Wonder if we oould get a crowdfund or gofund campaign to raise the money needed. Each Knick fan could contribute $10 or hope there are 3,000 Briggs superfans out there to fund the campaign :)

And Briggs will be chairman?
And then we will want Dolan back.

Seriously zo it's a business.
There was emotional attachment form him to Knicks and bbal (unfortunately).
But it seems to fade away as it was bringing only disappointments.
Also MSG land lease is due soon enough and building new Arena will need a lot of doh.
So if price will be attractive (4.5 bills should be good enough) Kinick will change hands.
May be Putin will buy it...

Is Dolan really the problem? Perhaps. But the one good thing he has always been willing to do is spend as much as he possibly can for his team. Money has never been an issue. Unlike the Wilpons and the Mets. That is wayyyyy worse.

At this point with Dolan now stepped away I'd rather him then a debt strapped new owner who might not be so patient. Economy might turn south and new owner might not be so able.

Anyone spending $5 billion on this team won't be "debt strapped".

Also, Dolan still has yes men like Steve Mills running his franchise so even his decisions in "stepping away" are awful.

5 billion, does that include the Rangers and MSG?
Mills is not a yes man if Dolan is not asking him to do things. I'll take the mans word that he is not making them get stars and sell tickets.
Dolan is a lot of things, but he seems to hold up a promise when he makes it. Problem has been stupidity.

Knicks owner James Dolan would consider selling the team for 'bona fide offer'

1) The NBA does not like "ownership groups" They tried that in Atlanta in the past and the current Bucks situation is a mess. They prefer just one guy and not one guy near death with a ****ty set of options with succession in place. Ownership in pro sports is an exclusive club, they just don't pick anyone, they pick people who they think will fit into the "In Group" After Mark Cuban , they simply got more selective besides young money. Young being relative. Eliminating options the NBA doesn't want and eliminating group situations like the Bucks, it's a narrow field

2) If the Knicks sell for 5 billion, they will get the top pick in the draft lottery at least twice. Maybe not immediately, but within the next 5 years. The league administration wants teams selling for record prices to do very well, to entice future prospective buyer to keep bidding up. Since record prices raise the valuation of all teams, the other owners go along with it.

3) Many interests in the league are split on Oprah Winfrey. Some want her in the league ownership group badly ( She will spike attendance and ratings on her own) Many will cite she will turn it all into a huge mess (Everything has to be about her, all the time, and they can't shut her up) She is the most marketable choice and the most volatile. Also she has no pure line of succession on place anyone can rely on. If she wanted a seat at the NBA table, odds are she would have to get married, the major brands won't like that aspect of it. The league doesn't want the risk, even very very small to impossible, of some random marrying into the ownership group by default. You aren't just vetting the person, but their immediate family as well.

4) Knicks ownership is the pathway under which Dolan gets the clout to push his Sureshot band. Which has no business getting the kind of exposure that it does right now. I suspect he'd be loathe to give it up. Rumors are he made moves to keep Hell On Wheels on the air via backchannels, when it faced multiple cancellation timelines, because the show featured a few of his songs. He also sold out to many CAA directed interests for the team to help get his band more exposure.

Its all cool stuff... but 5 billions are also cool...

As much as that sounds tempting if Knick fans were able to raise that we should probably put the money towards something worthwhile.i would pay 50 to dump his ass though

I think he is... he's not frugal and seems to have a soft spot for many players and giving them 2nd chances... however, he quieted Marv Albert and many broadcasters that were critical of the Knicks poor records. He gets into petty squabbles with Oakley and other celebrities - unless they say good things about the Knicks. Honesty and accountability start from the top - love how Popovich tells the truth - even when his team players terribly. Dolan should be saying the truth to fans and acknowledging the reality that we've sucked for the most part of the last 20 years. Good that he's stayed out of b-ball affairs but he should take his sobriety steps seriously and be honest and transparent.

The problem with an owner thats willing to pay any amount of $$$ though is that you get people like Isiah Thomas running the team, which leads to the occurrences of the Larry Browns, the Jerome James', the Eddy Curry's, the Starburys, the Get-In-The-TruckBurys, the Bargnanis, the Steve Francis', the Anucha Browne Sanders, the Phil Jacksons, the Derek Fishers, etc which hurts the reputation of the franchise in the long run and also...those people I mentioned use it as a stepping stone to milk Dolan for nothing and get to where they really want to get to.

I said we would never win a championship unless Dolan was more involve, and NOLAD put that as his signature as if he was making fun of my comment, because he obviously looks at everything from the surface..

After reading this entire article i was 1000% right and here is why

On spinning off the Knicks and Rangers into a company separate from his entertainment properties, fueling speculation Dolan might sell the teams: "The teams are very valuable assets, and they get more valuable every year. I think that will continue to go on. But as a business, you're not killing anybody with your growth. It's single-digit growth. There's really not any way to get it to go beyond that. ... But it's still a good asset. It's better than putting your money in the bank. ... I can tell you that nobody in my family wants to sell the Knicks and Rangers. It's not just my dad. It's the whole family. It's my [five] brothers and sisters. They like being owners ... and they just have no appetite for running the team. That's a different animal. I don't have any appetite for running the team, either one of them. That's not my expertise."

As long as this team makes me MONEY i could give 2 shts. The spoiled rotten family just want the title as OWNERS, did you read that.

In the entire article he failed to mention anything about a genuine love for the franchise, or the sport.

I was searching to get out of the job. ... I wasn't the general manager, and I wasn't the president. I was the guy still in the position I'm in now. I was still approving deals, and I got more involved than I certainly am now. But the more you get involved, you start to learn what you don't know. I became convinced that I didn't think I could add anything to it, and so when the opportunity to bring Phil came in, I was like, 'Perfect.'"

If you don'T know much about the business your in, how the hell can you hire the right person to run your business, they can sell you any pipe dream, and that's exactly why he hired Phil (who had no fckng experience) and Mills(who also had no fckng experience other than marketing and finance).

Mills was not about to take a back sit to anyone after phil, and convince his good friend (Like IT did) to give him the job.

Instead of hiring a real basketball president with a proven track record, he again chose his friend.

So we got a owner (with a fcked up track record) A president (with a fckd up track record) trying to prove himself, A GM (with a fcked up track record) for his job in orlando, who acquired players (mudiay, mario, trey, Noah, who all have suspect track records)and I like all of them, in different roles then they are now.

Wow

On his vision of a Knicks championship parade: "I don't have a vision of a Knicks parade. ... I always [said] I wouldn't go on the parade because I didn't win the championship, the players did. I don't relish the spotlight with being the owner of the team. If we did a parade, I don't know if I'd go on the parade. I don't think I would."

This is sad on so many levels

I took some time to read the whole article. Rather lengthy. Good of Jim to finally grant someone such an interview. I thought it was rather balanced. His career is uneven which goes without saying but he does have a few notches in his belt he can stand on.
