The Knicks have registered interest with Golden State about trading for D'Angelo Russell, league sources confirm.

It's unclear how far along talks have gone, but Bobby Portis is one name that came up in the conversations, per SNY sources.

Per SNY sources, Frank Ntilikina's name has also come up in conversations between the Knicks and Warriors around Russell.

Some people around Russell said over the summer that he was open to the possibility of signing with New York because he liked the city and he was intrigued by the idea of competing so closely with the Nets -- the team that decided to sign Kyrie Irving instead of bringing him back.

I like him next to RJ, and if they want Portis, Frank and Payton, that's a good deal. Plus they will have a top draft pick, upgrade the back up pg. Think frank around curry and klay would be good for him

You think we can obtain a young all star player for Portis, Frank and Payton? Portis and payton are free agents.
That's it? or we gonna "Throw in one of the Dallas picks" cuz its so easy?
Of course I do that all day long. Im thinking its not a good return for Warriors. Your going to have to give an up an unprotected pick. I don't let any pick out the door that's not at least a top 3-5 protection.
Maybe I do this year. Russell is a nice piece but you can't trade for potential franchise player, so you have to protect the pick. This year is not so great.
Warriors will be back in win now mode next year. Maybe they want to trade their pick???

Russell is a good young scorer. He's not worth much more than Portis/Elf/Frank because of his contract. $120mm for 4 years (3 more) for a guy who's good. Not to be confused with GREAT. Frank is the role player I would want to keep because Russell and RJ are both highly suspect defenders. Would be nice to have a guy coming off the bench with some defensive chops

David Lee was a "young all star"

Russell's impact is not the highest.

more I think about Russell the more I dont like the idea.

He's a TO prone jump shooter who doesnt get to the rim much, the line much or play much defense and gets paid like a star. Pass. Prove me wrong. Elf/Portis/Dotson and one of the Dallas picks with lottery protection or they get a future 2nd rounder. Let him go to Sota where he can KAT can average 30 a piece and win 40 games a year.

2 dallas picks Frank, Portis, Trier, and Ellington.

Russell/Payton
Haliburton/Bullock
Barrett/Knox
Morris(resign)/Randle
Gibson/Mitch

Question is: Does GSW go for it...prolly not idk.

It's not easy finding Guards that can score like Russell and defend like kawhi.

his defense is worrisome (which is one of the reason a KLay, Curry, Russell will not work)

But if we do get Russell, you still have the draft and some cap space to bring in a complimentary piece. Than Nail that Big fish in 20/21.

AD may look at russell as a nice young Guard to come play with

I wouldn’t be surprised if the warriors go for this deal I don’t think you can do much better for a guy who’s going to be a free agent next year .... we’d have to get a promise from Russell and his agent that he’d be resigning with us

I thought you valued "winning culture"

He's been on terrible teams. If Russell is your best player you are peaking at 40ish wins and the 7-8th seed every year. Why?

The absolute minimum would have to include our first rounder for this year (unprotected)- no thanks! The warriors have an even worse record than us despite having a better system and better coach, DLo has done nothing to make that team win, why would it be any different here?

My reaction to the idea of trading for Russell is that it’s a bad idea cause this year’s draft is top
heavy with good point guards.

Exactly, plus how long would he be happy here with all the losing?

Can't say its a "Smart Move" unless you know the price. Portis, Payton and Frank is way to light. Of course you do that move. GSW I doubt is in any hurry and they can always do a draft night deal. By then Draft pick order is known and value of picks to trade can be measured by the draft potential.

That's a very good point and one that is answered when you know where your drafting. It makes sense for both teams to not make that deal until after the season. Im for sure down with the "Simple" 1248 trade idea if there is any shred of that being something available but it seems likely to be light in my amateur estimate.

No way in hell are we getting Russ for that package. This yrs unprotected 1st would get the Warriors to answer the phone and then you start from there. Portis and Payton are 2 average journeymen who walk this summer. So going into next season, Frank will be the only player under contract for the Warriors. That trade as it
stands is laughable.

Russell is signed for 4 years and $117mm.

GS trades him for expiring contracts because they realize that deal is stupid and likely isnt getting better offers in the offseason when EVERY team is going to know they are desperate to trade him with Curry/Klay coming back.

Best bet with DRuss is expiring deals and a guy like Dotson.

Don't know. It's a known secret that Minnesota desperately wants D-Lo. There is definitely going to be a bidding war if we continue pursuit.
