Beasley is an idiot. His favorite girlfriend "Mary Jane" is a problem as well.

He's trying now because he wants a contract. Which is why you need to keep a dolt like him on the edge, i.e. always playing for his next contract. He's producing because he's getting volume, but on a winning team, he's a liability. Which is why he was available in the first place.

He's prone to be lazy ( when he's not fighting to stay in the NBA or try to fool a team into being dumb enough to give him a long term deal) and just makes really bad decisions on the court ( Because he's not working on his game)

He loves being an NBA player. (Lifestyle) But does not love playing in the NBA (Disciple of the game). Happens all the time. You just don't give out an engagement ring after one good blowjob.

Briggs, at some point, you are going to turn into The George Constanza Principle. I.E. whatever you think the Knicks should do, they should actually do the opposite.

In defense of Briggs - the subject was posed as a speculative inquiry. The second phrasing requires that the condition precedent be addressed prior to and as a condition to answering the second. Just sayin.

I am hoping to give Beasley a 1 year deal on a large increase. I would consider a 2 year deal, but i want to avoid long term. Beasley is a good player. It's just important to know what he is, and not expect more.

He was playing like this lAst year with Milwaukee when I said we should consider giving him an mle. If he stays healthy and produces the way he has-- he's getting 4-40 at a minimum.

You tend to forget, like you did with Kanter, that the market matters. Let me ask you this: If he was doing the same thing for Milwaukee last season, than why did he only get the minimum salary for 1 year with us? What makes you think that one of the few teams with cap space will offer him a contract above the MLE when less teams have cap space this summer than last, and last summer he couldn't get anything above the minimum? Briggs, this is just common sense stuff. He should get paid more than the minimum, but getting 4-40 minimum? From who? Same with Kanter, he's not getting near max money just because he wants it, like you suggested.

He got hurt last year at one point and missed a bunch of games. If he puts up 20-8 most nights 50% he s going to get a very good contract. Hes played very well--hes just good

He's very good in his limited role. He's not a starter or even 6th man for most teams so a contract like that seems very steep. But all it takes is one so I guess you never know.

I love Beasley but his rep is not going to get him 4 years 40 mill... he's going to get a minimum deal, low level or the most mid level exemption... and for 2 years not 4. His rep doesn't hasn't him that respect. Now teams could offer more because they all are stupid. Not one NBA contract is calculated nowadays with any foresight

What has his rep been so far this year?

No complaining about coming off the bench.
No TMZ videos/pics of him in the clubs before/after games
No failed drug tests
No complaints from teammates or coach
No bad press.........all this while putting up some impressive offense numbers. I don't know, man. I think the guy is working his way into a big contract next year.

I agree. I hope the Knicks view this 200 or 300 min stretch of good play in the context of his 12,000+ min career. I definitely wouldn't give more than a few min a year.

Guys in this forum don't even want to see him coming off the bench because of his past. He's having a career year yet guys still calling out his defense and IQ... in my mind he's worth 4-40... but the stigma surrounding Beas probably won't get him that money

No idea if we can or have the room, but I would give him $10m with a team option for year 2. That is assuming he continues the production we've seen of late.

He is doing the right things this year, it does not cancel out the past. Both are true not either or.

I think one thing is for sure, even though we shouldn't pay him 4-40, he has still become a priority. He's a nice spark and insurance policy for the games Porzingis misses. He's much tougher to replace than someone like McDermott. I expect Kanter to opt in and us to be relatively quiet this offseason, as 2019 seems like the opportunity to make a big splash in free agency. Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Kris Middleton, etc. Only Hardaway, Lee, and Noah will be the big contracts on the books. KP's potential extension won't kick in yet. So i think we go big. But Beasley is a priority on a short term contract for sure.

if he wants to come back for 2-20 great. $9mm next year and $11mm the year after that. Otherwise best of luck

If we could resign Beasley on a two year deal for say $7-$9 mil per year, then you have to do it. If he wants a bigger commitment, I would probably look somewhere else. He is a classic example of playing well for a new contract type. He has never played this disciplined on offense or defense so unless he had an epiphany, he is just playing for a new deal. You have to factor that in and I would not sign him for more than two years.

I am hoping he is playing this way because he is happy in NY and has matured. He seems to be very happy in his role here. He knows that doing what he's doing in NY is better than doing it someplace else.

You guys are NUTS. Beasley has not gotten a more than minimum contract for 5 years straight and you suddenly want to give him a more than 1 year deal? And some starting at $10M?!?!?!

Beasley is the type of guy you add on to your roster AFTER all your other needs and guys are taken care of.

For me, $5M with a team option for the second year at the same rate. Otherwise the Knicks should be hunting for a player who could fill the same offensive role off the bench that is in his early 20's and actually is interested in giving full effort all the time and who could grow with the current crew.

If he asks for more, thank him for his play and move on.

This isn't even a career year, tho. He's pretty much doing what he always does and that still hasn't gotten the long-term deal. I don't think we have to worry about bringing him back at a reasonable price.
