Even if its a lie. It puts pressure on Portland that we have other avenues to acquire a first rounder.

12 is pretty high for Lee. He did play for SVG.

I dont believe we can land pick 11-16 for Lee alone. Would have to take back a bad contract. 17-20+ sounds more plausible. But even then who has the cap space for him out right for a pick.

Agreed....but if its true, we have to take this deal. I hate when these potential deals are leaked like this...Most of these deals are finalized behind the scenes not in the media...

Yup... A team has to have a real crush on someone like a Lee to give up a pick that high in a supposedly deep draft...They also believe that Lee is some kind of missing piece.

If we are in a rebuilding mode this would be a great trade, though, and Detroit gets a solid performer on a good contract.

Bro, I'm still pushing Portland for a pick, even if we do get that 12th pick (which would be huge).

I'd still do it and would even go as far as to eat Reggie Jackson's contract. Dude, by all accounts, is a cancer and I think they might be desperate enough to get him off the team to do it.

Coaches tend to prefer two way vets than middle-ish 1st round rookies- remember JVG had their top 8 pick (I think it was Rudy Gay, who at the time was considered a very promising pick)for Shane Battier. I suspect SVG is cut from the same cloth.

I like your style! So who would you pick with:

8th pick
12th pick
15th pick

Stan Van Gundy the coach would like a ready now player

Stan Van Gundy the personnel guy and decision maker would like the guy with the most overall utility and upside potential.

If the Knicks had the 12th pick, would anyone here want them to trade it for Courtney Lee?

Then why would the Pistons?

Trade rumors like this usually operate from the team on the non leverage side ( the Knicks) trying to create a new market for a player they want to trade. So another team will say "I'm getting a player that could have been traded for the 12th pick and it only cost me the 26th pick, I got a bargain!" Except the reality is the team making the trade was the only option in the first place.

It's limited gamesmanship built off of due diligence. The Knicks have to put this out there, even if they know the market for Courtney Lee can't be manipulated in their favor by doing this.

Great for the Knicks. Terrible for Detroit. It doesn't seem plausible. Spend six times as much on a guy who's just a shooting specialist? Teams aren't looking to get rid of lottery picks unless it's for something special.

Triple threat according to you no team can ever make a trade. You've been consistently wrong gauging what teams will or will not take. I tend to think this is possible. Charlotte traded for bellineli for the 22 pick last year and Lee IMHO is the superior player and Detroit does not have a signed two guard at the moment They might not want to pay an under whelming kcp 20 mm

And the beauty is that getting ready of Courtney Lee's contract would give us the additional cap space necessary to acquire the Blazers largest contracts. From our mouths to Phils ears!

But I'd look to package the 8th and 12th pick to the Sixers for the 3rd pick to select Josh Jackson. At 15th, I'd take Donovan Mitchell. My roster heading into next season would look like...

STARTERS
PG: Austin Rivers
SG: Allen Crabbe
SF: Evan Turner
PF: Kristaps Porzingis
C: Willy Hernangomez

ROTATION
G: Donovan Mitchell
G: Ron Baker
G: Jamal Crawford
F: Josh Jackson
F: Juan Hernangomez (Kyle O'Quinn, Mindaugas Kuzminskaus and $3 million cash)
C: Joakim Noah

FUTURE ASSETS
2019 1st round pick swap (via LAC)
2020 1st round pick swap (via LAC)

Here is a trade scenario I made based on all the rumors of people out there looking to trade. Keep in mind Derick Rose is just a placeholder for Cap space. He wouldn't actually be part of the deal. posted it in another thread but I figure its relevant here too.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yd2slaj2

Basically Send Lee to Detroit for Pick #12, Stanley Johnson, and Aron Bynes
Then Absorb Harkless's contract for pick #20 and to make it easier on them send them Stanley Johnson to replace him (He was drafted pick #8 a few years ago)
Finally combine Mo Harkless, Pick #12, and Pick #20 and trade that to the Wolves for Ricky Rubio and #7.

Detroit gets a vet, removes a player who is beefing with management, and clears some cap space by moving Bynes. Which is good for them because they need to match KCP's offers

Pistons clear enough cap space to get under the luxury tax, keep their best pick (pick #15) and receive a wing player who could potentially replace Harkless in Johnson

Wolves move on from Rubio, get a better defender SF in Harkless, and pick #12 and #20 for Rubio and pick #7 which they are rumored to want to trade back on from.

Knicks get Rubio, a 1 year deal on Bynes, and will now have 2 mid lottery picks to choose with (pick #7 and pick #8)

Also before people come in and say Pick #12 and pick #20 aren't worth pick #7. It would literally be the best move down combination available based on current draft order. Unless somebody else made some moves no one could offer a better collection of later picks for pick #7. Also we would be sending them a 24 year old 2 way wing in Harkless. Also Detroit said they ant a vet for pick #12 and Stanley Johns avg 4.4 pg, 1.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds. I don't think they would cry foul in trading him.

The algorithm gives and the algorithm takes away

Lee had a good overall season, but if there is to be a youth movement, the starting lineup needs to get younger. Moving Lee would allow Phil the option of drafting an SG and not creating a log jam if Holiday comes back.

That would be a much better trade for us then it would be for Detroit. I like C.Lee and what he did for us last year and wouldn't even mind keeping him if we don't add a legit SG in free agency or the draft but I don't see us getting a lottery pick for him.
