Grumbling about minutes already

https://www.sny.tv/knicks/news/sources-theres-been-early-grumbling-among-some-knicks-about-role-with-the-team/311205808

No matter who he plays on a given night, there will be several players left out of the rotation who came into the season expecting to play. So it shouldn't be a surprise that, per SNY sources, there has already been some grumbling about minutes/roles.

Players not being thrilled about their minutes/roles is pretty common in the NBA. All coaches/teams deal with it to a certain degree. But the idea that the Knicks have so many players who - from the outside at least - can make a case for a spot in the rotation makes this something to keep an eye on.

There's 8 guys who will play regardless of what

Randle
Taj
Portis
RJ
Morris
wayne
payton
Mitch

will get sporadic DNP-CD

Dsj
knox
frank
trier

will only see time if injuries occur

Dotson
iggy
bullock

Fiz said he's only playing 9 to 10 guys a night unless foul trouble occurs, he also said no one's role will be perm unless they earn it.

This is going to be troubling, because nothing hurts a teams chemistry more than players who are confused about their roles and minutes. That's when trade request starts, and locker rooms splits

It’s going to be very difficult for him. This year youth movement is going to suffer big time and we will start to see it dwindle towards vet play and start to see younf players given up on. You can see where this is going. We said this time and time before the Knicks do not develop players well.

They took a coaches poll around the NBA, and they flat out said fiz has the toughest job this season, to try and keep 9 vets happy, and still develop young guys who need 25 minutes per..

I can tell from his recent comments, that he is going to do the same thing he did last season, some guys will play some games and some won't. It is not fun to play when your role is not identify, or the fact that you that you may get yank after a couple of mistakes

For the past few coaches we've had, we've failed to give any of them a starting quality PG to work with, so all of them have struggled to implement any kind of offensive system. As long as Mills and Perry are here I think he gets to see at least his third year through. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets fire Morey at the end of the year (think the owner wants rid of him sooner but can't due to the China debacle and how it would look) and Dolan ends up replacing Perry and Mills with him. Like Dolan, he loves stars and has a good reputation with his analytics. I don't like him at all (think he's really gone off the boil the last few years) so I hope it doesn't happen

I think the F.O overplayed their hand a bit. I get that most of these guys are on 1 year deals, so they will either walk in the summer or get traded at the deadline, but at what cost?

Guys who I thought were a part of the future; Iso-Zo in particular will have their development and experience stunted due to lack of playing time. With that said, Iso-Zo may be gone in the summer too and I would hate to see him leave as his game is valuable coming off the bench. Ellington and Bullock will cut into Zo's mins....Payton will probably cut into one of DSJ or Franks minutes as well. I think the F.O wanted to sign some vets to get a winning culture established but it may backfire.

I agree with you the front office over did it with their acquisitions. They added to many vets. Felt the should have just added Randle and Gibson. Someone mentioned VC would have been a nice add. Payton to me was a Perry special no rhyme or reason a token addition for being his past pick like Hezonja.

Fizdale just needs to be make a stand and pick his guys for the rotation and go from there. He needs to stand by his decision. Just like in football if you have more than 1 QB then you don't have one. Pick your 10 man rotation and go from there.

Agreed, especially when it comes to the pg position....IMO, Fiz needs to turn the ball over to DSJ for the whole season, not 5 games, or 10 games but the entire season. Let him either fall flat on his face or excel and secure the job. We need to know for sure if we have our future point guard already here, or do we need to cut ties this summer and draft one.

Frank, not Payton or Ellington needs to be the first guard off the bench...He needs 25 mins per so he can develop and settle into a role. Neither Morris, Taj, Portis or Ellington will be in the blue and orange 2-3 years from now. Giving these guys mins can cost us a valuable young piece (Iso-Zo) moving forward due to lack of development and commitment to them.

think about the bold. If you are RJ, Mitch, Randle or anyone else, why do you have to suffer through a whole season of DS either figuring it out or not? How is RJ's development helped by that? How Mitch/Randle grow if the guy cant run a good P&R? I totally disagree and think the best players should play and that likely means the vets. These guys are stop gaps and could very well be gone at the deadline. I am not worried about Knox or Trier riding some early pine. They are gonna get tons of burn.

Now we have some stuff to observe. Perry got Fizdale some guys. Lets see how the team comes around. Early sched is very tough.

SOOOO uncalled for.

Last year 1248 said Trey Burke was the man who was gonna lead us. Year before that Derrick Rose was the guy we needed. Its the internet. Have fun.

btw Vmart.. 1248 hates Frank and thinks he sucks. Calls Frank total garbage and a waste. Its true. Ask him.

and first play better before that. Only 3 preseason games but guys like Randle/Morris/Taj have especially helped. Ball moves better. Screens are better. Boxing out. Better defense... I mean these guys arent winning us a title but like you said we gotta win some games and play better basketball.

They saturated the positions to the point where coach is going to get paralyzed in decision making.
