same speed?agility/bounce that was so important to his particular game?

Will his feet hold up with the increased size? Its really gonna be a wait and see.

The two things Im most concerned with is this size he put on and Kemba walkers knees

I expect his shot blocking to be a little less effective. I hope his extra size makes him a better post defender.

40-50pds since his rookie yr. Not all in one offseason. He supposedly gained 20pds this offseason. The weight looked proportioned well. Time will tell the effects. But this had to have been done with a plan in mind.

About 7lbs per agent. About right.

TBH I was thinking/hoping we would move Mitch for Turner.

That said - I think Mitch showed significant improvement in his overall D last year - particularly in staying on his feet with less biting on fakes.

Wondering if the extra weight is a Knick directive and if so geared towards dealing specifically with Embid or some other bigger centers.
Personally — didn’t think it was possible to add 70 good pounds in only 2 years. Should be interesting with Mitch - it always is.

Agreed, He was the missing link ba the hawks. That series showed how we need him and Noel is a solid back up center.

The added weight might make him slower, but hopefully it helps him in guarding capela, Embiid and jokic

This made me laugh. Let’s hope he doesn’t switch agents much more.

Thankfully Noel is making a nice paycheck, and we signed Taj. I assume that means the plan is to limit Mitch’s minutes. I’d love to see Mitch emerge as a reliable force, but I don’t know if his skeleton is up to the task.

Mitch can’t have a 19 year old body the rest of his life

As long as it doesn’t affect his timing and his leaping ability.

I think it was 7 kg. His agent is French.

If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

If he's slower, the part of the link that would have made him valuable in slowing down players like Trae ends up breaking off. Majority of what made Mitch's unique value on D is his ability to be in two places at once covering the pick and roll. Hope that remains the same with the added garage weight room muscle.

You really think Mitch alone was going to win us 3 more games? Randle shooting sheehit from the field had more to do with it than Noel's skinny azz and bad hands.

It's not just regular Mitch returning. It's contract-year Mitch.

He's going to want to play his heart out this year, but needs to be smart about avoiding injuries. I know coaches love it, but I don't want to see him diving on the floor this year.

Doubt even Thibs wants to see Mitch with his breakable hands and feet diving onto the floor. More like getting him to stay on his feet and continue to cut down on any stupid fouls. Mitch gets so much done with just his ability to cover ground and extend that zombie presence all over the floor. Hopefully without hitting it.

Curious subplot before game 1 is do we extend him or does he go the seaosn and become unrestricted at seasons end. He too has not benefited stability the team now enjoys and its a shame he got hurt last year when he did. His valuation might have been clearer.

With Norlens locked up it affords us room to let him walk or include him in a trade. Its possible knicks look at his ceiling as Norlens and think “Why take the risk”?

That we got Noel as free agent is a plus. That he, Evan and Burks are all on tradable deals. Its important that any player we sign the GM has to consider “could I turn around and trade him tomorrow? Norlens won’t give us 82 games. I doubt Mitch does eitehr. 10-12mm per is about his price. Do we do this, play him then perhaps trade on or the other if Sims shows promise?
Whats good is we don’t have all our chips in one basket. We can pivot in many ways without a big contract.
It opens a door for Miles Turner for fans of his. It opens the door for Jerico Sims. If one gets hurt the other can step in and knicks will be ok.
Not going to worry about beyond this year. If he walks as free agent its a sign our cupboard is full of possiblities. No saviors mind you and no clear path like a blue chip draft pick at the position. Knicks are not depleted and sometimes you let players walk.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but the landscape of what Mitch can do if not retained by the Knicks, and it is thin: Only a few teams will have cap space - I think Spurs will be one of the only teams that are amongst those teams that would have interest. Also, a sign and trade is made more complicated because Mitch is a 2nd round pick and his contract will only count at 50% going out because of salary cap rules or whatever.

Do you think Mitch would accept an offer starting around $9.5M versus what the Knicks would offer him?
