Never ideal to slide back, but this draft is such a crapshoot. I think trading up for Ball is less likely. Too many spots to move up. Haliburton and Toppin (CAA guys) probably gone. One of them would have been available had we stayed at 6, but I don’t expect it at 8. I expect them to sell themselves on Cole being a marketable player and having the mental makeup and enough scoring/shooting to compliment Barrett in the backcourt despite being more of a combo guard. I think we probably grab a Teague or Augustin type to pair with Cole until he’s proven to be ready. Cole Anthony will likely be the fan favorite and probably won’t be a flop. At worst he’s a good 6th man which is ok at 8. At best he’s a scoring guard in the Jamal Murray mold.

Outside of name recognition I don’t understand how Cole is in anyone’s top 20.

No way the Knicks take him at 8.

He came into the year as a potential number one pick. Got hurt in the middle of the season and came back to play hurt only to see the season cut short before he could get fully healthy. It’s been well documented he had a bad supporting cast as far as talent and shooting. Are you sure there’s enough evidence to not trust his talent ?

going back to the pre nc days and well before the injury.
cole anthony was a top 3 prospect. i feel better that this group of knicks execs will be able to tell if its worth drafting that guy or the one who fell to earth in one rough season on a bad knee. the biggest knock on him even from high school was not being able to get his team mates involved enough. his scoring and athleticism made up for it. if you saw how he came back early, even when he was not yet 100 percent, that showed me he cares about his team even if it ended up hurting his stock.

No interest in him. Maybe if he somehow falls to 27.

Okoro, Vassel, Nesmith in that order. The runts of the litter, but Isaac got some big paws. Also, wouldn't mind Cole. His shooting stats weren't great, but there were some extenuing circumstances.

Let me ask it differently: what has he shown to warrant a top 10-15 pick? Poor teammates aside, whats he done? Sure didn’t make any of them better. Poor assist to TO. Poor shooting.

It's a good question. He did show elite penetration ability, the ability to push, create in the mid range area, defend and hit spot up threes. Is that enough to override his bad counting stats? Don't have a clear answer to that. I trust man Perrin to vet him. At least I'm confident he won't pick him because he beat Killian Hayes in a one on one.

Not feeling Cole at all.

Plenty of good players have been picked 8 and later We just need a good eye. I would target a shooter. Klay and booker both picked after 10

If the knicks are determined to pick a PG at 8, i find Kira Lewis Jr more appealing than Cole Anthony. He might be a reach at 8. I feel like we are in the same situation as last year with Cole, project top 3-5 then he fizzled out. Im happy with RJ but he was the consensus-#1 pick before Zion entered. Its like with Cole, we are just settling with him.

Best of those (can't decide which that is)

Also look into Kira Lewis

I like Cole Anthony, but he has not proven that he has the ability to lead an offense, and if he can't do that, then you are essentially drafting a 3rd guard/bench scorer, which is probably less than we want out of the 8th pick. I would feel safer with Okoro, Vassel, or Neismith at 8. At least, you have confidence in what you are getting with them, and they all could fill the hole at 3 that we currently have (assuming Knox does not prove he is a starter or they move Knox to the 4).
Trust the Process

I said the same thing here

Anyone who wouldn’t consider Cole at 8 is insane. People just want to say no thanks to the preseason #1 overall? If you’re not into him, fine, but it is a mistake you write him off... He had a pretty bad year, but no tournaments to redeem himself. And as a result, I think he’s fallen a lot farther in the rankings than is normal. But he still went for 24/11/4 against Duke. His TSP was 53.4. He’s one of the only PG that fits nicely into the “scoring PG“ bucket. He is not just an undersized SG

He has not done anything other than a few big games. But my concern is writing off the top ranked prospect coming into the year with the 8th pick because of a smaller sample size of games that can be easily explained (injury and poor supporting cast.) look at his numbers compared to Donovan Mitchell’s in college. No one can deny Coles talent. I agree he hasn’t proven anything but we are picking at 8 and in a poor draft it might be easier to gamble on the talent. Think of it another way. If we draft Nesmith or Vassell and they become good role players than that’s great. But if you pass over Cole Anthony and he becomes a star, it’s a repeat of 2017 and we can’t afford that. And Cole Anthony at 8 is much more justifiable than Mitchell was at 8 in 2017.

Completely agree with all of this. I’m not so concerned with his position either. We are asking RJ to be a playmaker so Cole not being a pure PG is fine. I like the versatility of them sharing the backcourt or sliding to the 2 and 3 and playing next to Ntilikina or another PG at times.

I said this before we drafted Frank at 8, Its a horrible spot to pick at.

Knicks need to trade up, down, or out fck that #8 pick,

People supporting Cole Anthony remind me of the folks supporting DSJ prior to his draft. The whole "ignore his college performance, look at who he was in high school" thing. I didn't watch him play this season so I have no opinion, but he seems to have significant red flags that some want to disregard because of high school. If anything, maybe we should find a way to move up with that Clipper pick if we really want him.
