"People are not going to come here because it's the same thing over and over and over." - Charles Oakley

People keep talking about some free agent, or some draft pick, or some coach, as if any of that is going to change the problem with the team. As long as you support the Knicks, and James Dolan, they will be losers. Not for the next few years, but for decades.

I don't think it's a big ask that customers come through the correct door (and not the employees one- good luck finding any other place you can just walk freely through the employee entrance) and refrain from hurling abuse at the owner of the building.

Martin, this is your site. I've been coming here for 16 years. The anger is that no matter what James Dolan does to ruin the team, fans keep defending him. 100% of the fans should be outraged how they treated Spike Lee, because it hurts the team. It's unnecessary. Saying "He shouldn't get preferential treatment, he is not special" is super missing the point. This incident with Spike Lee kills the Knicks. In the eyes of fans, in the eyes of players, in the eyes of the league and the media. You can keep claiming that you don't care, but this is why the Knicks have the worst record in the last 20 years.

I guess maybe Martin, my anger is that fans keep giving Dolan passes and accepting the team as it is. Writing silly "If we can just sign" posts, and me knowing full well no one is signing here. No one of value. It's sad knowing that no matter how bad James Dolan is, no matter how bad the Knicks are, no matter how much a loser they will be and whatever bad things they do, there are still people who look the other way and pretend it will get better.

Charles Oakley is saying it won't. Looking away is not an option anymore. And anyone who would rather talk about the draft, or who is playing well or not, is missing the point of the problem that is James Dolan and how much he's destroyed the Knicks franchise.

You know what? You're right. It's stupid for me to try to convince people to stop supporting James Dolan's Knicks. Whoever wants to support them, and accept all the **** they do, and their losing for the next decade, you deserve them.

it is stupid. Going to a Knick fan site to spread hate on the Knicks is really phucking stupid. Nobody here "supports Dolan" so stick that up your cranky tush also. Lots of teams have bad owners. Be frustrated. Lashing out at Knick fans for continuing to follow the team is absurd. Hope your day brightens up. Seriously I do. This is a lot of negative energy around a sports team. Its supposed to be fun dude.

I don't know why you would bring up the fact that this is my site, has nothing to do with anything. To be clear: I have not engaged you or anyone else differently on this topic, just a guy with an opinion.

What you are asking is that everyone should have the same opinion as you and seem to be questioning why we don't.

I am not defending Dolan but I can surely question the hell out of Oak or Spike, can't I? Doesn't mean I'm defending Dolan or don't think he/MSG shouldn't act differently.

If I enter thru a wrong entrance, I smile, turn, and get some steps in. Life is good. Spike looks like he needs the extra steps. Spike went on TV and acted like a petulant child.... same petulant child as Dolan is.

We all realize Spike lied to us in this whole thing, right? Flat out lied that Dolan never shook hands or walked up to him at half time? These are things that you don't forget and yet Lee did. The owner of the building made time to try to smooth things over (probably at the urging of others). No idea how crass he was or if it was enough.

I'd like the Knicks to get better so I don't waste more time watching them. What Oakly, Spike or anyone else does or says won't effect that.

Honest question: Does anyone think Dolan woke up one day and thought to himself: That Spike guy has been entering through the wrong entrance of MY building for years now and I'm going to do something about it?

I mean, maybe he did create the toxic environment or something but to personally blame Dolan seems odd to me

Anything negative associated with the MSG will fall on DOLAN.

It's unfortunate that that's the case, but the media is circling around MSG like sharks

I really don't like Dolan's personality (how it's presented - never met him). He seems like the kind of guy that you are either on his good side or toast (his bad side). I've also heard Dolan can be extremely generous, kind (eg lent T.Chandler his plane for family reasons).

People should be judged on their behavior and treatment of people.

I think in both the Spike Lee and Oakley incidents there was fault on both sides. No one wants to get yelled at all game (Oak) and if the policy is (or changes) about where to enter - no one is above this and should simply comply. I suspect they told Spike prior and he probably decided it was more convenient to enter where he was used to entering. As long as the rule was changed and enforced for all celebs - it's just a policy change and should be followed. Making many great movies shouldn't change entitlement. So while Dolan probably turned a small incident into a bigger issue (by how he mishandled it) - there is responsibility on both Oak and Spike as these incidents started with their behavior/actions first...

Marc Berman
@NYPost_Berman
I’ve heard lots of negative things said about James Dolan across my time, but never “racist”. In last 20 years, Knicks had either black president, GM or coach in all but 3 of them. And for nine seasons straight. I don’t get Oakley’s “plantation” remarks.

Papabear Says

If Dolan purposely had his security to stop Lee who was using this way for 20 years then I have a problem with it. I'm sure Dolan or one of his people should have reached out to him ahead of time. Spike Lee is almost like a 6th player on the Knicks. As far as Oakley is concern he was pissed off ever since he was traded by Dolan. and MSG is not the only place that Oakley has gotten thrown out. My take is whats the big deal after 20 years now they stop Spike Lee. It don't make since unless they were ordered to finger Lee. and if thats the case then I will loose a little respect for Dolan. I think Dolan needs to stand up and address this in public. If he does not then he will just have another strike against him.

I think people forget charles oakley shoved a security guard the night that oakley got arrest. If you shove a security guard or police officer your going to get arrested for simple assault.

oak went to far to compare him to sterling. "Like lynchings in the 1940's-50's".
Dolan is a control freak, panic monger, bad manager, but never read anything like Racist.
He supports Trump. Not all Trump supporters have the same agenda's. Oak wanted things form Dolan and when he could not get them he got ugly.
Spike did not want to leave the building and he kind of over reacted. Ya think? To his benefit I would question how long did it take for him to start yelling and bring up Oakley?
Did he go full diva or
Im not saying the knicks are not at fault to some degree, but isn't this all a bit over the top?

I loved Oak as a player back in the day but I’m so sick of people playing the race card when they don’t get what they want. Dolan is a jerk we all know that but saying the Knicks are a “plantation” is just so stupid

Totally agree

Love oak they player, but never looked at him as an intelligent person.

ESPN went to OAK so they can stir the pot, Lets interview anyone who had an issue at MSG

I'll bet 10 million dollars that Anucha Browne turned ESPN down for an interview..she probably got a gag order after the settlement

Yeah...not to mention the part about being drunk and belligerent in the crowd. Dolan is thin skinned
and can't take ridicule. This is documented. But there is still a behavioral expectation when you go to the game. Yanking a kid for yelling sell the team? Overboard. Kicking out an intoxicated spectator whose trying to pimp slap security? Reasonable in my opinion. I sided with Oak on this until the casino incident. He has shown a consistent behavior. Still want Dolan to sell, just not going to jump on this narrative that Oak is a victim.
Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick
