You know what, for the PG spot I would be even ok with 2 out of 3. But one of them skills has to be passing. Right now we only get D consistently from Elf. Lonzo would give us passing and D, not too bad. Getting a PG that does all 3 might be too difficult. There are probably like less than 10 PG in the league that consistently do all 3 at a high level.

to be a championship team you need a top 10 guy on your team - PG/SG
the seconed guy top 25 PG/SG
if one of them has am elite skill you can consider one less skill

I prefer getting a 6-8" SF and playing Barrett at the 2. You lose some of his advantage physically at the 3

RJ is not a shooter for good SG, he will get stronger and better shooting as SF, he is a strong REB and versital defender

Quickley can be the PG you’re after. We just need that elite SG. Beal or LaVine.

They need a Playmaking PG and outside shooting.

We’ve more or less needed these two things for almost 20 years

It really has been forever. We never have a hard time finding good bigs, it's the guards. But why i'm so high on Quickley is because he's both a shooter and seems like a better playmaker than advertised. He brings this at the PG position and we never seem to get that right. Right now i believe that Randle, Barrett, and Quickley are the 3 most important pieces to turning around the franchise.

We need 3-5 more quality players, or one star player and this team could make some noise.

I believe the starting lineup of Mitch, Randle, Barrett, Quickley, and an all-star guard can make serious noise. Beal is the best option out there. LaVine would do as well. Booker or McCollum too, but they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. An elite SG that is a high-volume 3pt sniper and can also create plays. That player becomes the 1st option, Randle 2nd option, Barrett settles into a well-rounded 3rd option, Quickley 4th and Mitch on clean-up. Stick a good penetrating PG with Toppin off the bench. Scoring would no longer be an issue.

My understanding is LaVine has improved as a defender, and he's played for Thibs and I guess Thibs liked him. Beal, for what it's worth, has developed a bad defensive rep this year with fans. Not sure if the numbers back it up, but neither is a good defender.

Another guy that has always intrigued me is Buddy Hield, but I understand there's a million reasons to not trade for him. I just feel like he's one of the most dynamic shooters in the league and can really bring what we lack.

In the last 40 yrs the only 2 all stars we have signed as FA was Amare and Allan Houston, Ironically, both receiving 100 mill contracts.

The only way we are getting An all star here is Via trade, I don't care if we make the playoffs and win a 1st rnd series. My thinking is I just see no history in my life time where All stars sign with NYK.

So you have to ask yourself what piece are you willing to trade, because we're not getting an all star for DSJ, frank, Iggy, and cap space, it going to have to include 1 or 2 of our young players.

Beal would probably take RJ and and a couple future 1st rndrs

no to Buddy... he's an empty stats scorer. Lavine is better than Buddy and more athletic. Neither of those guys play ANY D. Thing with Beal was he was once a good defensive player. Nobody on the NBA plays hard on D when you are 3-11 and your team is in the state that Wash is in.

I guess my thing with guys like Buddy/Zach is both are good but play the same position as RJ. While RJ is certainly not a shooter and doesnt project to be a great shooter he can be a physical force at SG and brings other things to the table. Both Zach/Buddy strike me as short term upgrades and not a big enough needle move to go after when we have RJ here. Beal is. The question is cost. Are you giving up IQ/Obi/RJ and 2 FRPs to get Beal? Dont think I can stomach that one

Its going to be really interesting what happens for sure! Knicks are in a unique position with $18mm in a cap space and an NBA post season that wont be played in front of fans. Teams might just wait and do nothing, but you might see owners pushing GMs to cut costs and the Knicks *should* have some chances

I don't think Buddy is an empty stats guy, he's an elite shooter who makes a lot of threes. We all liked Harris and Bertans as free agents and he's a lot better than them. But still, if we keep Barrett as SG, I've heard Porter's name thrown around. He's a good outside shooter and good defender. He's not a star but could be a nice complimentary starter here. Seems like a Thibs type player too.

I agree Lavine's defense while improved - still needs a lot of work. That said, I think of player value vs cost. Booker, Beal, McCollum are all more accomplished players - but keep seeing rumors that Lavine's cost would be much less than these other SGs... Lavine and RJ could switch between both positions since Lavine is a decent outside/3pt shooter. Question for me is what would the cost be to get Lavine? I agree we'd have to go give something of value up - but feel like we're too attached to anybody not named RJ and Randle. I'd part with Randle but that looks unlikely at the moment. You can only play 5 guys at a time and Thibs would probably only play 8 if he had 8 solid guys anyway. Guys like Knox, Frank, DSJr, Payton, Bullock, Burks, Toppin (so far) and even Mitch are only parts to fit around - none of them are as difficult to replace. We also have like 7 1st round picks so we could afford to lose 1-2 (Dallas ones) if it meant bringing in another offensive/outside shooting player.

Lavine - would probably cost less than the others - has improved and still fits out youth timeline
Beal, McCollum, Booker - all great but older, more expensive and would likely cost more in a trade

Also - while we're probably very committed to Toppin (since we drafted him over a clear position of need in PG) - what is his future role supposed to be? Think they didn't expect Randle to perform this well and we're planning to move him when they were drafting another PF - but he's performed very well and now may stay and get resigned. You can only play Mitch + Toppin or Randle due to defense limitations.

Agree with you on Buddy...When his shot isn't falling, he's not doing much else. No thanks, Bud.

Not concerned about Beal or any other elite wing we can bring in playing the same position as RJ as most wing spots are interchangeable. RJ is flourishing next to Bullock and Burks of late so it doesn't matter. It's never a bad thing to have multiple players who can handle the rock and create for himself and others.

Yeah at this point most of these SG/SFs are interchangeable. I like Burks. Bullock is ok. But i feel we need to upgrade the talent on the wing. To me it's more important than having a PG today.
