I love Ron, but isn't that around the mid-level? Why do we always outbid ourselves on contracts?

Maybe this means they are clearing cap in the Melo deal. It could also mean they are running with Ron, Frank and possibly a guy they get in the Melo deal.

I think mostly it means they just resigned Baker and wanted to let everyone know.

this is good. Early bird right ensure we have some control, and this is a nice low level pay day for a guy who's shown he's going to work his butt off. Unless we sign a guy like Rondo, Baker is my default starter who holds the job until someone outplays him there. If Baker could hit the 3 he would be a nice guy in the rotation.

They used the room exception .. definitely an overpay but another way to look at it is by doing this they avoided being poisin pilled on a 4 year contract with major escalations in years 3 and 4 .. since Ron is a Gilbert Arenas free agent

Thanks, but I was thinking in the 2 yrs, 4 mill dollar range for him. He played well last year but he did go undrafted and was on a bad team. I hope I'm wrong and he outplays the value of the contract.

This sound about right

26% 3pt shooting
37% fg shooting

Gets you 9 million dollars

I find this a good thing. No chance of Rose. I wouldn't mind Rondo on a 1 year, but he's a big risk anyway.

Baker, FrankN will get lots of playing time.

Good defensive #s but horrible offensive #s. I'm OK with it if they think he's going to significantly improve. It's a C.

One thing we do know is that some in the organization believe Baker is worth keeping.

Wonder if he's shown them anything new in off-season workouts?

Glad we kept him...

He played good defense and the team was better with him than Rose on the floor. But you're right that he can't shoot.

Also, in comparison, Shelvin Mack--a proven veteran backup pg--got 2 yrs 12 million.

Why do we always assume if we don't know the market price for guys via media, we just assume we are bidding on ourselves?
Was THjr deal negotiated and was he getting other offers? I don't know if he was or was not. I did not read of any. Am I to assume this did not happen?
If I pepetuate this on a thread, and others take that, and think it so, then it becomes fact?
What if there were other teams calling Bakers agent and telling them they would give him this kind of money?
Need we assume EVERY DEAL KNICKS DO IS OVER PRICED???

you are tiring, and boring. Those numbers are cherry picking of the easiest variety. Draymond Green shot worse in his rookie year.

Did the Knicks overpay? Perhaps. They got a guy who plays stout D and makes the right plays, especially for a guy who played SG in college, hard to move to PG and not look silly.

You're right. We don't know what other teams were interested in him and what they were willing to pay.

However, this is what I do know: 1) He was an undrafted free agent 2) He played on a bad/lottery team 3) His shooting percentages weren't great

Now, don't get me wrong...I love Ron and am glad he's still on the team! I think he has potential to be a quality bench player in the league: tough, smart, tenacious defender, and can shoot better then he's shown, but I don't like the idea of shelling out contracts that are above market value. That's bad business anywhere.
