Woj talked on his podcast about the Knicks becoming a real destination and felt they will attack the trade market aggressively looking for the next disgruntled star. He wasn't sure if they would be aggressive in free agency considering the contracts Ball and Schroder may require and how the Knicks seem to be more conservative when it comes to paying big bucks for non-stars. Hayward was an example of a top tier starter they wanted, but they simply didn't want to pay what he would cost, considering he's not a star player at this stage. I personally don't see the Knicks paying Ball or Schroder 25 mil a year when they can just bring back Bullock, Burks, Rose, and Noel for all under 12 mil per year. There's a good chance we may just see the Knicks return the same 9 man rotation minus Payton with a healthy Robinson (Robinson, Randle, Bullock, Barrett, Rose, Quickley, Burks, Toppin, and Noel) and fill out the remainder of the roster with rookies and 1-year free agents (not counting Gibson and Vildoza) until a star becomes available via trade. The question is who do you think that star will be?

Dame Lilliard is always mentioned. Zach Lavine's name also had some smoke, but it sounds like he wants to re-sign. Would Anthony Davis come into play with Lebron declining? He might want to play with his boy Lebron. Maybe Luca forces a trade to NY to get away from Kristaps There's always someone unexpected who comes out of the woodwork.

A few guys i'm watching closely are De'Aaron Fox, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown. It would be hard to trade with an Atlantic Conference team though. But Fox is a guy who can shake loose with another directional change in Sacramento, and he's a Kentucky guy.

I guess I could understand the Fox situation but Joel? Just haven't heard.

BEEN SAYING this for months, they are more conservative then MILLS

I don't think they will be aggressive in the trade market either seeing that they didn't aggressively pursue WB/CP/FVV/Wall.

I feel like every year Philly disappoints and there's always talk about breaking up Simmons and Embiid. Embiid has more of an outspoken personality where i think he would demand a trade eventually if things don't go well. And Embiid and Leon Rose are tight. It's more of a guess than anything. It will depend on Philly's playoff success of course.

In the unusual case CP3 doesn't resign with Phx - Booker

I think Lavine would definitely come to NY if the Knicks threw enough money at him - can't see him happy carrying the load every single night in Chi without a 2nd tier star alongside him

Want no part of Beal, Westbrook, Embiid or KAT - these are 1B players that get paid as 1A players and may be best as 1C talents on winning teams

I'd also watch out for Jamal Murray after he returns from his injury - he seems like the type of player that may want a bigger stage down the road

WB? That West-Brook?
FVV was a free agent. Good player.
If "Conservative" means "Not stupid", then that's good. John Wall would have been asinine.
RW, or Russell Westbrook is a good hindsight pick but that contract is a killer.
CP3 not a fit for our timeline last season. Your bravado insinuates you know more then our FO. Maybe even CP3 as he did not want to be here. What would you have paid in trade for CP3?
Ball and Schroder are not in the same league as the players you mentioned. You don't think Randle was not aggressive? A lot of folk were scratching their heads and "We settled after losing on Durant" kind of rants.
"Been saying" a lot of things for months.

I do get a kick that after 5 years of the process and the greatest talent aquisition phase ever seen in the NBA they have Embiid, Simmons a bloated payroll and a couple 2nd round exits.

If/When they get to the conf finals this year they will have likely had one of the easier roads there

Rockets would have handed a chip to Philly if they did a West-Brook for simmons deal, but it was the right deal for them.
Perhaps time will prove most wrong that the picks Houston got will pan out.
Simmons alone would have also looked bad for them. Kid can't shoot. Unless he does a Randle or Giannis uptick it will get old quick for him.
Embiid and Leon are tight? Does that matter anymore? Embiid rep and projected to age badly. His talent is vast. Embiid is a bonafide all NBA talent who has only played 260 games in 7 seasons.
Given his fragile nature and laid back motor I'll pass. Not on talent, on intangibles from what is publically written about him.
If Embiid is disgruntled, why is that? And if so, how much is left on his contract. This has all the makings of a last year deal and he is the final piece type of move. We not there yet.

Some of these players may not qualify as stars and I'm not sure we would want some of them; but here's a list:

Colin Sexton
D'Aaron Fox (Good call Knixkik)
SGA (maybe not next year, but soon...)
Bradley Beal
CJ McCollum (Maybe not disgruntled, but another early exit may be a reason to shake things up in Portland)
Karl Anthony Towns

Kat is interesting not for what he is, but can be. That's on him, Thibs and Payne to figure out. I get he was young and perhaps full of himself. Guys do grow up and mature.
Fox might not be unhappy as they might not enthralled with him and want to move on.
SGA will get paid soon and Thunder has a treasure chest of picks. He too from Kentucky!! What would it take? What does Thunder want?
Beal........I'll pass.
CJ is 31 and it might be time to pick and choose either him or Dame. I say they trade CJ but we not giving up RJ in my pin head mind.

I'd take a flier on an expensive free agent who you assume Thibs will have to develop defensively.

What you don't see is spend cap space AND player and draft capital on an offensive/no defense "star" who you have to assume Thibs can improve defensively.

I'm thinking guys like Lillard and Towns.

Would love to have them, hope they can improve some on D and Knicks can scheme around but if it costs $30m+ AND tons of picks AND a Quickly too, no go.

Lillard is a wonderful, offensive star. But if maybe its time to consider part of Portland's pretender status is due to and not despite his no-D skillset.

Sexton is an interesting one. He looked really good early on. I feel like next step for him is being a better playmaker..

At some the Cavs may have to make a decision. Two 6'1 guards in the same backcourt is very smallish. Garland is the better playmaker and took big step forward this season so I think they may roll with him.

I really want the make up of this team, im hoping to see the majority of these players in next year's roster. Trading for a disgruntled star will surely cost an arm and a leg. But if that is really the direction the FO wants to go I want to get Fox to solve the team's PG issues.

In an ideal world, my dream scenario for the offseason would be to sign Lonzo, Lowery or who the FO thinks can be a long term PG answer then Kahwai declines the player option to sign with the knicks. Then for the draft, package the 2 1st rounders to move up and get a shooter like Kispert or who every best shooter is available at the new spot.

Who will be the next disgruntled star?
