That’s awesome... I always thought people focused on Melo’s shortcomings as opposed to what he brought to the table. And what he brought to the table is first ballot HOF ability to score

And then another hundred to pass Moses Malone. Next victim is Shaq.

First ballot hall of famer. I wonder if he asks to go in as a Knick

If he lasts a few more seasons as a Blazer, will probably will wear two hats, Portland and NY.

Great clutch scorer, NCAA champ, OlympicMelo.

Players don’t wear hats and don’t go in associate with teams. Sure there are players that associate with a team based on career but there are so many college players, coaches, admin, sports casters etc there is no “Hat”. The honor is really about who retires his number. With Melo its possible both Knicks and Denver retire his number. Lebron should be retired in CLEV and Miami. In lakerland perhaps as well. Finals MVP get that honor. Can’t imagine there is a player not so honored with that cred by any team.

Empty stats or not, his Olympic/international play and NCAA achievements alone gets him in the Hall. His scoring stats alone gets him in.

Bring him back here? To back up who? Randle? Really, as close as Denver is to a chip off the bench and insurance for Mporter for him might be a great “coming home” story.
Back here? I’d wait to see how our roster forms. Can’t just be a “feel good story” because Thibs don’t play that game. Thibs plays to win, not “feel good”. Lets be real, the knicks expectations will be elevated and this honeymoon will change. Melo off the bench in the Burks role could be great. But look how this team has elevated without Burks heroic ball.
Superimposing Melo’s performance this year with POrtland to NY knicks next not that simple. Its a nice thought though.

I doubt Melo leaves Portland no matter what happens with Lillard.

He's on a cheap contract, he's apparently happy, and if they do trade Lillard and start a rebuild, I doubt they would force a trade.

Melo finally found himself. The pressure in NY, after it became clear that he was not the superstar who would lead the team to the titles, was too big. After the trade, his career took a downward trajectory and it seemed that he would be finished very soon.

But in Portland, as the saying goes, he “fell in love with basketball again” and finally fully embraced a role where he’s not the primary option and now finally enjoys playing basketball. I have to admit that in the offseason I thought he would return to the Knicks where he would be a great SF / PF backup, but he decided to stay in the Blazers and I would say NY is finished story for him.

But I have nothing against him. He made some wrong decisions and I generally don’t like players who have all the talent in the world but just don’t have enough focus to translate that into titles. But Melo is somehow “likable” no matter what.

Did you know that Melo won rookie of the month every month and they gave it to LBJ.

I said 10 yrs ago that Melo would never win a TITLE until he was a role player, this is the time to jump on him

I would say bring him back only if he gets real minutes. Thibs isn’t the type to play him just because it makes a good story. I wouldn’t want Melo pouting on the bench and it’s his last season in the league.

Melo won rookie of the month, every month for the western conference. LeBron won it every month for the East.

When you start a sentence with “Did you know”, and another with “I SAID, that alone is good reason to check facts. Chris Dudley had a better accuracy % from the foul line what what your fingers produce.
You can’t even hate on Lebron properly.

He would be closing in on that 8th spot right now if he would have been able to play out the season in Houston (or signed somewhere else).

It's simple; because being 4th quarter clutch for years in the NBA, dragging a defunct franchise to the playoffs and out of the first round by yourself and leading the same team in assists is the purest components of the definition of empty.

Plus that chair he dove into going after a loose ball was also empty.

We do have Melo coming off the bench. His name is Alec Burks. What exactly is the difference right now, besides the past?

Empty. I think the notion of the top 10, and for that matter top 20 are players that have at least been to a finals. Alex English and Dominique Walker being the other? Karl Malone at number two did get play in two. Iverson did make finals with Philly. Most of the players in the top have a chip to them. That Melo is so prolific and never passed the conf. finals is obvious and perhaps why he gets that label. If you look at his total his scored about 10k here, 13k in Denver and perhaps he will be associated as a Nugget given their playoff success vs. NY? Either way he earned cred and will be first ballot HOF.
That he returned after OKC and being cut by Rockets is a credit to him.
I have no issue with him returning if purposeful. While we may not see it a return to Denver would be a nice story if they in fact can make such a run to the finals.
Gallinari and Ariza too with us!! LOL
