So Knicks give up: Melo, KOQ; GET: Turner (17M, 18M, 18.5M in 2017 to 2019 seasons), #20, #26 in 2017 and LAC 2021 pick.

Don't know if the numbers all work out but it's interesting?

Also, not sure Portland gets enough back for two first round picks and Evan Turner. The first round picks would be highly valuable to them as cost controlled young players with their cap issues. You could make the argument that the first round picks are the two most valuable pieces in this trade.

And I don't think think there is any way in hell the Knicks walk out of a Melo trade with three first round picks overall if we're counting that LAC 2021 pick.

But if the picks situations was more realistic, it's not a bad framework. Maybe Portland gives one pick, ideally the Memphis pick.

Turner would be the best guard on our team... for better or for worse. At least his contract would sync up with Noah's and CLee's, when the team might actually be ready to make a FA splash in three years.

I mean if phil said he wants bona fide starter, this is not even worth entertaining, TURNUr is absolutely garbage, 18 million for 1 extra yr after melo's contract for 9ppg 42% shooting 26% from 3, 3rbs, 3 asst..hellllllllllllllll no

Crabbe was one of the biggest frauds from last off season. His contract is just as bad if not worse considering his production

Yeah, but at least he's younger and there's a slither of hope he might improve. Turner has been in the league long enough and he's had one good season. I want Melo to be happy, but not if it means this. I'd rather just sign off on River and Crawford or whoever

2 extra first round picks in a draft that is supposed to be DEEP.

Turner is not a good shooter but he is a ball mover and defender, and quite frankly, he is not Melo.

$50M to get rid of Turner who is a duplicate player (although admittedly I don't pay attention to POR).

2 guards that play a ton: Lillard, McCollum. Another guard: Crabbe. Harkless, Aminu at SF.

I'd be willing to throw in the 2 second rounds NY has this year to POR.

Yeah, getting rid of Turner helps them. But they also have to take back Rivers and Crawford two more guards who make almost as much combined as Turner.

Turner $53 guaranteed over 3yr, Crawford and Rivers $41M guaranteed over two years. Crawford's second year is only guaranteed for $3M, not the full $14.5M, but if they pay him his full $14.5M in the second year, Crawford and Rivers combine to cost $52M over two years... so I'm not clear how this actually clears $50M in cap space for them...? Unless I'm missing something? It clears Turner's deal off the books a year early, and you can make a strong argument that Rivers and Crawford help them more on the court than Turner, but as you said, they're stocked at the guards...

Also, I believe they have 15 or 16 players under contract right now for next, so getting back 3 players doesn't really help them - they'll have to waive a lot of guys.

I could see them giving up one pick, but they'd have to send out two more players in this deal for it to work with their roster.

I do think the overall concept makes sense and could be tweaked to work - I just can't see them sending out two first round picks.

Would certainly fit the rebuild model. Even though Turner is not worth the 18M per. It fits with Noah's and Lee's expiring contracts. Like Turner's game in Boston but remember thinking Portland over paid. But not the worst addition. Having this many picks in one year would be a true rebuild move. And if the Clips dont win in the next couple of years, they will go the rebuild route by 2020. Like it.

You just hit it on the head cause the those two first round picks and even the 2021 from the Clips are what we need for our rebuild. Don't love Turner's contract but he can bring value to our team with his defense and he does have offense that he showed more of in Boston but i think when you play with two offensive guards like Lilliard and McCollum it's hard to get your own offense going. It's really all about the 1st round picks though.
