I bet you all the people that was fed up of Ewing, and was done with Melo are regretting the process.

We may have not won rings with them, but we were very relevant. If the knicks put the right players around them, perhaps the results would have been different.

Maybe now some of you realize how hard it is to pluck out that 1 special college player like a Ewing or a Melo, the longest tenured knicks in over 35 yrs..

Those 2 are NY icons because they with stood all the bull sht ppl said about them just to keep NY on The map

Both were one of the main reasons the organization was unable to "put the right players around them".

More than a few stars took big paycuts to help build a contender (see Dirk) to win a chip. Melo got a near max deal, an NTC, a trade kicker. Made it hard to add anything but retreads. Melo went for the $$$$ when others went for the ring.

Melo should get a standing O for his time as the franchise player in NY, but Im not as sentimental about his return as some other fans. Melo got what he really wanted from his time in NY. Its a business, dont blame him. Dont believe he got shafted either.

I agree about the last contract Melo signed. Prior to that management had mismanaged the cap and assets. Trading picks and young players to clear cap space, signing Amare all happened before Melo got to NY. He was in his prime when the Knicks got him. I thought he was going to win the mvp in 2012 until DWight almost ended his career. The last deal that Phil signed him to was a bad deal.

Agree about the distinction. I got why Melo forced a trade to NY during the season. Waiting would have left a lot of money on the table. This was his chance for generational wealth. After he got that, and all his other income, I didnt get him going so hard for a big payday. He knew it would be harder to recruit because others would have to bite the bullet, so to speak. Other stars put their money where their mouths were.

I'm all for giving the Anthonys a warm welcome.

Knicks were relevent in his tenure? Define this Relevancy? By What measure? Certainly more then than now. I"ll give you that.
I bet you they are not all regretting. We treated Ewing just fine over the years. He wanted out. Don't forget that. He regrets it, but whats done is done.
I would not put Melo and Ewing in the same category. Ewing was drafted by us and stayed enought to build a strong HOF resume and a trip to the finals. He deserves his Jersey retired in MSG.
Melo also a HOF player but his knick resume is not the same as Ewing. You want to stand for Melo? Go ahead. I've been to some ****ty broadway shows and they give a standing ovation too. Standing overtations are often given out gratuitously. If the fans want to pay respect to Melo I see no issue with it. Maybe more so that the cranky rainman is imporloring me to stand and cheer.

I never like the Oakley trade of giving the Chicago Bulls Bill Cartwright to win THREE consecutive Championships.
Ewing was not going to win a championship having Oakley in the lineup.
MJ & Pippin had problems winning in the playoff having Oakley in their lineup.

Head coach Pat Riley took Ewing to the FINALS having (RIP) Anthony Mason in the lineup.
Pat Riley reduce Oakley playing-time minutes to win games having Anthony Mason in the line.
Ewing close friendship to teammates Oakley & Starks became a big problem, because Qakley was a BUM in the playoffs, and Starks were inconsistent in the playoffs.
I didn't want to trade Ewing, but his season pouting over the trade of Oakley & Starks needed to be punish and reprimanded after his action and Performance did a 360 degree turn to save JVG coaching job.
Camby was 50 times better than Oakley, and Sprewell were 100 times better than Starks.

The Knicks owner Dolan made the DUM foolish move of bringing the NBA worst performing post-season player to the Knicks Mr. Carmelo Anthony.
When it came to the post season Playoffs Oakley & Melo's career NBA performance were BUST !!!

Melo's tenure here was such a mixed bag. Sure, he was a star. But he always looked to get paid first and foremost. His last deal was killer to our flexibility. He did no favors for the FO.

Now had he taken less money on his last deal, might we been able to do anything with it to win? Probably not.

He's not anything like Ewing.
