Who starts vs. SAS??
Before camp stars early guess.
No info or hedging. We get the Fully potential Smith? Is Dot even healthy?
Does Trier have any money left? We get Shy Frank or FIBA Frank?
Is Barrett a monster out of the gate or does Fiz ease him in?
Peyton-DSjr
Dotson-DSjr
Frank-DSjr
Trier-DSJr
Barrett-DSjr
Peyton-Ellington
frank-Ellington
Barrett-Ellington
Trier-Barrett
Frank-Barrett
Dotson-Peyton
Frank-Frank (so good he needs no parter)
Man, too many combos and can’t decide...

You forgot Trier and Frank. I think that’s actually possible. What if DSJ comes to camp and his shot still sucks and is playing way too stupid? People are just assuming he’s going to take a giant leap forward. Assumptions are the mother of all f’ ups remember.

Frank is the one guy who played really serious competitive ball this Summer. He showed improvement. We also basically know what we are getting from Trier. Heck, we know what we are getting from Elfrid. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Frank starts with Elfrid backing up if Dennis $hits the bed.

To start the season, Frank, Trier, Morris, Randle and Mitch can actually work if DSJ sucks (Granted, everyone can suck.) That’s 5 guys who at least have defensive ability. 2 guys who have scoring mentalities and hopefully Frank can be more reliable spotting up or driving to the hoop when needed while setting his teammates up. Barrett, Knox and DSJ are knocking on the door.

gonna wait for more info and hedge my bet in the meantime.

I think its DSjr and RJ starting. Unless RJ has a really slow camp he's easily the most talented backcourt player we have, and can play off the ball and run plays. DSjr has said he wants RJ to win ROY and would see that as a personal achievement by elevating the play of a teammate. RJ is also very long and DSjr is very strong. Both should be bringing good things to the defensive table.

Which is why I think those two start. Also it allows Fizdale to push those guys defensively as Dotson/Frank/Payton/Ellington are all waiting to get minutes and are "regarded" as better defenders.

I just want to see Frank/Mitch defend the pick and roll. OH boy

Sorry about the "Trier-Frank" combo. Its actually not bad.
Fiz from what I recall reading really wanted to give Frank and DSjr minutes based on potential last season down the stretch.
That will get a look. Hahn had a good take on the video that its better for him to come off the bench and then start right away. The whole "Savior-Messiah" NY hype but then tear him down if it don't work right away would be awful to occur. If he tears it up, he'll get the nod.
So many combo's.

Funny, that shot of Barrett dunking with his shirt off revealing that muscle group in his back had me thinking he is more a SF. can't say this high potential line up of

Mitch
Randle
Knox
Barrett
DSjr

would be super fun but I think of Morris stewing on the bench and fear what becomes of Knox in practice!
I wonder if Randles contract is the time line from when Knox becomes a stretch PF?
Is Dotson even going to be ready after shoulder surgery?

Morris is a legit starter in the NBA for a playoff bound team. Plays both ends of the court well. Prototype roll player.

In what world does Knox beat him out of that starting lineup?

Wouldn't it be better for Knox to come off bench and play against second stringers?

Hahn raved about DSJ’s summer in the season preview he did with Knicks Fan Tv. He sounded like he had first hand knowledge of the work Smith was putting in. I think he is the starting point guard.

More so give him something to shoot for. Knox will now see how hard he needs to work consistently. If Morris is helping the Knicks win more games then Kevin will see exactly how hard and smart he needs to consistently play and work in order to get in the starting lineup, for good.

I think it will be the same for Barrett. We know that Trier will be a super aggressive scorer. He can actually possibly even get 18-20 a game this year if he gets that green light. However, Barrett will take that starting spot when he can show to be a somewhat reliable shooter, hardworking defender and smart passer. That may take time and it will be fine. He doesn’t have to be awesome right away. Randle is the one I expect to be pretty close to awesome, off the bat. He should be an all star.

PG? Hahahahahahahahaha. If I am right and it’s to the point that Dennis has to fight for playing time then we should just trade him ASAP. Those videos of him this Summer mean zilch to me.

As fish pointed out, Smith jr said that he wanted to help Barrett win the ROY. He's going to be setting up Barrett for corner 3s, in transition. If Barrett takes advantage of the oppotunity, I see them starting. Smith was fast even with back issues. In top condition, he is going to demand a lot of attention fron defenses. Has the skills to find Barrett in traffic.

Better job at getting buckets? Knox can get hot in a hurry. If the defense is respectable, believe he has a shot.

MOrris as SF next to Randle? I see Morris as a PF. He is like 6-10 right? Can he play the 5?

Getting hot is not what I think about. I care about how he plays when he’s not hot. Most NBA players can get hot. Did Knox get hot frequently? The overall numbers don’t seem to suggest so.

I love the guy but Knox has A LOT to prove. Just because he was the starter on the worst team in the NBA last year and he has potential doesn’t mean he should get that this year. Let him look up to Morris for awhile. He needs it.

Got hot enough as a rookie in a game last season, which only LeBron could equal at the same age. Knox has shown he can put points on the board in short order. Not everyone in the league can do that. That is beyond silly. We're still waiting on Frank.

Of course Knox cant be a black hole on offense. If he can put points on the board and defend well enough to be a starter, I believe Knox has a chance. He was the youngest (or second) in the league, and got his ass kicked going against starters, All-Stars. Didnt get down, kept plugging away. You're suggesting that Morris should just be handed the job, and Knox should sit. Would rather it be an open competition.

Im high on Knox. I think he's got a nice future. He's got a nice shot, is very aggressive and has awesome physical tools. Morris is a quality player on playoff teams. He's here to be an example and hopefully its a good one. He's a very complete player both ends of the floor and can play either fwd position. Fizdale will be under a lot of pressure to get the team looking like a team and less like a whole year of training camp like last year. That will mean establishing rotations, roles and expectations early, and I dont see how he accomplishes that without 30 minutes of Morris a night.

The perfect Knick world is Morris plays well, the guys behind him also play well and we move Morris to a playoff team for an asset at the deadline and elevate whoever is behind him be it Knox or another guy.

Over the summer Macri did a podcast with a guy that covers the Celtics. They talked a bit about Kyrie and then Morris. The Celtic guy raved about Morris as a teammate, leader and a professional. Prior to listening to the pod, I was all in on moving Morris for a pick. After hearing it, I thought it might be more valuable to keep him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Morris was named a captain.

On the odd chance that Morris doesn't start (I don't see how he backs out of the Spurs deal to come here and not start). Knox would still have to beat out possibilities of Payton-Smith-Barrett backcourt. Or Smith-Trier-Barrett backcourt etc etc.

There is also no rush to force feed Knox mins either unless he kills it in training camp showing a more complete game. He can be given a specific role to spread the floor with his shooting while working on exanding his game in practice all year. He is still only 20 yrs old.

MOrris as SF next to Randle? I see Morris as a PF. He is like 6-10 right? Can he play the 5?
