It's early. We haven't seen Frank play.

But I like what I am seeing from him in their first game - on now.

I know its summer league, but he is playing in control, looks like he will be a real PG.

Thank you Phil!

Maybe but it will be interesting to see how he does compared to Frank. Hopefully, they both live up to their billing and surpass expectations. Another regret is not going after Yogi. He was there for the taking but the Knicks chose Baker and Randle.

Nah. He cant play the Triangle rememeber? Why would we need an athletic play maker on the team that seems to have a great talent to get buckets? Cant wait to watch Malik. I am sure he will make me feel better.

Btw, Lauri looked good as well. KP like...except he cuts to the basket.

I will reserve judgment until I see Frank play. By the end of the season, we should have a decent idea of whether frank has the same potential.

I'm not saying you're wrong, DSJr is the guy I would've taken, but let's not start saying anything based off of Summer League.
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

All due respect I'm so tired of hearing this about Smith. From the media, from fans....look bottom line, if we took Smith all these same people pining for us to take him would have been belly aching over the fact that we took a dude that already had a lot surgery, how it is the "Knicks thing to do" take a guy with a bad injury history, how the French guy is perfectly healthy and only 18 and can possibly be the guard version of Giannis....

Since Phil got fired, Michael Kay has been crying that Phil should have been fired before the draft (I agree), but he goes on to say if Phil got fired HE PERSONALLY believes the Knicks wouldn't have drafted the Frank. Last Thursday/Friday he was talking and said someone with the KNICKS told him Mills would have drafted Frank. And he proceeded to disagree and say no way that happens like it is a certainty.

Two weeks ago, he was defending the catcher for the Yankees because people botched he didn't run out to first and defended as Gospel when Torre said he didn't run it out because Torre told him not to because he was nursing a leg injury. Callers would call in and all Kay would say is "Well Torre said this is why" and that was it.

And I like Kay.

Double standard at it's finest. I'm so tired of this grass is always greener attitude when we all know people would bitch the exact same way no matter WHO was drafted. Difference of opinion is fine. But to talk like it is a certainty is....frustrating.

If you fire phil a few weeks before the draft and Mills is left in charge, or course he would take Frank...phil and Mills were a team up until that point and had been scouting him for a while. Now, if the front office was wiped out and a new regime was brought in weeks before the draft, there's a good chance Frank is not picked...

We may, who knows. All I know is Dallas wanted Ntlikina and wanted him bad enough to hire his coach. You can call this a two gold strategy by the Mavs. If they get Ntlikina it worked if they don't they can say it was planned to make the Knicks want him. Any who on time can decide who got the better player remember one thing though the right player is the one who wins more not necessarily stats.

Not the point. I am sure new management picks their guy. But I am talking about the double standard one organization is gospel the other you defend to the hilt the opposite of what your told. Because of what? The organization is run like ****? Dude a source that told him something that he felt comfortable reporting on, and he as a reporter dismisses it.

We need to give the kid a break. He would be starting college as a freshman later this year if he played here.

While it doesn't happen in sports so often, it's entirely possible this could end up a win/win/win/win scenario. I.E. the Mavericks will win out, getting the player they need, Smith might end up in a situation best for him. Knicks might get the specific player that suits their current needs ( defense, a combo guard for Hornacek) and Ntilikina might thrive here better than the other options at #8.

49ers traded Joe Montana to the KC Chiefs for a first round pick. That pick ended up being IIRC Dana Stubblefield ( i.e. a future DPOY) who helped the Niners win the ring in 94. Steve Young got to stretch his wings and be the future HOF player, Montana got to extend his career and had a nice swan song with the Chiefs.

Smith has the talent from the neck down to have been the potential top pick in this draft. From the neck up, the kid is basically an idiot. That's what scared teams off. Hell, it even scared AGENTS off. Consider that. Most of these agents are used to cleaning up after rapes, theft, felonies, assault, gambling, even murder in some cases. ( Hello Marvin Harrison....) And the top and mid tier ones just said Screw It to Smith Jr. Think about that. Someone up the food chain of agents took a chance on a freak show like Johnny Manziel but no one wanted to roll hard on Smith Jr.

Roy Tarpley had all the natural talent in the world. But he can't help you if he's face first in a bowl of cocaine, can he?

Smith is getting a ton of press now. Partly because Cuban is a different media animal than most of the other owners in sports. The other part is the agency who took Smith on has no one else, they have to do everything they can to keep propping him up for their own "cred" in the agent world for future signings.

I have always, here, equated player acquisition in the NBA to akin to a "marriage" It needs to be a true partnership to succeed. Character matters. Trust matters. Smith Jr is like some busted out Tinder chick. Got swiped right a lot. Sure, you can marry a chick who got rode hard by 83 guys in the last three years. Maybe when she wipes all that nut off of her face, she can repent and turn the other cheek and be faithful and kind and amazing and generous and supportive of you. Maybe. But what are the odds? The odds are, she just wants a safe landing spot with a house and a guy with a pension so she can keep blowing guys in a 7/11 bathroom while hopped up on coke.

The REGRET should all belong to Smith Jr. He acted like a careless "whore" So no team wanted to "marry him" Only a team with fewer options and had to wait until all the more stable chicks got swooped up. You think you have a better chance of marrying a "solid girl" at a bookstore? Or a bar? Smith wanted to act like a barhopping slut, so he got treated like one.

If Smith Jr ends up a long time All Star in this league, then it was the magical rare case of a housewife being found deep down in a whore. That's a pretty amazing story. It's amazing because it doesn't happen very often. Ntilikina might not pan out. Then again, he's not wiping jizz off his face waiting for the next Tinder Thunderc*ck bro to show up and take that @ss on a first class trip to Pound Town.

I'd rather the Knicks bet on the chick from the bookstore ( Ntilikina)

Whores can be fun. Until you have to live with them. And that's why no one will deep down feel all that horrible if Smith Jr magically becomes something he's never previous proven to be.

Back in the day when I was into fantasy hoops I just to study the summer results to pick up a sleeper for my roster. There was this dude named Austin Daye, a mid first round pick who lit up the summer league. I picked him up and he didn't do jack when the games matter. Next season he did the same thing and I picked him up again thinking this could be the year he blows up, nada. Austin Daye, in spite of his summer league exploits, was pretty much garbage in the NBA.

My point to this story is calm down. Starting threads about regrets after one summer league game is typical Knick fan over reaction. We haven't even seen our guy play yet and we put this out there already after one game?

I am still sticking to my prediction, Smith will be another OJ Mayo-type player. He may put up numbers, doesn't mean he going to contribute to winning.

I wanted Smith Jr. to get drafted as well. All I believe Frank has to do to win over the NY fans is to do a good job of setting up his teammates and taking those opportunities to get to the rim. The rest should follow.

Don't believe fans will be dissapointed if Ntlikina can do those two things right out of the gate. Confident he will be a good defender, and most rookies need time to put up good shooting percentages.

We may regret passing on Dennis Smith Jr
