No it isn’t. Where did you get that idea?
The title of the thread.
It seems to imply if Noel re-ups next season there is some question about Robinson's return.
Pretty sure it was a statement and question about how to manage both guys in terms of keeping them - or managing their circumstances - on roster. There is no doubt on the options the Knicks have.
Hence my reply, Martin. Bringing back Robinson (based on the premise Noel returns) leaves Robinson back with the Knicks at $1.8m, exactly where he should be.
Given their injury histories, their historic PT averages and games, there is clearly a use/need for both of them. There is no roster duplication issue.
And the Knicks don't really save a dime by expelling Robinson. A center drafted with either of the two 1st rounders and/or a vet signing will almost certainly cost more than him.
His '21-22 salary pays '22-23 cap hold dividends.
And he still has enormous upside.
So my point is Robinson should be on the Knicks '21-22 roster regardless of whether Noel returns or not.
Given his injury history and the fact he is a season away from unrestricted free agency, his trade value may not be that high either, but even if it is that's a whole other set of circumstances to evaluate. You trade him ONLY for the value he brings back.
NOT because of Noel in any way, shape, or form.
