“When Ron gets in there, he gets it to Carmelo and K. P. and makes the right play,” Hornacek said, referring to Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. “He’s a smart, heady guy. I don’t have to call plays when he has the ball. He’s smart enough to just do that.”
So is he calling plays when Rose and Jennings are in the game?
Is he the one telling rose to go iso?
what's going on here?

Here is a crazy idea. How about going with this starting 5.
C-KP PF-Melo SF-CLee SG-DRose PG-Baker
We get Baker distributing and playing good perimeter defense and Rose slashing at will. CLee would really thrive in his getting open 3 pt shots being guarded by a SF.
Have Noah, Willy and KOQ back up the 4 and 5 spot.
Have Kuz backup the 3 spot
Have Holiday backup the 2 and 3 spot
Have Jennings backup the 1 spot.

I don't think its a big deal. he wasn't taking shots at rose or Jennings IMO. However neither are traditional point guards so I get what he was trying to say but he wasn't saying it in a disrespectful way

Gotta say I really like you idea. I've been a proponent of going small with this roster and having Melo and KP at the 4n5 but I actually hadn't thought of this particular lineup. It looks very interesting based on the actual skills of the players we have. I wonder if Phil would let Jeff just do what he wants if he wanted to go with this or if he'd complain?

Ron Baker is a good player. That's what I get from this. If we're lucky, the kid will develop into a fixture in NY and he's apart of the new Kristaps era hopefully of winning basketball

Been saying this for a week. Time to develop players who can be back next season on a good contract. Rose and Jennings won't be worth what they will command, especially Rose. I could see Jennings willing to stay for Mid level money which would make him more attractive to keep.
Give Hernangomez, Kuz and Baker more time. Let them get experience playing with KP and Melo. Less time for Rose and players that likely aren't here next season.

To me it clear that Horny needs classical PG to make his hybrid system work. Phil with his pure triangular view at a time never brought pure PG into the roster. So Ron is the best we have. With all defensive issues this group has, you can replace Rose with star PG like Paul and we are instant contender. Replacing Rose/Jennings with average NBA starter/backup pure PG paring and we are a playoff team. Rose and Jennings are bringing no structure to the game so they are no good for any structural offense and by proxy to any successful defense. Many here have an illusion that veteran players like Rose or Melo can change their game. This is not possible. No one can make something from nothing. There are many high IQ players who changed their game to stay longer in NBA and be effective and useful but they did poses diversified skills to begin with. It is hard to find more one-dimensional players that Rose, Melo, and Jennings.

I think it was a racial sexist homophobic remark. OP likes to look for trouble. We can give him something to chew on:
"Rons midwest sensibilities prohibit from spending much time in the barber chair which in some communities be the hub for all that goes on. Its obvious from his hair style! With his penchant for monogamy, he is less likely to engage in a three way, or errant passes which cause turnovers. His only ambition for a three way is the Triangle offense. With a naive sense for the ball, he does not view Latvians as soft and in fact fears them. KP and Baker are not that close on the team!!! With Melo, Ron is quick to assert his preference for Wheat Check ( What else would a "SHOCKER" eat!!) and makes sure he does not approach Melo with Honey Nut Cheerio on his breath! He is cautious to not make crack jokes about Mexicans around Willy despite him being from Spain."

those dudes are going to be trade bait because the object is to win now while melo is still in his prime.. if were not a playoff team(and im talking 2nd rnd or better) that would mean rose didn't have much of an impact, and his stock won't be nearly as high.
Remember the knicks are a middle of the pack team, and most had us missing the playoffs, so how much do you think ppl rate rose, certainly no where near max $

Actually Jeff had NON Traditional PG's in PHX. He had success with scoring PG's. The thing is that Rose is probably even further away from PG than we probably need. Still that's not really a problem if you can have a kid like Baker in there to be a ball mover. That's what we did with Felton and Kidd.

Isiah is scoring PG but he is great passer too. But most importantly he can run NBA offense on very high level. He learned a lot under Jeff and this shows. We need young talent at PG to develop under Jeff. This should be a priority at draft time and on the FA market. And I doubt it will be wise to resign Rose and Jennings for that matter. Unless they will turn it around they showed nothing to do that. Rose doing a good job top show shining false gold to increase his trade value. Knicks should not miss on this opportunity.

I disagree about Rose. I think you can in fact make it work with a Scoring PG like Rose and as I pointed out above you do that by pairing him with a Passing SG. We have Felton and Kidd and that worked. Perhaps Rose and Baker would be a solution down the line. I'm curious to see how Jeff handles this. Sure we should look for a young PG but that is for after the season. For right now we need to maximize what we have.
