I think the Knicks could use this year to button up the roster and try and hold onto contract rights with team friendly contracts. With Bird rights the following year, these players can get paid a bit more without hurting the team -- next year.
1) Not opposed to D Rose getting paid, but I would ask him to accept the Early Bird exception this year knowing next year we will have Bird Rights to hold onto him next year. Let us use this year to build a stronger roster. I am sure he will have options on how to get paid, but I hope to keep him on this squad.
2) Bullock also, I would ask him to accept the Early Bird exception this year. Be part of the team going forward. Next year, when we are capped, we will still have his Bird Rights.
3) Burks may be a casualty of this offseason. He has played into a contract. I really think he will get the MLE from another capped team and will may lose him. I'd stay in the conversation, but not sure I am committing 11mm per for 2 to him. Like him, but feel like that skill set is replaceable.
4) Noel -- I have him at $10m per for 4. Won't mince over $1mm one way or the other, but I'd like to see him stay.
5) Taj Gibson -- Love Taj, but I really think he is a Vet Min player at 2.4mm.
