Let him shoot through it. He needs to adjust to the NBA 3 point line. Let's not forget that he was one of the best 3 point shooting big man in the draft.

I think he’s going to be a good shooter and needs to get his reps in preseason. Preseason is basically summer league for him. So it’s fine.

No way! Play the way you’re supposed to in games. 1-2 3 s in rhythm ok. Taking 32 foot 3 s in a game. No way. I want dunks and lay ups

32 foot 3's is no good if you don't have the personnel. We drafted 2 40%+ 3point shooters, so we can try to work that in. You are totally right with dunks and layups tho, Obi doesn't even need a PG to do any work for him as he can take it to the hole himself with his footwork. That seems to be his game: post ups and dunks from beating his man with a move or two. That and a few 3's. No midrange which is perfectly fine by me. Sabremetrics at its best.

Obi shot 39% from 3 in college. The Knicks have to make more 3’s this year

It should be 3 pointers or around the basket. No in between stuff for a guy like Toppin. Probably the thing that frustrates me about Knox and DSJ most is they love long twos, but don't make them often. Recipe for disaster. I encourage Toppin to hunt for open threes if he's not around the basket.

I have no issue with him taking open 3s. Too small of a sample set to cut him off. They really need to open the floor. We don’t have a ton of options in that sense, until we trade for Buddy Hield...

I disagree, shooters shoot thru their misses, Pre-season is for working on your all-around game and weaknesses, to say don't work on your game is wrong. His three-point shot will open more space for his inside game.

He was wide open on most all of those, Detriot was zone Ding and daring all Knicks to shoot the 3, he has to get comfortable shooting those, he can knock them down but needs to get comfortable. He is a rookie and needs to shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. I'm tired of watching passive players like Knox and Frank N passing up shots .... shoot and get better. We are not playing for a Championship, use these games to make mistakes and learn and get comfortable in the NBA for a rookie with some nerves.

Game one he killed it inside. Game two starts great. Then he went cold. Then we start a thread that he should cap it.

look, I don't want Toppin dribble, dribble, chucking threes... but he is a good three point shot. Briggs, you wer3 wo ben tout of shape over the KNicks drafting Toppin that now it seems like you just were upset about the unknown and haven't seen him play

he's a stretch four with athleticism dude. I want him to feel like he can shoot the three, so that it sets him up for blowing by defenders later. I want the defense up his ass at the arc so that he has room after he makes his cut

this is so dumb. Do we understand what's happening on the basketball floor? Toppin's job when he's NOT scoring in the post is to spread the floor. If the ball finds him 8x at the 3 point line and he's open I expect him to take 8x 3 pointers. If he's guarded or defender is closing he can swing it. Open shoot it. IS this really hard to grasp?

This shouldn’t be an argument. His best position will end up being small ball 5 or 4-5. You don’t want a player who makes high % rate 30 feet from the basket. That’s dumb? Makes no sense — the person you’re spreading the floor for his Obi?

Yes, yes it is. Cause it'll pull a big defender out of the paint. And when Obi starts to hit those shots he can put the ball on the floor and watch a defender fly by him and dunk on some dudes or find a wide open teammate when defenders have to rotate.

This is modern basketball.

Bro has got to hit them of course but the assumption is he won't go 1-6 every game.

so... should we run the ball to Obi every single time down the floor into the post? Doess THAT make sense? You understand there's 5 guys on the floor yea? You also understand if Obi just hangs where he shoots best he clogs the middle. So you know.. when RJ (who is also better at driving than shooting) attacks the basket Obi's defender isnt there hanging around. Thats why Obi moves out to spread the floor and why he shoots the 3.

This is how basketball works. If you dont have the ball you space the floor. I can see why you are confounded Thibs hasnt figured this all out yet. Its been 2 preseason games

Couldn't agree more. The long 2's are stupid and a big reason why Knox and DSJ are losing players. I don't mind Obi taking long 3's let's space it out
