Can Riley and Spolestra see his inclusion as beneficial to their team? They have tyler Johnson, Winslow, and a mid first round pick in a deep draft. Should net two of those assets for Melo.

But Devin Booker would definitely have looked nice in a Knicks jersey back in 2015 with that pick!

Don't know if you've noticed but Miami has become a team that plays hard nose defense and have been winning games because of their defense so Melo and Miami don't match up. They wouldn't want him especially with having Pat "the rat" Riley there and with him knowing they will attract top free agents without having to do much cause they play in Miami and the no state taxes is a beautiful thing to a lot of these free agents.

IF, and it's a huge IF, but if Melo was willing to waive his NTC for Miami, then the Chris Bosh situation becomes very very interesting.

I didn't run the hard numbers, but with the trade kicker, Bosh's salary and probably Josh McRoberts, whom the Heat want to dump, might do it in terms of close salary matching.

Chris Bosh's salary will likely clear off of a teams books when he's not medically cleared to play again. Insurance will cover up to 80 percent of his remaining total salary. "Up to" is a sort of fuzzy term though in this case.

Basically any team who trades for Bosh, if they can predict he will never be medically cleared ever again, can apply for salary cap relief, in which case Bosh's entire salary washes off the books. Operationally, he's like a giant expiring contract. However that's the "cap hit" issue, the "cash hit" issue is that Bosh will still be guaranteed all that money, the difference could be up to 30 million, depending on how the insurance works out.

What a potential trade would break down into is, how many assets would Miami give to save up to 30+ million simply in cash. I don't think Tyler Johnson would be part of that mix or deal, but future draft assets might be in play.

I don't see a trade with Miami happening, BUT the Chris Bosh situation operates as a pretty interesting subtext here.

Melo is a power forward

He wants to go to contender where his branding is still viable and he gets all his money. Contenders have ball dominant players already. As Charles Barkley says, "Well...there is only one ball...so that's gonna be a problem"

The only viable deal where I can see Melo waiving his NTC for the Lakers is Melo and O'Quinn for Deng, Mozgov and Randle. There would have to be some other smaller moving parts, but the Lakers would probably want out from under those ugly veteran contracts and Randle would be replaced by a marketable player. Also the Buss family and Jackson have history, and that seems to matter ( i.e. Paxton and the Bull and the stupid Rose trade)

I think it's a horrible deal. I'd turn it down if I was the Knicks GM, but it's a deal I think the Lakers would want to do, and Melo would waive his NTC for, but it's just an ugly absorption of bad contracts.

How can you with a straight face tell any of us what Melo wants to do? He choose NYC over less money and winning scenarios. He choose to work with Phil and his vision. He was to buy into the triangle and use his powerful Rolodex to recruit.
Now he wants to put himself on a contender and only one city has the team but few assets to make it happen. Its obvious LA has advantages for melo. Given the make up of the lakers, I don't see a fit there. Clippers perhaps if Rivers and his owner are all in resigning CP3, Griff and bringing in Melo. Thats a lot of money. Im not sure its doable financially. If so, no bench. Need those to contend. They a bit thin there anyway. I have at least spelled out why Miami would make sense given the business ties La La has there, its an international city, sort of a gateway to latin america, His brands are strong with that demographic, and its not a bad team and one that can still be after a trade. Money aside, and thats a big if, I take Winslow and anything else. This keeps their basic team in place for now. I do want Johnson. We draft Issac and have a nice young team to grow with. With Dragic and Whiteside in their primes now, Melo gives them more punch than winslow, who was not even on this team most of the year. Riles won't win a chips with this team, but he'll make money and still keeps his pick and a future. Melo gets into the playoffs and some redemption there.

And its a long shot at best.
