I cant wait for Thibs to be officially named the head coach and have an official interview as the head coach. I want to hear his honest opinion of the knicks' current roster, what he thinks about players like Knox, DSJ, Iggy and Dot. Was he clearly sold by the front office as a rebuilding team or a team who is actually looking for a spot in the play off next year. Answers to these questions will give us more or less a preview of the next steps the front office will take in the offseason.
I honestly hope that the front office hold on to Dot and see what he can do with some mentoring from Thibs. I do hope that all of last year's 1yr free agency signing except for Taj are not picked up. I hope the front office will still go for the slow burn approach. I know they want to hire Woodson and retain Miller, but i hope Thibs can still bring in 3 more assistants of his choosing. Im hoping one of them can be a very good offensive strategist.
Im happy with this hire as long as everyone(from the coaches to the fans to the new york media) have been briefed of the teams immediate goal for next year and the year after. Setting a realistic expectation to the new york media is key for this hiring to work. Even before the announcement, the media is expecting very high expectations for next year if the knicks hire Thibs. Here we are now! Those expectations are just flat out impossible to achieve and the new york media will surely make a spectacle out of it if the team just marginally improves. The Twolves made the playoffs on Thibs second year, a team that has Kat, Wiggins and Butler. The knicks are still far from that team at this point.
