Non basketball moves will now be a offensive foul. We all know most of the stars use non basketball moves to get the the FT line … no more will you be able to pump fake and jump into the defensive player. Are we going to see half the amount of free throws during a game .

Players like trey young are going to have to change the way they play.

I personally think this is the biggest rule change since hand checking. Unlike that rule change I love this one!

I’ll believe it when I see it.

And I think it’s going to hit some “superstars” right in the wallet.

Yeah...I like it.

I will need to see some NBA poster boys getting charged with this new foul before I believe it'll be a game changer. Young and Harden come to mind for me.

I expect we will also see an increase in technical fouls early in the season, unless they really crack down on it during pre-season.

There will be a learning curve. For some players, it's become an automatic/instinctual part of their game. Will be interesting to watch.

Exactly. I won’t believe this rule exists until suddenly James Harden stops getting 57+ free throws per night

Do we really believe the superstars won't be getting the calls?

Come on, man...it's only about 50/game...no need to exaggerate.

Hope Quickly adapts...well, quickly. He's not exactly innocent in this (although, not as bad as someone like Harden).

This will be a fantastic rule change. Trickery has become too common a weapon for elite players like Harden and Young...but it shouldn't be such a deterministic aspect of the game. Some of the BS Young pulled in our series against them were egregious abuse of non-basketball moves.

And Harden swinging the ball through outstrecthed arms should never have been a shooting foul.

NYK and all defensive-minded teams will benefit a ton from this rule change. 'Bout muffugin time!

Yep my first thought was impact on Quickley.

Funny we finally get a sneaky/tricky guard who takes advantage of horrible rules and NBA immediately changes the rule.

There is another rule change as well regarding using your off hand to initiate contact. Devin Booker on almost every drive will raise and lower his off hand to hook the defender. Previously it was really hard to call, now I believe the defender won't get called as long as the contact is incidental.

Thread creator should add a link to the rule changes.

The NBA wants to make this great game of basketball even better. I respect that so much I respect it a lot.

The NBA is serious too.

• Once the NBA said Zone Defense was allowed? Kobe Bryant cried about it, but Zone Defense was allowed (it made scoring too easy one on one for Jordan to abuse Starks etc).

• Once the NBA said hand checking is no longer allowed? Scottie Pippen complained about it, but Hand Checking was no longer allowed (it made basketball look like tackle football).

• Once the NBA said you could no longer call timeout while diving out of bounds? Dennis Rodman hated it (but you could no longer call timeout without first controlling possession while I'm bounds).

Etc. Etc.

The NBA is serious about this rule change because it's ruining American basketball and puts too much pressure on our referees. James Harden and Trae Young will cry about it but the NBA nor the refs will care. Because you'll never be sent to the FT line again (because of horse crap jumping into Defenders playing good defense).

I love it man.

A lot of European floppers are going to hate it too.

Side swiping your arms in the defenders arms to initiate a foul. Traveling to take a step back. Traveling to take a step back then leaning into the defender chasing you. Going around a screen then stopping on a dime and moving backwards or sticking your ass out to get a defender to run into you.

$hit moves like that which should all either be illegal of no-calls.

NBA and the tv networks will be pushing hard for Nets in the Finals next year. No way do the refs enforce this with Harden.

Was there another rule about screens? I saw a lot of screeners bumping the defender into the shooter, and then getting rewarded with free throws. Should be an offensive foul.

NBA also needs to make all shooting fouls the same, except for last 2 minutes of the half. Guys relentlessly hunting fouls on 3s is also bad for the league.

Don’t get me started on that. Gallinari was getting away with setting moving picks for Trae all playoffs

About time they started using AI to call the games. Not foolproof, but at least impartial.
