This off-season has gotten wack.....we're talking about the Nets and the Celtics for the love of God....

Well lets start a debate....
Who do you think was the best point guard ever to go pro? Don't say Jason Kidd just because he is the safe pick.....I'm talking about that guy that you saw that you just said "man that guy just know how to play his position."

Leave your drunk loser uncle that played Pro Am tournaments back in the 50's out of the convo, ok!!!!

I always liked Rod Strickland.....I just thought he knew how to run a team. He was never super fast but he just knew how to do what he had to do. He always keeps his dribble and he makes great decisions on the fast break.

He also had a nack for scoring on the drive. He would show the ball then switch hands or double clutch and get the and one.

That's my vote fellas Rod Strickland.

Tony Parker

Best to go pro? If your talking college ball, its Phil Ford and Bobby Hurley. Bobby led a team to 3 final fours, winning 2. He got the job done and was the leader.

Pro guard? By era

Bob Cousey
Nate "Tiny" Archibald (lead the league in assists and scoring one year. Thing about it!)
Walt "clyde" Frazier (he was the man.)
Magic Johnson (redefined the position, was a true leader)
Isiah Thomas. Won two rings by figuring it out! Lead his INdiana team to crown also!
John Stockton led in assists and steals about every year. Great leader.

These guys come to mind because watching them they controlled the pace of the game and was the floor quarterback. THey were the best in their era.

you can make a case for Magic being the best player of all time, so I guess you can say that he is the best PG, truly a unique individual that cannot be compared to any other player in the history of the nBA.

Ok....

Who would you pick if you were running a team? I still would pick Rod....I think Rod's game is the way I see basketball in my head....

I agree with you on this Briggs, maybe for the first time ever perhaps. I always say to people that arguably Magic is the best player of all time. Also Oscar Roberston. The man averaged a tripple double for God's sake! Isiah was always one of my favorites as well.

My vote goes to Erving "Magic" Johnson

Magic. It's not even close. Arguing it is like arguing MJ wasn't the best 2 of all time.

More room for dispute at 3, 4 and 5. I'd choose Oscar, Tim Duncan, Bill Russell.

Not sure what you're getting at w/ Strickland. Nice player, but not even in the top 25 PG's of all time. Am I missing what the criteria are?

I'm not sure how you put Oscar at the 3, he was a guard all the way. Personally I rank the all-time PG's this way:

1. Oscar
2. Magic
3. West (every bit as much of a playmaker as a scorer)
4. Cousy
5. Frazier

Na my vote goes to Shandon Anderson...he may not play PG persay, but his ball handling is just on another level.

And to thow an actual answer to this thing, Mark Jackson.

Eisley was able to put up 30 or 40 pts on teams at will

you guys are maniacs....

I'm not neccisarily saying the greatest point guard ever but really just your favorite.....

like who did you like the best...style of play, etc....

Magic was the greatest, Oscar had the triple doubles and Frazier was the best defender, etc.....that's a given.....

I just wanna know who you guys liked growing up besides the obvious....

Rod Strickland was my favorite of all time, then Terry Porter and maybe Kevin Johnson and Tiny Archbald....

Hey, let's look at tha match up...

Big O vrs Jordan: I think Jordan will take this, he's tha greatest ever. 0-1

Jordan vrs Miller: "I think Jordan will take this, he's tha greatest ever. 1-1

Magic vrs Barkley: Good Match up, but I say Barkley because he's on my team. Lol, just kidding. Clearly Magic is a team player, but when u play any of the F-C positions, defense becomes a one on one game. Barkley would destroy Magic down low, and no one would be able to help him out or you will leave Jordan,
Ewing, Miller or Shaq open. 1-2

Ewing vrs Malone: It depends on which Malone. Karl Malone will get destroyed by Ewing, but I don't think Ewing would be able to handle Moses Malone. 2-2 or 1-3

Chamberlin vrs. Shaq: Both Dominant Centers. Shaq at 330 is too dominant, but he has been abused by the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon (nothing wrong with that cuz Hakeem was nice). I have to say even because Shaq doesn't defend well against decent centers. He struggles against Yao. 3-3 or 2-3.

Depending on the Ewing vrs Malone matchup, we come out even or I come out ahead . Lol. Feel free to draw up ur own conclusions.

How about:
PG: Magic
SG: MJ
SF: Bird
PF: Duncan
C: Mutumbo in prime

Nobody scores on that team, and the pecking order is obvious when they have the ball (MJ, Bird, Duncan, Magic).

All right, here's who I liked growing up besides the obvious - Hal Greer and Earl Monroe. Neither were pure points but they really had fewer pure points back then, a lot more hybrid guards. These 2 were unbelievable players.

Cousy is not even top 15 all time i refuse to include a man that doesn't know how to dribble with both hands

If you want to make the case about his era thats fine, but this so called showmenship that he was famous for was really robotic, when you look at the tapes....

Gotta disagree with you. Guy averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 assists for his career, was 1st team all-NBA 10 straight seasons, won 6 championships. Go check out what Bill Russell says about him as a player. He was the real deal, grainy old black-and-white clips or not.

my rotation has Magic Johnson playing as a Point forward...since there's no way you could have Charles Barkley guarding Magic on the perimeter, you would have to match up either Jordan or Miller on Magic on D...that means you have Barkley covering either Jordan (LOL!) or Oscar Robertson on the wing...Patrick Ewing cannot guard Karl Malone on the high post or on the break either, & Wilt Chamberlain would be unstoppable down low if single teamed by Shaq...if you chose to double him w/Ewing & Shaq, that would leave Malone wide open from midrange, where he has always been deadly w/the midrange jumpshot as well.

my team just poses too many matchup problems for your team to handle bud.
