The fixation on PG should be based on who you can get. Guys like Morant and Fox are super quick but its not like their teams are that much better because of it. Good/Great basketball players come in all shapes and sizes. Zion is the PG in NOLA for now. Brunson is a good player.IQ is doing great. Not sure I’d label him a PG given his playmaking is not great. He does what he does well and no doubt has a role. Might even be a starter. But If its him and RJ on the court I’m letting RJ facilitate/probe/Penetrate.
I think the key is facilitate. Neither of the guys orchestrate yet - and for me there is an obvious gap between the 2. Randle and RJ are stop gap and kudos to Randle for really being able to handle it but I think the offense will really hum when a real PG stops in
Great point. Big difference between those who are able to facilitate an offence ( RJ & Randle ) and those that can orchestrate ( Eg CP3 ). Can you imagine CP3 running the offence with our current roster? In theory the additional wins?
The modern NBA dictates that the pg’s of yesteryear are no longer needed. Would players such as Stockton, Thomas, Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway been anywhere near as successful if they played in the current era? Debatable.
Devil’s advocate. I see our greatest need as an orchestrator, names thrown around being, Conley, Nunn, Schroeder, Brunson. Best playmaking FA pg is Lonzo. Only knock on the kid being his mediocre J at best. Modern day pg necessity. I say roll the dice Thibs. You know I love ya.
