I was alive when they won but being 4 years old you can’t appreciate it.
I’ve seen the Mets Rangers and UConn win championships
Not so with Jets and Mets.
I hope hope hope I can stay alive long enough to see both do that. Sports to me have been the second or third most important thing in my life. I’m sure it’s the same with many fans here( or u wouldn’t be here!)
I feel atleast for me I’m on the clock for this next cycle. I’m 52 years old abs while I do not have anything diagnosed in anyway as terminal but I do have a longer term issue(s) that has progressively got worse. I don’t know my time— if I’m lucky abs I’m here for another 15-20 years. — it gives me time to see these goals get a chance. But I know to myself that is also an optimistic timeframe. I need the K Ickes and Jets to do work in the next 5-7 years god willing. And I’m sure I’m not alone

I used to, but really for me life's about the journey rather than the destination- in some weird way I've enjoyed following the team over the past few decades even though they stunk for most of it. We might not win a championship, but I just want to watch some great players on the team competing, playing well and for us to have meaningful games and rivalries, where there's hope and excitement through the season instead of the trade deadline, the lottery and the draft being the most exiting time for us!

Briggs - I'm just a year younger, and I hear you.

I have a very vague memory from when I was little, which might have been from my parents watching the finals in 73 on tv.

Whether that is true or not, probably as close as I will come - so even if fake, I'll cherish that.

But, in terms of the Knicks winning a championship - let's game this out - I think we can be pretty accurate in the timing:

Dolan dies, team is sold, five years later, Knicks build a championship contender!

I'm partly joking, but Dolan has owned the team for what, 20 years, and for that whole time, we've been a joke?

Maybe now this is turning around, but we won't know for at least 2-3 years. We've had so many false starts.

Granted, I will give you this time seems different.

But until we start to see franchise talent, either in the pipeline or signing up in FA, we're a long way away from a championship.

My dad spent a foolish amount of money on Knicks season tickets because he witnessed the first two championships. He made the Knicks our thing... he's gone now and pretty soon the doctor is regularly going to be jamming his finger up my bum... so half of my life has been tending to this dumpster fire and I have no hope that this will get turned around any time soon.

I remember when blueseats was around and posting... everyone was like 'I will take 5 years, 10 years of garbage to have a chance at a championship' and blue was like 'I think I would rather have the ECF every year because winning it all really isn't that easy...'

I will say all this losing is changing my fandom. I cut bait early in the season if neede3d and pivot to college because let's face it, unless Obi uses the force from day one, there is no savior on the Knicks and I am starting to doubt if a chip will ever happen. I think Thibs and what we have is a good start but holy **** I am sick of evaluating starts and whether they are good or not

We just got to hope Dolan “retires”....... not even trying to be mean but so much of what is wrong with the Knicks comes down to him.

Briggs penchant for his own threads I suspect will occur in the afterlife? If anyone can start a thread from there it will be Briggs! He’l tell us about prospects him heaven we should have drafted and how much we should pay them! He’ll beg for the big guy to “release him from his heavenly contract (CAA??) if they sign with the knicks! He can be our World Wide Wes from the pearly gates!!

I noticed Briggs you did not write a note in PapaBears thread congratulating him on his resurrection but in true narcissistic manner you start your own and want some love. The man flat on his back from the hospital deserves a congratulation!

We all want to NOT DIE before experiencing a championship! Nothing exceptional. Please don’t take this as not being sympathetic regarding your plight. You been open about your journey many times which is baffling at times but we all like family after 20 years of this.
I’m at risk and am super careful. Many knick fans are at risk for covid and we might not live to see a championship.
Why not end your pity party by offering an “attaboy” to Papa.
If you fall victim to this disease I’ll give you thoughts and prayers for your recovery. I don’t want anyone anymore to die from this vascular disease! This is a hideous virus and time in our lives. Not just Dolan, but covid too!
Stay healthy!

I am old enough to remember the '73 chip. My folks used to take me to games at the Garden as a kid. Like BRIGGS, I grow impatient/determined to see another one before all is said and done. I don't mind taking time to do it, as long as we have a plan and STICK TO IT. Since the NYK have seemed to move away from the short-term starphucking, I am inclined to feel optimistic.

Oddly, I am not as big a fan of the new style of play in the NBA. It's not as gritty and exciting as it was in the last NYK contention era (i.e., Ewings days). But I'd sure like to watch meaningful post-season games in which our team competes hard with some success, even if we don 't get to the chip.

I hope for the same to see a championship. It would have been awesome if both the NY Rangers and Knicks won at the same time. The Hakeem block on John Starks will haunt me for awhile. I am glad at least I saw a few championships from the Yankees considering I saw them in the 80s where they were garbage.

Briggs I'm a bit older than you and have similar hopes.

though originally form NY i've lived in Boston for close to 40 years -- you know "title town" where they also hate NY teams and enjoy those teams' misery as much as they enjoy their home teams success.

what i now tell my friend up here is that when we win (Knicks/Jets) we'll enjoy it in ways they can only dream of. So stay true and keep believing, and enjoy the ride regardless. Wishing you the best of health

No arguement here.

1. Nobody wants to die.
2. Nobody comes to ultimate knicks.come and wants to NOT win a chip!!!!

But I dont just want some one off starphuch where we some how get a bunch of players on one or two year contracts, trade 7 years of picks/swaps,, got to finals, then had another 10 years of misery. I want a team. Part of it in grown players, trades, and FA’s. What LA did this past season to me was not that great.
What GSW did before Durant got there mattered and that he joined mattered because the core of the team, the heart and soul existed. I don’t begrudge AD and Lebron, or the Lakers but as a fan I would think as chips go its not as “organic”. I think Nets run this risk but NY is starved for glory and they will pick up a lot of new fans. If they don’t get Harden and the Core of Nets team stays intact (Dinwiddie, Lavert, Allan and Harris) with Durant and Kyrie and one of those true nets rise that could be a cool thing. Get Harden, its a starphuch. I hope we don’t do this.
I dig what GSW has done, MIlwaukee, Miami, and Boston.
I too was too young to appreciate the 1970 season but I suffered in 71 and 72. I saw enough change and bonded with those players as a kid. When we won in 1973 it was fantastic! Fans that rode the growth of those young knick teams in 68’ and 69’ with the celts in decline felt it was special but it was not easy.
I dig that Mav’s fans stuck with dirk and they finally won! That mattered.
All in all the journey matters.
When the Knicks lost in 1994 I still got up with the baby and then off to work. Win or lose my life was not going to change. It sucked they lost but it was fun! When I look back it was a blast to see Ewing evolve, Starks and Mase come from oblivion to relevance, Riley take over and change the team, etc.
Bernard King was here a very brief time and we really did not accomplish much but his star rose and we made a nice playoff run. It was fun.
Linsanity was fun.
Melo’s magic season was fun winning 54 games.
1999 improbable run was fun.
How is it not fun to see Frank, or Dennis, or Knox, or Mitch blossom? If not, others!
We have picks. They might be fun.
Its the journey that matters. Chips validate the supreme winning conclusion but if we only measured the seasons by chips then we miss so much.

Thank you for that. You are spot on. And it's a healthier approach to this thing called life. The learning lesson is in the journey. And that's one thing I've learn over the years, is the journey is much more valuable than the end result.

I also hope the entire knick fan base stay healthy during these times. I lost a sister. Pap is recovering...and I hope he's doing better. But it's good to have a forum where we can release without judgement. And for years, I've always wanted a place to go where I can talk knicks, without some jackazz saying why are you a fan of the knicks? or you like that team? But if and when they start winning, the noise will get quiet.

I'm just enjoying the moment....the potential....and excited about the unknown for this new management and players. Because of the knicks, I tend to follow and root for the underdog, in all sports. Because I appreciate the struggle.

Stay healthy. Regardless of your age, if we learned anything about this pandemic, we must put health 1st.

Yeah, I think most people are selfish and only care about themselves. But only a few are blessed to have empathy, class and confidence in themselves, where they can support people like Papa. While the rest are still struggling and searching for self love. Sometimes it comes with age and maturity. But sometimes it doesn't come at all. The blessing is within knowledge of self and awareness of others and just being humble. But on a separate note.....YOU OLD BRIGGS. lol. Just kidding. You only a few years older than me. So you not alone. Keep holding onto those good memories of the knicks in the 90s.....I was born during the championship run, but I was even younger than you, I was only a few months old during that chip (lol).
